For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Just checking in. Took Ds for a lovely swim today (not in a petri dish - is that what Guad calls it?) in a private pool with no other people and it was bliss. DS was a bit wary at first but loving it by the end.

Have also tested Guad's no-carb lunch method. Sort of by accident. I did the tuna and chick pea thing and had no bread so just had couple of oat cakes with it and rolled some up in lettuce leaves. Then all afternoon when I was thinking 'mmmm, what chocolatey treat can I have' I kept realising I wasn't hungry. So I didn't snack at all

cherries, plum, pear, nectarine, grapes, oj, raisins, lettuce, tomato, cuc, peas. Didn't have dinner at home, so dipped a little after a good start but still 8.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 22:16

oatcakes are carbs
[sceptical carb lover]

Sounds good Franny! Have a nice day. And 2 oatcakes are barely carbs compared to 2 slices of white hovis

By the way I've just discovered cheesy oatcakes

Have a great day TooT and Mits [wish I was there]

morning

You lot are doing amazingly well with your froot and vedge. I Must Do Better.

I no longer need my antiemetic meds and I am now permanently hungry. For haribo carbs. I think I need to stock up on dried fruity type snacks for my desk drawer.

How do you all dry your nappies? I have no tumble drier and no space in the house. I'm wondering if one of you clever ladies has a magic solution

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/06/2009 10:15

Franny, normal is overrated.

I really do believe the vast majority of people understand why people home ed their children. It may not be something they would choose to do, but they still understand why others do.

Hurrah TF! How wonderful.

Can't you dry your clothies on the line outside? There really are only a handful of days in the year when washing won't dry outside.

You can also get airers that are like a big triangle that go over the bath.

TigerFeet · 30/06/2009 10:41

my pov on home ed is that whilst I would never choose to do it myself I stand in awe of those that do. I'm too lazy not constitutionally equipped to be responsible for dd's education, she would end up illiterate and feral .

ATM clothes etc are dried outside or in the spare room, which will be the baby's room. The baby will be in with us in the early days when most nappies are used so could still be dried in the spare room if it's wet out... the airer over the bath is a great idea, I knew someone cleverer than me would be along with an obvious answer.

ahundredtimes · 30/06/2009 12:17

There is a woman here who home eds, and I often bump into her and her v. jolly and sunned and scruffy looking brood.

I feel for her. She always says something to me. Last time we met at the greengrocers and she said, 'we are looking at fruits from around the world, then we're going to look at the atlas' and I said 'what fun!'. Another time we were in the circus and she said, 'we are looking at symmetry in architecture' and I said, 'that's nice, how interesting.' Next time I'm going to say, 'look, really, it's fine, you don't need to explain!'

It must be exhausting for her explaining the finer points of her curriculum to everyone she meets in the street.

yesterday: 4 nectarines - that's right 4 before they got home and ate the rest, 2 bananas, strawberries, rocket, orange juice, loads of huge and lovely tomatoes with onion salad.

SuperBunny · 30/06/2009 16:52

I'm a 10.10 failure atm

Hope mits and toot have a good day.

Lovely to hear about tinypink in the pool and I laughed at ahundred's home edding family. Franny, I have given away DS's chinese outfit

Rhubarb · 30/06/2009 16:55

Um. Hello. I'm having a veggie bake today! With some vegetables and stuff. So does that mean I can be in your club?

Oh, and I'm a fruit.

pointydog · 30/06/2009 17:24

With a name like yours, who could refuse.

This week, we have discovered Fruitus bars (which I am sure som eof you have tried) and we are impressed. One portion of fruit in each bar (whooooooo, ladies, hold back!), very soft and tasty. And much much cheaper than those nakd bars which I saw on teh same shelf.

pointydog · 30/06/2009 17:26

Also on that same shelf, were health bars by Gillian McKeith . That is a one-woman trombone-tooting con-merchant and a half.

Just one of her miserable bars was an extortionate price, think it was about £1.60.

(About £1.50 for 5 fruitus)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/06/2009 17:40

Jesus Rhubarb. You could warn a girl about your profile picture - yikes!

Hello

Make sure you have read the OP and all of the links, don't ask if nuts and seeds count, and that should be enough to keep you from being thrown in the pit

TooTicky · 30/06/2009 17:51

Hello Rhubarb. I believe you live pretty near me...

Mits is fab. I starved her and walked her miles in the baking heat and still she smiled.
Banksy exhibition v good.

TooTicky · 30/06/2009 17:55

Dr Gillian McPoo has a new range of tinned organic beans which are curiously 2 or 3 times the price of other tinned organic beans.

SuperBunny · 30/06/2009 18:15

Bugger... I have an interview. On the 14th. But I don't get back til the 11th and don't know anyone who can babysit. So, I think I have to say I can't go

Are these McPoo beans and fruit bars magic special ones? Do people actually buy these things?

pointydog · 30/06/2009 18:16

I really hope people don't buy them. She is such a greedy twat

Boco · 30/06/2009 18:27

I'm haunted by that woman's description of her own poo. I was about to describe it, but remembered the poo rule.

You really are taken with fruitus pointy, I will look out for it.

Glad you had a good day Toot.

It's too hot to eat much isn't it. Apart from choc ices.

FrannyandZooey · 30/06/2009 18:35

Tiger we have (well, we did have ) microfibre nappies that come out of the washing machine virtually dry
they aren't as wholesome as the cotton type naturally
or you can get various designs where you can open out the nappy / unstuff it and allow it to dry more easily - i would try the Nappy Lady site and get advice on exactly what would be best for you

it's so cool you are hungry!

lemur, i think a lot of people are sympathetic but we are going to be subject to such suspicion and intrusion if these recommendations go through, in fact even the review has in my opinion raised doubts in people's minds about the safety of home ed and made them think that we all need to be monitored - after all, who would trust a parent to look after their own child properly?

LOL 100 @ "what fun"
i should start doing that
a woman stopped me and 2 friends today and said "congratulations on your beautiful children"
i said afterwards we need to hand out cards saying "Yes they are all home educated. look at us walking around the park in public not abusing them at home"

sorry
has been a bit of a sore spot for home ed community lately
