No1andNo2 - I am doing the GL diet, slightly different then the GI and seems to work much better for me, easier to follow.

FairyTaleEnding · 19/02/2009 20:37

ManIFeelLikeAWoman - don't want to hijack thread but no, I'm in Herts/Bucks. London meetings occasionally but not very often!

Keep up the support, everyone. It's a brilliant thread.

expatinscotland · 19/02/2009 20:41

maybe set a goal of something you'd like to do or buy, and then every time you don't take a drink, put the money you saved into a bank.

imagine how much £££ you'll save!

ManIFeelLikeAWoman · 19/02/2009 21:21

Someone on another thread the other day was asking if there was anyone like us on here ...

Are there any threads for our sort that you know of?

FairyTaleEnding · 19/02/2009 21:59

MIFLAW - there you go, I've done it!

over here

My first ever thread-starting, I feel quite faint.

oggsdog · 20/02/2009 07:48

I've been lurking on here for the past few days and need to work through and face up to a few things.

Just marking the thread as I think I'll be back.

lulu41 · 20/02/2009 07:59

morning everyone - feeling a little more positive today - hope everyone had a good night - my dcs father was around last night and never drink in front of him - in fact I hide my drinking from everyone ie wait to kids are asleep drink in another room to them hide glass when they walk in room in case they tell daddy that mummy is a drunk!!

Definately not drinking tonight as a full time working mum have a crap load of stuff to do on Saturdays and its much easier without a hangover

ManIFeelLikeAWoman · 20/02/2009 10:45

Lulu

Don't mean to upset you but do you not think that hiding your drinking is in itself a bad sign?

BlaDeBla · 20/02/2009 12:04

I think you've said it, lulu - no drinking when you've got things to get done the next day. That's great. Can you think of lots of things that need to be done and need more concentration than you can muster with a hangover?

lulu41 · 20/02/2009 12:51

ManIfeellikeawoman - of course I know that hiding my drinking is a problem

Busy busy busy is what I hope I will be this weekend instead of secretedly drinking my wine !!

beinghonest · 20/02/2009 15:15

I have been keeping busy too. It helps me if my hands are occupied (I made dp a little embroidered card for valentines's day) and it helps if I do something else at the important trigger times e.g. deliberately arranging to meet a friend for a swim at 6pm. I'd had to prepare dinner before I went, and when I got back, we just ate it. No opportunity for a glass while I was preparing, and no time for a pre-dinner drink.

If oggsdog comes back - you'll find that we are very welcoming and understanding. If you can be honest with yourself, then you can be honest with us.

beinghonest · 21/02/2009 09:57

Good morning!

Saturday and not a hangover in sight. I am so pleased with myself.

FairyTaleEnding · 21/02/2009 11:19

Well done, BeingHonest!

(Nothing worse than feeling chirpy and having no one around to acknowledge it!)

Keep it up - lovely sunny day should help. I always feel so much more positive when the sun shines.

beinghonest · 22/02/2009 19:56

How is everyone doing?

Cheninblanc · 23/02/2009 08:00

Hi all,

How were your weekends? I was totally hopeless and hiding last week as had friends staying (no real excuse I know) and ended up drinking a little every evening. Nothing outrageous, couple of ciders / glasses of wine. Til Friday when we went out and I had a bottle of wine +? to myself...

Paid for it by being miserable all day on Saturday. And my IBS was playing up. And my kidneys were sore yesterday. So back on the health kick with a vengenance this week. Think my body really needs a break and having a serious detox week. DP also now off the alcohol, which should help a lot.

n1&2, how was your weekend away? lulu, bla, beinghonest, eastergirl, ilove... what do you have to report? ;)

To a hangover free week ahead

BlaDeBla · 23/02/2009 10:01

It sounds as though you drank pretty normally, Cheninblanc. There is nothing wrong with having a little bit to drink every night. If I don't have anything to drink, I tend to have a bottle of wine all at once too when I do. I think I don't like being told what to do, and being 'good' doesn't bring any rewards in the first place. I drank quite a lot on Thurs, then less on Fri and Sat and nothing last night.

What do your kidneys feel like? I have IBD which isn't the same as IBS as there isn't any particular food or drink that I should avoid.

no1andno2 · 23/02/2009 10:07

hi guys. Had a good weekend away but I did drink G and t as an aperitif and a few bottles of red with DH. Also shared a bottle of red wine with DH when we gay back last night but nothing majorly excessive though probably 25 units over 3 days which is not good. But no major hangovers and I am now off it for 2 weeks again.

I know I wont drink next weekend as I am out both Friday and Sat night at do's where I will be driving and the old abstinence rule has kicked in again.

Keep intouch. I will post later . No alcohol tonight........all promise ??

xx

Morning all. Yes I was bit cheeky at weekend. Had all week of not drinking then we had my brother up for the weekend and i had maybe 4 glasses(red) FRiday night and 3 glasses(red) Saturday and then one last night. So honest units...13-14 this week. My glasses can be big..!!!
Tried to drink loads of water inbetween drinks and the next day, plus went running and took plenty of vit b and berroca...oh and milk thistle!!! This is only because I slipped up a bit and felt guilty. However water, exercise and vitamins all help as told by the nurse who did my blood tests.....I cling on to that knowledge!! By the way she also told me that you are better of having 1 glass of wine or whatever per night than saving it for the weekend and having too much...more pressure on your liver...Don't seem to be able to master that as I feel like I've been drinking all week then!
Well heres to a healthy week ladies!!
Back to no booze this week...so I'm with you all

beinghonest · 23/02/2009 11:13

Nothing at all on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Partly due to really overdoing it on the previous Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Partly due to being busy (had to collect dd from a party again on Saturday night).

Have been back and done the things that have worked for me in the past (re-reading Allan Carr's book, re-listened to hypnotherapy tape, been for a swim).

Last night dp opened some beer. Normally that would have been a cue for me to get a bottle of wine, but I knew that if I opened it, it would most likely be the whole bottle gone, so I didn't and had a cup of tea instead. Did I miss it? A wee bit. Did I miss feeling crap in the night? Not at all.

no1andno2 · 23/02/2009 11:35

well done being honset I am v v impressed.

Morning everyone - my weekend well Friday nothing Saturday 3 very large glasses sunday finished off bottle and shared a bottle of champagne yesterday. So not too bad but did have a very guilty moment as I was watching HSM3 with kids and secretly drinking in the kitchen and my ds said really loudly I smell wine - well I was no where near him and I was not holding a glass - I guess my "secret drinking" is not as quite a secret as I had thought - I dont drink in front of them very often as I dont want their father knowing how much I drink .

On a brighter note feeling very positive about this week (ATM) and hope to stay off all week - its my birthday at the weekend so may well indulge - was thinking of giving it up for lent but think I will have to think of an alternative !!

PortofinoLovesPancakes · 23/02/2009 14:12

I'd like to join in too! I normally do at least one bottle a night. DH is getting a bit fed up with it, and I've put on loads of weight. Time to get a grip I think. I don't think I'd be able to cut down - if there's a bottle open i will drink it.

I decided this morning that I will give up for Lent! I realise it will probably have to a day at a time. But my daughter is going on a kid's camp thing for 3 days at Easter and me and DH are having a romantic break. Target is to lose some weight and save my wine money for a nice dinner somewhere.

no1andno2 · 23/02/2009 14:27

PLp that is me too. DH getting fed up with it and Im 3 stone too heavy.

Keep posting here. We are all in the same boat.

would normally be thinking about buying my wine on the way home from work by now but am now trying to train my brain into thinking insread of that I will do something I need to do/or want to do ie. soak in bath or perhaps get my wifit out and do a bit of exercise good luck everyone. I too have put on over a stone since Christmas I had lost 1 stone of the 3 I need to lose but that has gone back on since my wine consumption upped - good luck everyone

PortofinoLovesPancakes · 23/02/2009 14:41

I must admit i feel slightly panicky at the thought that there is no wine in the house. I will be strong. I know that DH will be well impressed with me.
