I had my appointment yesterday and the results came through today, which was much quicker than expected.
I'm pretty impressed. Most of my results are in the 'optimum' or 'good' range which is really reassuring (including cholesterol, which was flagged as being a concern in a recent NHS test and which I've been taking steps to address.) There are a few things that are poor: low total protein and Globulin in the liver (which isn't surprising as I'm vegetarian, but good to know and easy enough to address) and some of the blood ones, which have been a recurring theme in GP-ordered blood tests for the last couple of years. Getting the GP to monitor and re-test has been a constant battle and I've paid for Thriva tests which have differed wildly in their readings from the NHS, which just adds to the confusion. I'm really glad to have this test as a baseline, and the knowledge that I can have another test in the same place, using the same metrics, in 4 and 8 months, is really helpful.
The other helpful thing is getting a good snapshot of my hormone situation. I'm 56 and still stubbornly in a loooooong perimenopause, but I can see from this that things are fairly well balanced and my oestrogen level is still pretty good. I'm glad I can now see if this changes over the next year. I really like the efficiency of the chat function which gives instant access to tailored information and answers to exactly the kind of questions I've always wanted to ask my GP after a blood test but never get the chance in a rushed 5 minute phone call. (My turtle is also a bit too extra-friendly, but I'm hoping that calms down when I don't respond to all its extra prompts.)
All in all it's a thumbs-up from me, and I'm going to try to persuade DH to join too. I think it's well worth the money. (Thank you again for the referral @greencrab !)
