For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

DD's school gets great results even though they don't seem to push too much in Reception. Not all children are ready to read at 4/5, so why force the issue? Sadly a lot of people (including parents if those of some of dd's friends are anything to go by) seem to think that the key to a good primary education is to have all children reading fluently by the time they leave reception. Which is clearly bollocks.

Anyway...

cabbage
carrot
onion
mayonnaise
cucumber
apple
sweetcorn

And some waddling walking

littlerach · 29/06/2009 16:01

Can't read all the posts, but hope you are all well.

Mits, have a safe journey tomorrow

Isn't it hot

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 16:08

lemur and baby lemur just left - they are both gorgeous!
in a rush as going to trampolining, but had a very nice relaxing time (except for ds1 coming out with some corkingly embarrassing moments )

Can I confess pretty much all I have eaten today is fruit, cake and icecream

What can I do with runner beans tonight? Would they stir fry? I have other stuff to go with.

SB I will go to a festival with you next year Have never been and was going to go this year but it didn;t work out.

SuperBunny · 29/06/2009 17:08

Yay, FK!

Am glad Lemur and Franny had a good time.

Children here start school a year later than in England, although many are in preschool from 2.9 I don't think the later start in formal education is terribly detrimental to the American people, is it? I don't understand the big push for littlies to be able to read and write. Before I had DS, I might have said different.

pointydog · 29/06/2009 17:25

orange juice
sultannas
banana
carrots and sweetcorn
strawberries
olives
beetroot

and I haven't even had my tea yet

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/06/2009 17:46

Ah Franny, you're too kind

We had a lovely day, but it went too quickly. Franny's ds1 made me laugh quite a few times and ds2 is just a peach.

Blimey, this heat. It makes me look like this all of the time.

Are the in-laws here LR?

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 18:17

I'm not sure if this is blasphemy on this thread, but I have to say that I don't really like lettuce. In fact, it sucks. There are so many nice-tasting leaves, I do not understand why lettuce is so popular.
There.

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 18:51

2 veg samosas
peach
raisins
tomato
cucumber
beetroot
carrot
apple
rocket

not all full portions but not bad for variety, eh? Considering it is me and not one of yer fancy Franny/Molly types...

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 18:52

I composted the carefully shredded lettuce evil leaves.

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 18:53

Oh AND dried mango

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 19:03

do you mean like iceberg lettuce toot? cause that is crap
but i like other kinds, i think - romaine, and little gem

me and lemur did NOT eat our salad garnish thingies
i kind of pushed mine around for a while but it was too hot to faff about eating
we did force down a bit of cake you'll be pleased to hear
and lemur brought posh chocolate
her ds is a poppet! my ds1 is most taken with him
he is handsome and squidgetastic, and most good natured
however ds2 and he fought over the tomy egg box ALL DAY - i think baby lemur won on the whole

OP posts:
TooTicky · 29/06/2009 19:18

Yes this was iceberg, but I think I have been disappointed with nearly every type of lettuce.

littlerach · 29/06/2009 19:19

Lemur, they have been, stayed and left, and bought a house

ToT, I only like lettuce if it is v green and usually with lots of dressing on, or coleslaw

lettuce (crappy iceburg, also a gem one)
colesalw (??)
tomatoes
celery
cucumber
red and yellow peppers
sweetcorn
peas
sesame seeds
green and yellow peppers
tomatoes
sweetcorn
strawberries
melon
kiwi

Blimey, that is my longest list ever

I reckom I should have a sticker for that, though I think possibly not the 10 portions

Oh, and rasiins and dried apricot

And, and I worked all day, so exercise as was rolling on floor with children and attempting to run around outside.

And the peas were homwgrown, agai

littlerach · 29/06/2009 19:20

TooT, we will sit together in Good Examples of eating for once!!!!!!!!!

How are you??

Guadalupe · 29/06/2009 19:20

What about rocket, watercress, spinach and sorrel? A soft english butter lettuce is often delicious and I really like romaine and little gem. The bitter ones add a good flavour too.

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 19:22

I am immensely hot and sweaty

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2009 19:23

i think toot said she liked leaves but not lettuce
i know what you mean to an extent toot
but you have to think of them as a conduit for dressing

OP posts:
TooTicky · 29/06/2009 19:25

I adore rocket and watercress. Spinach okay. Not sure I have tried sorrel.

Ds2 had a severe language delay when he was younger and although his speech is pretty fine now, there are times when wires seem to get crossed in his brain. He just came out to the kitchen and said, "Mum, could you lick me on the bum?" when what he actually wanted me to do was scratch his back

Some of his wire crossings are quite bizarre...the other day he was struggling to think of the word eagle, and the closest he could get was sculpture. I would LOVE to know how his mind works!!

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 19:26

Oh I can never really be arsed with dressing.

TooTicky · 29/06/2009 19:27

Salad dressing that is. I am wearing clothes.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/06/2009 19:30

Blimey LR, that was fast work. How was it? Painful? Have you already mentioned it and I've been really unobservant?

The boy is in bed. He was knackered after having such a lovely day. He had frozen melon balls for dinner and thought they were wonderful. I'm going to freeze some grapes tonight, what else can I freeze that will be yummy? Kiwi? Strawberries?

Iceburg doesn't taste of anything so it has to be dressed. But I do like the crispness and crunchiness of it.

MayorNaze · 29/06/2009 19:32

good evening!

ok here goes:

strawberries
raspberries
banana
apple
lettuce
cucumber
orange/satsumas
spinach
mush rooms
carrots
grapes

2 hours gardening, 1 hour pottering

do i get bonus points for growing the strawberries, raspberries, spinach, lettuce and carrots? or just a boot in the arse for being smug

how are we all? not too hot i hope?

Guadalupe · 29/06/2009 19:37

Oh I see. I think of all leaves as lettuce really, or maybe I think of all lettuce as leaves. I love dressing too.

Stawberries
salad (little gem, sorrel and herbs)
tomatoes
cucumber
red currants
blackcurrants
cauliflower
broccoli
leeks
pepper
orange juice
apple
dried apricots

Guadalupe · 29/06/2009 19:38

well, done mayornaze.

I say your name in my head with a very nasally tone.
