For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

banana
blueberries
carrot
humous
avocado
corn on the cob
salad leaves
tomatoes
cucumber
radishes

Probably about 9 portions.

I think I recognise your name Mayo, have you been on MN long? Oh, and well done on the list

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2009 19:44

I think mayor needs a sticker...where is our monitor?

DS is in bed but I think very far from sleep tonight

Apparently it will not fall below 19 deg tonight and his room is hooooooot

I redeemed myself and stir fried runner beans (worked really well), mange tout, corn, carrots and courgette for supper.

I hate iceberg lettuce, even with dressing. I will tolerate soft french type lettuce, but in the garden I only grow mixed leaves, like rocket, mizuna, mustard etc.

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2009 19:45

TooT is hot enough to be undressed, Id say

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2009 19:46

I meant

'TooT, it is'

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/06/2009 19:57

Freudian slip FK?

I currently have my skirt tucked into my knickers to keep cool. It is a good look!

MayorNaze · 29/06/2009 20:02

why nasally??!!

i have been around for YEARS, me, just under various guises...this is a fairly longlasting incarnation though

i would really like a sticker, usually i only get them from dd2 for having a really big poo

i am at work and we have air con there but i am wearing no shoes to keep extra cool...if i was home i may well be joining the ranks of the nekked gardeners...pheeew!

i like lettuce. tis an acquired taste i think. had to pull loads of mine up today though as it had gone all rotten underneath

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2009 20:14

I feel like I should know you...

Lemur that sounds like a great look

I was wearing shorts but have just got changed

MayorNaze · 29/06/2009 20:21

i don't think i have done anything of any mn significance...not under this guise anyway...

lulu knows i have been around for years, i have frequented the mn coffee shop and bar on occasion...

pointydog · 29/06/2009 20:32

lettuces do need a good dressing. I find that too. That's what makes it tasty. Well, much fat makes anything tasty really, doesn't it.

To add to all your wonderful lists, I've totted mine up to:

orange juice
sultannas
banana
carrots and sweetcorn
strawberries
olives
beetroot
leek and carrot soup (1.5 I'da thought)
tomatoes
red pepper and cucumber

10.5. And I've not had my evening piece of fruit yet.

Say gouranga!

Guadalupe · 29/06/2009 20:37

fat = flavour

"And I've not had my evening piece of fruit yet."

I don't know why that's funny but it is.

pointydog · 29/06/2009 20:40

I have such tedious routines with this fruit lark. It's the oinly way I can eat enough of it.

MayorNaze · 29/06/2009 20:43

i get in loads of fruit byt whizzing loads together in blender, topping up with milk and downing. i don't actually have a very sweet tooth and has taken me ages to bring ymself to eat fruit at all (always eaten loads of vegis though)

is easier to eat fruit n the summer though, no?

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 20:43

blimey you are all scoffing veg in a frenzy

peas

pointydog · 29/06/2009 20:50

I use my blender as little as possible because I hate washing it and so does dh.

But I appreciate the kindly giving-a-tip tone to your post, mayor

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 20:53

pointy you needed all the help you could get till about a week ago

OP posts:
pointydog · 29/06/2009 20:56

yes indeed. Although... I will do anything for fruit, but I won't do that.

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2009 20:57

I'm glad I'm not the only one who tends to refuse to use kitchen gadgets on the basis that they will need washing afterwards

pointydog · 29/06/2009 20:58

(I was referring to the Meatloaf song, by the way, in case my post sounded odd)

Yes, I don't like gadgets much

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 20:59

It was your idea FK

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 21:00

I like it Pointy. Although maybe we should make it lovage?

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 21:01
