I have been in agony for 3 or 4 hours, pain started in lower stomach and now moved to behind belly button and slightly to the right. Have taken paracetamol which has slightly taken the edge off but still very painful, slightly loose stools but nothing too major, not been sick bit feel sick due to the intensity of the pain. Have been wondering around, trying to poop in hope it will help bit not easing.

I'm a single parent and my dc's are asleep, I have no one to call to sit with them as it's stupid o clock. I don't think it's a big as I haven't left the house in 3 days, could be something I ate. Dr Google is saying appendicitis and NHS direct online tell me to call an ambulance. Do I just ride it out until kids are up and off to school? I don't know what else I can do. Also stuck as I have a new dog/puppy who won't leave my side and has not yet been left alone.

Still here as had diarrhoea and vomiting this eve at 6. My temp didn't spike though and so far so good the Painkillers have stayed down.
The pain in the area where they removed the appendix has eased.
So hopefully I'll be able to go home tomorrow..

Lovemusic33 · 09/07/2019 07:29

That’s a shame but sometimes vomiting can shift the gas (so I was told), I think my problem is I’m petrified of being sick so I did all I could not to be sick which made passing gas take longer. I had a bad night, cold sweats and bloating, couldn’t get comfortable so will be taking it easy today. Was hoping to be able to go for a walk with the dog today but not sure it will happen now. Hope you get home today x

Just saw the doc
I have a slight infection on my left lung as a result of the bad appendix. Apparently lying down spreads these things around the body and my appendix was pretty bad. It's not too serious and antibiotics will shift it.
Need more bloods done to ensure it's getting better and if the results are good he is hopeful I will get home today

Lovemusic33 · 09/07/2019 08:50

Are they going to give you antibiotics via drip? If so you should be home later today. Keeping fingers crossed you get home today x

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 09/07/2019 09:36

I had some antibiotics via drip and also painkillers. The intern just took blood there and I should have the results by lunchtime.
Had some toast and cereal for breakfast so I'm hopeful for good news later after lunch

ineedagirlsname · 09/07/2019 16:27

I'm being discharged this evening. So relieved. Will be getting a prescription for antibiotics and painkillers.
Finally going home to my babies
Thanks for all the support, hope you're having a better day today @Lovemusic33

Lovemusic33 · 09/07/2019 17:54

Great news, hope you have a speedy recovery. I have had a rest day today, still uncomfortable but slowly getting there. Make sure hospital go through after care with you unlike my hospital who just kicked me out with no info on what to do next (when to drive, how to clean wounds etc..). I received a message from my gp today saying I have an appointment booked next week so I’m guessing that’s a follow up for the op.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 10/07/2019 13:15

So sore today. I'm so sad as well. Keep bursting into tears as I can't hold my baby. My parents are here and they are brilliant but it hurts so much to not be able to comfort her.

Didn't get much info re after care.
Told not to be afraid to let the water run on the wounds in the shower.
Nothing about driving but I will ask my GP after a while.
It's tough.
How you're feeling a little better today @Lovemusic33

Lovemusic33 · 10/07/2019 13:22

Sorry your feeling down * it’s early days, I’m sure in a day or 2 your will be able to hold your baby, the pain eases pretty quickly although it may not feel like it. In the last couple of days I have been able to lift a water can to water the garden and water a few plants, this morning I went for a short drive (only a couple miles up the road) and took the dog for a short walk in the woods, I still have some discomfort and need to be careful but each day I’m able to do more. Make sure you rest as much as you can but potter around occasionally (I do a few laps of the garden), this will help with any gas build up which will cause more pain. Let people look after you and you will be able to lift your baby in no time.

That's reassuring that you are making such good progress. I'm glad you're able to get outside..
I had a nap this evening and it was the first time I felt refreshed from a nap.
I'm on the peppermint tea and trying to move around the house when I can but it's sore.
Do you have much of an appetite?
I think I'm hungry and then struggle to eat very much..
I've had toast twice today and some chicken and mash. Need to eat with the painkillers/antibiotics.
Thank is for the positive words and I hope you have a good night tonight.

TapasForTwo · 11/07/2019 06:21

Are you insured to drive so soon after your op?

Lovemusic33 · 11/07/2019 07:28

Apparently once you can preform and emergency stop it’s fine to drive, this can take up to 2 weeks, I’m now 9 day post op, I can preform an emergency stop but still a little uncomfortable around the bends so won’t be going far. Luckily I live in the middle of nowhere so there’s not lots of starting and stopping to get to the woods (with ddog) it’s literally 2 miles up the road. I won’t be going any further for a while.

Lovemusic33 · 11/07/2019 07:29

ineed I was starving but found eating was very slow and frustrating followed by trapped wind so eat little and often rather then a big meal. I’m now eating much better but still getting the trapped wind if I don’t more around.

I'll try the little and often approach and the moving around. It's hard- the gas this morning was really painful. Might try some arnica as well.
Can't believe you're on day 9 and you still have painful gas..
well done on the driving though. I'm glad you are able to walk with your dog x

Lovemusic33 · 11/07/2019 18:11

ineed I often suffer from gas anyway so I think that’s added to it.
I went for a long walk today and have spent the rest of the day in pain, I think I over did it 😐, I have been taking arnica since I got home and I think it has helped, my wounds are looking good and bruising has gone.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 11/07/2019 21:36

I can't leave the house yet- would be terrified of walking too far and not being able to walk back.
One day at a time I guess. I hope you have a good rest tonight and that you're not sore tomorrow

Lovemusic33 · 12/07/2019 08:23

Take it slowly ineed I think I over did it. I’m going to take it easy today, dog has the vets this morning and then I don’t plan on doing much. I still have abdominal pain and had got sweats all night though I’m not running a temp so I don’t think it’s an infection. Feeling a bit fed up as I thought I was doing really well but maybe I should have been more careful? I will rest up today and just potter around the garden.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 12/07/2019 09:43

@Lovemusic33 I have those sweats. Every night. No temperature though so I like to think of it as any more bad stuff in me is being sweated out without a temp spike. I also had them after having my baby. I think we can both look on it as being a good thing.
I would imagine bringing the dog to the vet is more than enough for you to do in one day. You will need to rest after that. How are you coping with your DDs? Is your Mam still able to help? My parents go home tomorrow and are back Tuesday and I am dreading it! Can't imagine how we will manage without them..
I am going to ring my gp later with some questions that I didn't leave with answers from the hospital. He is only over the road but I just don't know if I can go to him.. still have pain. Might try. Haven't got up yet but need to get my meds into me so will have to get to now.. hope the visit to the vet goes well x

Lovemusic33 · 12/07/2019 11:25

The sweats are horrible, feel cold and clammy, I don’t get them when I nap during the day so will attempt to catch up on a few hours sleep this afternoon before dc get home. I had a bath today (not sure I’m meant too) as I just wanted to lie and relax, it soaked some of the glue off but all looks ok. The dog decided to puke in the back of my van on the way back from the vets so I have had to scrub the carpets and have left it to air, not what I needed Sad.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 12/07/2019 20:21

@Lovemusic33
Oh no the last thing you needed was for your dog to be sick.. I hope it was a quick clean up.
I made it to the doctor today. He checked me out and is happy so far. It's a question of time he says. Up to 6 weeks to be fully back to normal.
I mentioned the night sweats and once it wasn't accompanied by a fever it wouldn't be a sign of an infection.
Rest is important.
I hope you had some today.

Lovemusic33 · 12/07/2019 20:37

That's good about the night sweets, pretty sure I don't have a fever with them, jist really annoying as it's hard to sleep, though I can now sleep on my side without it hurting. I managed to cut the grass today (very slowlly) but haven't done much else. Feeling much more comfortable today. I jave the doctors Tuesday for my check up, hopefully I can then return to work.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 13/07/2019 18:48

My doc didn't seem to have heard from the hospital when I went to see him yesterday.
Had more night sweats last night...
but it was easier to get out of bed this morning.
Did a lot of lifting of my baby girl today and I'm regretting it now - wound area feels v sore..
it's hard not to try to comfort her.
I hope you are doing well today.

Lovemusic33 · 13/07/2019 18:59

Take it easy. I keep over doing for it and then pay for it the next day, I slept quite well last night with no sweats. First day I have almost felt normal. Don't over do things with the lifting, a few more days and you will feel much better.

OP posts:
ineedagirlsname · 14/07/2019 13:15

The night sweats have eased for me - the bleeding from baby has come back though.. and I'm still feeling sore.
Sitting out in the sun for a bit while I can ..
Hope you're not overdoing it today !
Easier said then done I know x

Lovemusic33 · 14/07/2019 14:41

I haven’t had anymore night time sweats, have had 2 good nights sleep which is good considering I’m sleeping in the sofa (trying to get the dog used to sleeping downstairs and not my bed).

Hope the bleeding eases soon, I bled for ages after having dd1 and it stoped and started again (seemed never ending).

I went for a long walk today with the dog and haven’t had any pain which is a good sign.

Fingers crossed we are both on the mend and all will be back to normal soon x
