We are on the waiting list for therapy and reading up about it like loons, but we are feeling really bleak about it. It's such a fucking pointless, ridiculous evolutionary blip, and it's turning her into a ghost of herself. Anyone got any cheery stories about recovery to bolster me? Normally more resolute, but just tonight feeling crap about it.

Ha ha ! My hassling of the CMHT has worked! They have brought her appt. forward, only by 3 days, but it feels like a big victory. Hurrah. We only have to hang on for a week now.

Mrs JD how is your ds today?

That's a bit of good news for you at least gp. Keeping fingers crossed for you that the next week goes quickly. I know that the appointment won't be able to come soon enough. ((((hugs)))). Keep us posted.

dh and I beginning to argue a lot....
must stop this for dd's sake
I am exhausted but am going to view this like a marathon not a sprint and so try and marshall some long term resources
and stay off the sauce as it is not helping
only making me more irascible and depressed
on a brighter note she is going to try and go to school for an hour today

That's good news about the appointment - well done. Hope she manages ok at school - good for her

Flowertop · 23/04/2008 11:21

GP well done for getting the appointment brought forward. Doesn't it just piss you off that you have to fight for everything. You must feel quite alone right now but you are clearly a fighter which will stand you all in good stead! Good news that your lovely DD has gone to school. Keep updating/letting it out on here as we are all rooting for you all.

Hi Gp. How are things today? Did dd manage to get to school today? How did it go? Thinking of you (((hugs)))

gracepaley · 23/04/2008 18:16

Hello. She went to school for an hour, but it completely exhausted her and she's lost her language again now. But I think it was good for her to go. She has good friends.
We will try again for another hour tomorrow.
What's extraordinary is everyone I speak to - her music teacher, her drama teacher, - all know a child of about the same age with the same condition. Really different manifestations, but the same thing. THe OTHER extraordinary thing is that dp CANCELLED A MEETING the other night in order to be home for kids' bedtime. This is a first in our 14 year relationship.

am so glad dd is going to try again tomorrow and that she has lovely friends and it sounds as though the teachers are understanding...good luck again tomorrow. Your dp sounds as though he is really helping out too - good for him.

MrsJonnyDepp · 23/04/2008 22:45

Hello - nice to hear about your DH cancelling a meeting I'm sorry to hear you have been arguing - its so stressfull.

My ds has been ok over the past couple of days - school keeps him focused on other things - its after school and the weekends that can be particulary hard. My son has not seen a doctor or been refered - I was hoping not to worry him in this way, but if it remains as is on worsens - We may not be able to cope without expertise and support.

I know very little on the topic (other than my own memory of being 8-12 years old) and I certainly had many rituals to keep control.

gracepaley · 24/04/2008 09:58

It's a tricky one isn't it Mrs JD. My dd has had ocd periods before which she has dealt with on her own, and I totally understand about not wanting to get a kid labelled unnecessarily. The diagnostic criteria are that if it is taking up more than an hour a day and is significantly interfering with their school, home or social life, then they are no longer sub clinical and could benefit from some help.
It's great that school is distracting him. I hope it just passes for him.

Thanks

Been a good day so far. Hope things are good for you too.

berolina · 24/04/2008 18:09

grace - I haven't been around much - been ill and sad (just very tired, I think) - but I am thinking of you! Get in touch any time with questions etc. Well done about the appointment. Both your girls sound fab, just fab

MargaretMountford · 24/04/2008 18:17

berolina - hope you feel better soon

gracepaley · 24/04/2008 18:41

Berolina - you ok? why so sad?
You have been such a diamond helping me through this.

OP posts:
berolina · 24/04/2008 18:44

oh, am just tired and blue, I think (and ill, which never helps - when I am no longer ill shall probably be able to see more clearly). Thanks for asking

gracepaley · 24/04/2008 19:44

Oh sorry, love. Hope you feel better soon. Me too, at the moment - I mean ill, tired, and somewhat getting things out of perspective. Am looking forward to getting into a really hot bath and then watching needless tv. IF dd allows.

worrybum · 25/04/2008 11:15

Check in and let us know how things are today gp. Thinking of you and dd. Hope you managed to get your bath and tv session [smile)

enchantedbroccolligarden · 25/04/2008 12:52

I am moved beyond words.

But I hope that E and RP therapy can gradually carry your wonderful daughter back to the safer, more familiar world that she knew before OCD.

That may be a way off, I know, but she is in such good hands with a mum like you.

Look after yourself, too.

gracepaley · 25/04/2008 13:49

thank you ebg and worrybum.
She has gone to school just now for an hour with a big smile on her face......
very very brilliant to see.
