I want, nay NEED, dh to have a vasectomy. He is fobbing me off. Anyone successfully talked their other half round?

We had a little scare, until this morning - PHEW! - and I thought, well if I am pregnant, we will deal with it.

dh said we would have an abortion , which with him being Catholic an all I didn't expect

now obviously you can't compromise on either of the above so to make sure it does not happen again, I keep going on about the snip

no joy

I don't like the pill or any hormone contraceptions, faffy caps or such nonsense

I say snip

Tips please or advise before I go grey

Isn't it just the Mirena coil that has hormones? I thought the others were just twisty bits of copper? I'll have to check 'cos I was considering it, but I can't do the hormone bit either.

Hmm might have to investigate further then as no periods would be fab as mine are so painful I can't sit, stand, walk etc etc.

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 13:58

THe way dh's surgeon did it is 100% reliable (some new fangled way) - he said no chance whatsoever of not working or of reversing it.

Took about 4 months to get 'clearance'. Bob's yer uncle.

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 13:58

Oh really Cod, i did think that tbh as you don't have periods on the injection either do you.

Still not telling gp thats what i've been doing though lol.

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 13:58

Oh JT started menopausing around 36 so, fingers crossed...

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 13:59

And anyway, periods can be a good excuse to get an early night's sleep can't they? ROFL

serenity · 16/08/2007 13:59

To back up preggersagain, my Bf is currently 20 weeks with her very unexpected 4th, 5 years after her DH had the snip. Apparently there is a 1/4000 chance of spontaneous reversal, which is why I've stopped nagging my Dh, it's happened too close to home for me to trust it.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 13:59

gdg you are near me, did you go private and which clinic

I may proffer some brochures in my teeth, arf

GG- we were told that the male tubules that cary the sperm often re-route a bit like nerve endings and the only 100% reliable way is to remove the testicles

doggiesayswoof · 16/08/2007 13:59

What are his reasons for saying no OO?

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 14:00

No not private, NHS

morningpaper · 16/08/2007 14:00

If he is REALLY catholic then coil (yes even the Mirena) works by preventing implantation rather than fertilisation so you might not want that

Can't you say CONDOMS or SNIP?

tiredemma · 16/08/2007 14:00

Im going to ask about this coil.

Im useless at remembering to take my pill. Every month im on tenterhooks waiting for period as im always convinced ive been caught out.

Would rather stick pins in to my eyes than have another child.

Dont like all of the hormones in the pill either ( im convinced its those that make me gain weight= nothing to do with chocolate addiction of course)

Miaou · 16/08/2007 14:00

I love the coil too - agree with cod, not particularly painful to be fitted (on a par with a smear tbh in terms of discomfort), then you just forget about it and get it checked every so often! No periods, no PMT ... fab.

That said, dh is going to have the snip anyway. However he suggested it - I would not have asked him to do it just for me.

oooohh

did you have to with long with NHS?

doggie - 'it just doesn't seem right' is his reason. Yes, well the scar across my farkin stomach isn't right either matey boy

Gobbledigook · 16/08/2007 14:01

Oh I can't remember explanation but he explained why they wouldn't re-route the way he did it.

So far so good anyway and we seem to be the world's most fertile couple, just passing on the stairs seems to do it usually!! 3 years with no 'incident' so far

gess · 16/08/2007 14:01

Vasectomy is the most reliable method providing you wait for the all clear. Our guy gave us all the figures.

I just refused to have sex until dh agreed, and it had happened (another baby was not a possibility). He was pretty on-side though- he knew another one was not something we could cope with.

curlywurlycremeegg · 16/08/2007 14:01

mirena coil is fab, something like 99.9% effective, last five years and is very low does progesterone release. Used to have nightmare migranes with combined pill but no side effects from mirena, expect no periods

nutcracker · 16/08/2007 14:02

I think i might ask too, god knows why the gp didn't tell me that i'd not get a period on it, as that is what my whole problem is.

oliveoil · 16/08/2007 14:02

mp - well he was brought up catholic but he is about as catholic as me (ie not)

cod - why does your mate say no?
