psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:11

obviously it isn;t that normal, but I have a mirena coil in now, which I hve never had befoer with smears, and so I wondered if ti was normal to have pain the day after once you have a coil.

am hoping I make sanes.....am hurting lots right now.

my belly is swollen too. i look about 6mths pregnat. and I feel sick it hurts so much.

will tabs help and will it settle, or do I need checking out?

I would give your GP a call and go back if you still feel the same this morning.

CoteDAzur · 26/02/2009 07:35

Of course, ıt ısn't normal. I would be especıally worrıed about the paınful swollen belly.

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:35

riht now, not even sure I can drive anywhere, even walking hurts trying to get the chidren sorted.

i dont like this

Argh... You know what I mean.

CoteDAzur · 26/02/2009 07:37

Can anyone come over and take you to A&E?

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:37

cote, i think that makes sense, you are worried about the swollen belly??

why

OP posts:
doenstlikethismuch · 26/02/2009 07:37

give your GP a call and get them to tell you what to do - have you had any bleeding?

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:38

my mil probably could maybe. or my friend? why A&E over docs tho?

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:38

i bled a little yesterday but nothing today.

CoteDAzur · 26/02/2009 07:43

I would be worried because painful & swollen belly could mean infection.

Do you have a fever?

Do your hands/feet feel tingly or numb?

In any case, it is really not normal to be in this much pain after smear. I would go to A&E. Better safe than sorry.

Tiggiwinkle · 26/02/2009 07:46

Not normal at all-I have had smears with mirena in place and no problem at all.

Was everything ok before the smear?

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 07:48

no fever, just pain. hands feel tngly but they do every morning anyway as I have necks probs and sleep badly. feet are ok tho.

have managed to get clothes on, but am in my sloucy nearly pj stuff, and even they hurt on my belly.

my docs have open clinic till 9am. am goning to try them first, not least cos the seats are better, and see what they say. going to have to drive as no-one has a big anough car to also helpw tih school runs.

tiggi, i have been having preiods and pain issues for a while now, and keep complaining on here about it, but when I spoke to the nurse she didn;t seem overly fussed. altho i never really said how bad, more just a moan about it IYGWIM. she didn;t comment on it lookiing odd whne doing the smear, altho she seems shocked that i was hurting while she was doing it. it always hurts tho for me, so was not un-normal at that point.

this is tho, for me, but i wondered if it was just the coil and so normal with that.

OP posts:
Tiggiwinkle · 26/02/2009 07:53

You obviously need to get it checked out urgently since you are in so much pain-good luck at the docs.

Let us know how you get on.

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 08:04

going shortly. just been feeding the tribe and hurrying them up so we can leave for school early and me get to the docs.

CoteDAzur · 26/02/2009 08:21

loopylou6 · 26/02/2009 08:22

i get swelling and pain with endometriosis which is connected to your periods/ovulation cycle.

i often have pain during smears also.

i ended up taking myself off to A&E after I got apathy from my GP.

the pain was so bad i could hardly walk.

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 10:37

am back, hurting worse now from an internal.

blnks, the reason for my coil is for endo issues, and in fact, this pain is axactly the same!

doc is right now pondering bladder infection introduced from the speculam banging so hard on my bladder wall during the smear. I do get VERY tense thru bad smears n tha past....she has said in fact that future smears I will need sedating for. christ knows how the hell they are gonna get my coil out.......gas and air would be my choice of drug.

anyway.........right now hurting worse. got shoulder pain too, since the internal, and the doc said if it gets worse and stays worse I am to go back. she said the strings are still there, but i guess that doesn;t rule out them being caught and the coil moving.

she said she has never had anyone come back in pain after a smear tho, so am I weird??

i have antibiotics. well, flame is gettin them for me.

flame was a star in fact. I rang her from the docs and she came and followed me home to make sure i was safe

Oh dear psycho-have been wondering how you were getting on.

The doctor presumably ruled out an ectopic (I think you get shoulder pain associated with that and there is an increased risk with the mirena irrc).

I would go to A and E if that pain does not improve very soon...

psychomum5 · 26/02/2009 11:43

tiggi, i actually only have the merina in for endo reasons, DH had 'the snip' after DS2 was born, so thankfully pretty impossible for it to be ectopic pregnancy. the pain has eased off right now thanks to co-codomal, but if it returns later I will be goin back! I can;t put up with this for long

OP posts:
Tiggiwinkle · 26/02/2009 11:51

At least that is good that it cant be an ectopic then.

It seems strange for a UTI to cause such intense pain so quickly if she thinks it may have been triggered by the smear though...Does it feel like a UTI?

I would definitely go back if it returns.

Tiggiwinkle · 26/02/2009 11:57

Actually psycho, thinking on it, did the doctor know you had shoulder pain too?

Don't want to alarm you, but shoulder pain associated with abdominal pain can be a serious symptom.

If she was not aware, I would ring her and ask for advice now.

thanks herbie.

tiggi, no, the shoulder pain came on after the internal. I have to say i did query her thouhts of it being a urine infectioin as the pain is not like that, but she seems to think that the pain is there oing on how she pressed and my yelps in reaction to it.
