I have been in agony for 3 or 4 hours, pain started in lower stomach and now moved to behind belly button and slightly to the right. Have taken paracetamol which has slightly taken the edge off but still very painful, slightly loose stools but nothing too major, not been sick bit feel sick due to the intensity of the pain. Have been wondering around, trying to poop in hope it will help bit not easing.

I'm a single parent and my dc's are asleep, I have no one to call to sit with them as it's stupid o clock. I don't think it's a big as I haven't left the house in 3 days, could be something I ate. Dr Google is saying appendicitis and NHS direct online tell me to call an ambulance. Do I just ride it out until kids are up and off to school? I don't know what else I can do. Also stuck as I have a new dog/puppy who won't leave my side and has not yet been left alone.

Thinking of you OP. Hope you feel better soon x

Lovemusic33 · 02/07/2019 22:35

Appendix is out but no ones told me anything about what condition it was in.

In a lot of pain from the surgery and struggling to empty my bladder meaning I have to keep getting up to go to the loo.

Hopefully see a doctor in the morning and go home mid day.

I have been on my own, no family came in so it's been hard to ask questions whilst feeling so ill.

Oh bless you, I’m glad it’s out! I suspect they’ll tell you more on ward round tomorrow. In the mean time ask for more painkillers! Keep your buzzer near you and just keep asking. Ask for help to the loo too, you’re post-op, it’s not an unreasonable ask. Get well soon Flowers

Lovemusic33 · 02/07/2019 22:43

Thank you, hopefully I will feel more human tomorrow. Hooked up to pain killers now which means I can't get to the loo as the wheels don't work on my drip stand.

Oooh glad it’s out and hopefully you’ll feel better quickly.

donajimena · 02/07/2019 23:20

Thank goodness you've been sorted. I was so worried yesterday when you weren't calling for help. I didn't give the full details yesterday as I didn't want to frighten you but the friend who had the peritonitis was so ill. She nearly died. It really was touch and go.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/07/2019 04:48

Love you poor thing, I hope you're in less pain this morning

Lovemusic33 · 03/07/2019 07:46

In lots of pain this morning mainly due to trapped Co2 from the key hole surgery, been told to move more but the pain is so unbearable when I move as it moves up higher and makes it hard to breathe. It's like really bad trapped wind. I'm going to see if I can get any peppermint tea as it's meant to help. Hoping to go home today but in no rush as I'm going to get jumped on by my dog when I get back, though I'm likely to be kicked out due to the lack of beds.

FaithInfinity · 03/07/2019 08:03

It’ll probably be late in the day by the time they’ve reviewed you and done your discharge letter. Make sure you get plenty of pain relief to take home, you may need something for constipation too! Peppermint tea seemed to help me after my laparoscopy so it’s a good idea. The pain from the gas is unpleasant, I couldn’t sleep on my right side for 2 nights because of the pain but it should ease off within 24-48 hours. Is your Mum going to keep helping with the children?

ThelmaDinkley · 03/07/2019 08:12

Aw OP it's really shit you're on your own. Can your mum or a friend help with the kids and dog. You don't need dog jumping on you after surgery. Hope you feel a lot better soon x FlowersCake

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/07/2019 08:34

I remember that pain from the gas after a laparoscopic procedure - it will begin to ease soon. Flowers for you.

StealthNinjaMum · 03/07/2019 08:47

Oh lovemusic33 that sounds awful. I hope the air comes out. What's the recovery time? I hope your mum and friends can help you to get some rest.

malteserbunnies · 03/07/2019 12:56

Oh op Thanks I hope you've got some help at home?

Lovemusic33 · 03/07/2019 14:56

Still I'm pain with the gas, they have now moved me from my nice room to the ward. I'm a emetephobe and they have put me opposite a woman who keeps being sick. Feeling really stressed and in pain. I want to go home but I know I won't be able to look after the kids and an excited puppy, I can hardly walk because of the pain. Don't think I will be going home until tomorrow ☹

Peanuthedz · 03/07/2019 15:29

Hey @Lovemusic33 at least it's out now... I'm an emetophobe so I really feel for you. Have you got headphones or anything so you could listen to music/radio/tv as a distraction. It's not infectious at least. Puppy will still be there when you're ready to deal with him. Thanks

Lovemusic33 · 03/07/2019 15:46

No head phones ☹
Haven't got much with me as didn't expect to be here. Hopefully I will be home tomorrow morning.

Hope you are doing OK- I have had similar myself and it was from adhesions (scar tissue) trapping the small bowel, sounds very similar symptoms.

FaithInfinity · 03/07/2019 17:02

It’s worth asking if the staff have any headphones. I’m not on the ward any more but we had them to plug into the TV and the radio was free.

Sunshineandflipflops · 03/07/2019 17:59

@Lovemusic33 I'm so sorry you've been going through it. I really hope you are home soon and have some support while you recover x

Lovemusic33 · 03/07/2019 19:28

There's no tv or radio on the wards, it's very boring. I now have 2 people vomiting and one belching all the time, I can't even get up to shut my curtains ☹☹😭

Won't be getting much sleep.

I know I'm better off here than at home as I am getting some level of rest.

Lovemusic33 · 03/07/2019 19:30

user did you have to go back into surgery? I haven't managed to poop though I'm probably to scared too, still struggling to pee.

user87382294757 · 03/07/2019 19:56

I think the morphine causes constipation...also it takes the bowel time to wake up after the surgery. I have been ok now for a while, hope all goes Ok and you are home soon Flowers

trevthecat · 03/07/2019 20:02

Hello, I had mine out on Sunday evening. Was home Monday morning as they needed my bed. I'm still in so much pain. Really struggling x

Ginmel · 03/07/2019 20:34

Guess it's too late to get any ear plugs to you
Glad the appendix is out. Can you get some extra strong pain killers to knock you out for the night?
