I want, nay NEED, dh to have a vasectomy. He is fobbing me off. Anyone successfully talked their other half round?

We had a little scare, until this morning - PHEW! - and I thought, well if I am pregnant, we will deal with it.

dh said we would have an abortion , which with him being Catholic an all I didn't expect

now obviously you can't compromise on either of the above so to make sure it does not happen again, I keep going on about the snip

no joy

I don't like the pill or any hormone contraceptions, faffy caps or such nonsense

I say snip

Tips please or advise before I go grey

Withold 'services'

I didn't have to persuade dh - 3 was enough for both of us, we had a 'scare' and it brought home that we were 100% certain that we'd like to stick to 3!

He had no problem with it - it's hardly major surgery.

If he had objected I would have said 'well I'm not taking responsibility for contraception anymore, I've done my bit, so until you do 'doors closed' mate'

We had a little scare like that too and ended up with a ds.

Afterwards dh referred himself for a snip.

My dh says it wasn't painful. He caught a bus home instead of getting a taxi and then collected dd from school! He sat with a bag of peas on his bits for most of the weekend, (had it done on a Friday) and was back at work on the Monday.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:51

Life is infinitely easier with a snipped dh

the coil is very reliable- my dh was tempted to have a vasectomy but i wasn't happy about it- we have settled that i shall have a coil fitted at my postnatal check.

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 13:53

Do you really not get periods with a coil ?? I thought you did. My gp is still trying to persuade me to have one.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:53

does it hurt when they fit it?

I have had enough people messing about tbh

mirena coil is hormonal and you tend to not have periods but you can get the old style non hormonal copper ones.

It is uncomfortable to have put in but fgs woman- you've done childbirth!

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:54

(as in doctors, not the whole neighbourhood )

I hate taking the pill.

whats the deal with this coil then? Is it safe?

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 13:55

Why should you go through any more though. Blokes do eff all in this dept don't they - one hour op is not exactly the end of the world for them is it?

I thought the coil made some people have heavy periods though ??

I am on pill and am very bad as I never have a break. Think I am about to get caught out on next gp visit though.

yes gdg, exactly!

I may have to huff and sulk

I am sure people on here have had bad turns on the Merena coil iirc

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 13:56

How long does it stay in for ?

scorpio1 · 16/08/2007 13:56

coil is great. only hurts for a bit after having it in-just crampy.

doesn't hurt having it in or out. made my periods disappear! Great.

preggersagain · 16/08/2007 13:56

but remember vasectomy is not as reliable as coil! 2%failure rate and takes about 6 months before you are 'safe'
