That is so sad Top - your poor DH, what a time he's having. Look after yourself. Flowers

lucysmam · 02/02/2024 18:33

Oh Top, I'm so sorry 💐 I hope you're both doing ok, and your dc x

KentishMama · 02/02/2024 19:11

I posted a message earlier and it's disappeared... Hmmm.

@TopOfTheCliff I'm so very sorry about your MIL. How's DH holding up? Does FIL need 24/7 care? What s nightmare.

@Tilllly I had an online GP appointment this morning and they're sending me a dermatology referral. Luckily the patch is quite low down and hidden well under my long hair. I have a hair dressers appointment tomorrow as well (coincidentally, I only go very rarely), so will seek advice then. I just find it triggering, it reminds me of the chemo hair loss, and I'm scared this is the beginning of a new drama. Always thought of myself as fairly resilient, but I don't have anything left!

TopOfTheCliff · 02/02/2024 19:27

Thanks peeps for your kind wishes. I’m trying not to make things worse for DH. I slept a lot of today but my head aches and I have bad vertigo so don’t like doing the stairs when the house is empty. I got my cleaner in for an hour to wash up, change the bed and make me tea. DH is ferrying SIL and talking to agencies and crumbling slowly. He’ll be home soon for supper and a hug. Yes FIL needs 24 care but DH and SIL will need time to decide what to do next.

I know what you mean @KentishMama . If the elastic is already fully stretched it has no more room to give. Be kind to yourself.

Tomorrow is DMs 90th birthday party. Just as well I wasn’t planning to go in the circumstances. I’m a bit sad to miss it though.

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 19:42

Completely understand @KentishMama

Sometimes it's just all too bloody much

FFS, do you have to put up with anything else. This bastard disease takes so much

Good job you're gorgeous and it won't affect your international modelling career 😘

KentishMama · 02/02/2024 19:50

@Tilllly I'm in huge demand - there's a real market for overweight forty-somethings with wonky boobs and patchy hair! Sadly I had to turn down a job with Chanel next week as it clashes with my opthalmology appointment. But I'm sure they'll book me next time, their campaign just won't be the same without me.

Oh for fucks sake

I wondered why they'd asked me last minute

Hi everyone, feel like the new girl at school but can I join your club please.
Found a lump just before Christmas, confirmed breast cancer mid Jan, had my port fitted yesterday and got my start date through for chemo in a fortnight.
So I guess I now have to accept that this is actually happening and not a clerical error!

lucysmam · 03/02/2024 08:25

Hi @Icanneverthinkofausername welcome to the thread none of us wants to be on 👋 . They're an amazing bunch of people though, with heaps of experience between them, so definitely the "right" place to be!

SewingBees · 03/02/2024 09:01

Hi @Icanneverthinkofausername, welcome. How are you feeling?

Tilllly · 03/02/2024 10:11

@Icanneverthinkofausername

Welcome, it's crap but this grp helps

Get a note book and write down everything, staff names, calls appointments etc

MacMillan and breast care now are good sites

Don't google!!

Icanneverthinkofausername · 03/02/2024 10:35

Definitely not googling! I could convince myself a hang nail was fatal on Google.

I'm very pissed off to be honest, this was not in my game plan.

SewingBees · 03/02/2024 10:47

You have every right to be pissed off. I know I am. I switch between resigned, furious and practical on an hourly basis. What do you know about the type of cancer you have?

WombTangClan · 03/02/2024 11:03

Hello! Please may I shuffle back in to join your ranks again? I was on last year under a different name with womb cancer. Had an urgent dermatology consult for a mole on my breast earlier in the week and now waiting for the letter to drop through the door for the date to get it removed for biopsy.
Here we go again.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 03/02/2024 11:44

Hello @WombTangClan and @Icanneverthinkofausername aorry you’re here but welcome none the less.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 03/02/2024 11:45

Any recommendations for picc line covers for very fat upper arms! First immunotherapy went well, no issues so far!

Tilllly · 03/02/2024 13:12

One week till pup day

@Icanneverthinkofausername welcome. I joined just under two weeks ago and have felt every emotion during that time. I am a regular blood donor, rare group, and my reminder to book my next appointment came in on Thursday. I called to say I had been diagnosed with cancer, and just like that I have been ‘retired’ and can never give blood again, even if I get over this. Think that was the angriest I’ve been this week, already it is taking part of me. Appointment with my GP yesterday about a different pain, she thinks it has spread. So, does that mean what they have found could be a secondary? Roll on my pre-op on Tuesday.

PissOffCancer · 03/02/2024 15:53

@Tilllly oh my, what an absolutely perfect bundle of fluff 🐾

Florsilvestredelcampo · 03/02/2024 17:08

So far I've had a brilliant week I became a step grandmother yesterday and today I did my 25th parkrun!
I have looming my oncologist appt on Friday, what will that bring ?more treatment ? stopping Niraparib?

Until then I will carry on enjoying my week and pretending life is how it was pre cancer.
At the moment I need to stir myself because I promised to make cookies with my son and he never forgets a rash parental promise!

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 03/02/2024 17:14

@Tilllly awwDpup is gorgeous!
@Florsilvestredelcampo congratulations on the new addition!

TwigTheWonderKid · 03/02/2024 20:00

@PissOffCancer I'm surprised that your GP told you that; how would they know? Have you had a scan?

I think a lot of us when we are first diagnosed have a lot of phantom pains, or stress-related pain because of the worry. Hopefully that's all yours is. But I think you need your oncologist, not your GP to tell you what's actually going on.

I was also a long time blood donor and had booked an appointment just before my diagnosis :( Like you I let them know and that's it, no more Tunnock's tea cakes (I'm in Scotland!). However, I did get a lovely handwritten thank you card and a certificate which helped a little :)

Any one in the hive got any words of wisdom regarding lymph node removal with breast cancer.
Started off with a surgeon who spoke about targeted dissection as 2 nodes only appear affected.. now another surgeonafter another MDT meeting talking about all of them being removed..
There seems to be no consistency in messages, which doesn't inspire faith.
I have neuropathy from chemo in one arm which is horrid ( thank god not both) , now looking at acquiring oedema in the other! Wonder how prognosis is affected. Looks like I'll be continuing on with my cocodamol, Movicol multivit cocktails indefinitely!
