Well done Pidge!
It is chucking it down here, hope to get out later.

popsycal · 15/07/2007 12:21

Well I loved it!!!

My work colleagues kind of assumed w would all run together.......
And silly me didn't have the heart to say othrwise at the start

We were at the back of the runners group at the start line and it took almost 2 minutes to get to the start line. Then a good few mins of walking, then nearly 2km of dodgy cow pats and me feeling I had to stay back with my friends. Then I thought 'sod it' and accidently 'lost' them . By abotu 3km I was at a pace that I was happy with. I had forgotten to start my stop watch so startd it at 3 kms. Last 2K in 11:30 []. I crossed the line at 29:48 according to th official clock - so corrected to just under 28 mins given my inability to tell me friends I wanted to run on my own I am over the moon.

ALso ds1 was counting how many people were in front of me. He and DH reckon 21 people but I am inclined to think that is impossible. Anyway. It was great but I have smothered my calf muscle in deep heat as it hurts. Alot.

popsycal · 15/07/2007 12:26

Just to add: boiling hot sunshine

StripeyBroomstickSpottyWand · 15/07/2007 13:21

Nice one Popsy. Great time.

I had a good run this morning, 5k in 31mins. Am planning on swimming tommorrow as want to start some other training.

popsycal · 15/07/2007 13:50

Nice right calf muscle is grumbling severely.....

Right then. 10K in 8 weeks time. Looked at Cancer research 8 week programme which is basically telling me that by week 8 i ought to be doing what i can currently do already

popsycal · 15/07/2007 13:52

AH. It was the beginners' one i found

this is more appropriate

popsycal · 15/07/2007 13:55

sorry just adding more links for my own amusement - on borrowed work laptop so cant bookmark them :P
bupa

mamamoo · 15/07/2007 14:42

nice one popsycal....esp considering the lack of sleep, heat and delay at the front. This is where the bug kicks in...and you wanna beat that next time...........

I went out for a half hearted 45 min - mostly running...bit of walking...need a kick up the bum...dont know whats wrong with me these days..............(didnt get to meet my pals as went out a bit earlier...should have done as its always a pace run when Im with them!)

Ive printed off your schedules for a look...I have a 10k at start Sept.....perhaps I should follow one to give me a bit of incentive.

Veggiemummy · 15/07/2007 15:20

WELL DONE Pops that is brilliant and sound like you enjoyed yourself too so job done!!! How did your pregnant friend go? you must be very pleased with yourself.

I didnt get out for a ride this morning as was a bit sleepy decided to go in afternoon. now it's chucking it down, so it will be the windtrainer for me again, serves myself right for not getting out in the morning.

DoubleBluff · 15/07/2007 15:34

Well done Popsy. Good time.
Lokk after those legs!

TheDuchessDeMimsyNorkington · 15/07/2007 16:02

Great run Popsy! You must be really pleased to have the first one out of the way. And sub-30 minutes too despite loafing along with your friends!

Having missed running all week because of a cold I was really looking forward to this morning. But I haven't been out because DH didn't get up this morning and so I had all the DCs to look after, walk the dog, get DD1 to a party etc. I now have a huge headache so think an early evening run to clear it would be nice but I have a big stack of school uniforms to iron. I am very pissed off actually.

DoubleBluff · 15/07/2007 16:20

Aww Duchess, how many kids have you got?
It s so frustrating when you want to run but can't.
I really wanted to run but had my parents over for lunch and they made me drink tw o glasses of wine!
i feel very sleepy now so don't know if I will go.
And like you have a stack of rioning to do.

Pidge · 15/07/2007 16:23

popsy - you champion!! What a brilliant run. You are now well and truly hooked. Bring on the 10k!!

I have been absolutely exhausted since my outing this morning - I've had to have two enormous doses of coffee plus a slab of chocolate and I still feel like a nap. Not an option really, even with my parents around as I'm supposed to be 'doing jobs' whilst they entertain the dds.

BellaLasagne · 15/07/2007 18:11

Well done Popsy, I did mine in 35 mins today in torrential rain. Really, really wet, soaked to the caks so I was chuffed with my time.

Also raised £800 which is what really matters!

DoubleBluff · 15/07/2007 18:11

Wow Bella good for you!

popsycal · 15/07/2007 18:13

Wow bella that is fab!

BellaLasagne · 15/07/2007 18:17

Thanks

I was shouting 'Come on, come on' to myself over my MP3 player for the last 500m uphill, I must have looked a right loony as I realise now I was really loud!

glitterfairy · 15/07/2007 18:37

Well done Bella and Popsy!! Fab times and really good stuff altogether as all for charity too.

Have been moving stuff today so no running and new job tomorrow morning so wont get anything then either .

glitterfairy · 15/07/2007 18:37

Forgot to say Duchess take care and glad your cold is better.

krispie · 15/07/2007 18:47

great times pops and bella! and wow - £800 is an incredible amount to raise!

Im trying to raise £500 for nspcc for my 10k in 2 weeks, any fundraising ideas bella? ive set up a justgiving page, but friends and family aren't being very forthcoming in donating

Did 5k yesterday eve and attempting my first 10k practice run tomorrow!

Veggiemummy · 15/07/2007 19:29

well done Bella, having to do the last 500m uphill is a bit mean, so good on you for a good time in bad conditions and great fundraising.

about talking to yourself whilst training and listening to music, i was doing sprint training on the running machine at the gym once and was trying to do each distance in certain time, on one of the mile session i wanted to do it in 7mins (prebaby marathon training wouldnt have a chance now). i never actually ever did it in 7mins but this one time i missed out by just seconds. i was so annoyed and frustrated that i whispered a very bad word but as the mp3 player was very load it turned out i hadn't whispered it at all. looked around to see some very pious looking women glaring at me, and some weight lifting boys laughing

BellaLasagne · 15/07/2007 20:14

Thank-you all.

I was very lucky with my fundraising. I tapped everyone at work, and fortunately no-one else was doing it so I bagged all the sponsorship for myself. My DH also took a form to his work. With RFL you can create your own webpage and I put a lovely photo on it of me with my Mum (who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer) and that seemed to get the message over.

Good luck with your fundraising also. I found that most people were very keen to donate and most of thise who did had been affected by cancer. I was overwhelmed with how many in fact, and have heard some incredible stories. I think when it's a cause so close to so many peoples hearts the fundraising is relatively easy. I wasn't afraid to ask either, which was the other thing. I emphasised that I'd never run before and needed motivation which helped I think.

DebitheScot · 15/07/2007 20:51

Thanks to whoever it was that posted the mapmyrun link. I like it. According to that I just did 3.15 miles (just over 5km) in 32 mins. I'm very pleased with that. Esp as I was running on my own.

DebitheScot · 15/07/2007 20:52

And well done to Bella and Popsy. You both did brilliantly.

Maybe I should find myself a race to do.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/07/2007 21:21

Well done Bella and Popsy

Went out this morning. Did same route. Came back 5 mins quicker

I'll have to extend the route again I think
