Well done veggiemum, glad you had a great time.
You are right that London is more expensive thatn other tris, but when DH did it it did seem very well organised.

Haven't posted too much recently, difficult to keep up with all your posts! HAve been running a bit, 6 miles 2 or 3 times a week, but really I am more of a winter runner. My ideal would be light nights in the winter, but that's impossible!

Good to hear that you are all doing well.

Veggiemum - are you at Seaford tri in Sept? I think I said before that DH is doing it, and I will cheer you on aswell if you are there!

mamamoo · 06/08/2007 12:31

well done Veggie....I would love to do a tri...but would be impossible....I swim well and run...but (opens up closet........cannot ride a bike ....must be the only person in the world who can't......why oh why didn't my parents get me a bike when I was a kid?)

I'm following the 4 week RW 3 runs a weeks schedule for 10k...did 7mile last night (the longest I have to do)...legs like jelly today!! Nike + told me I burnt off 817 cals doing that!!! Hopefully may be a few lbs lighter when get on the scales at ww tonight!

Popsy how did you get on at your training run 5k this weekend? Always a good idea to do some races as training runs as they do make you run faster!!

speedymama · 06/08/2007 12:51

Hi

I have not posted for a while.
I ran 4 miles on Saturday and found it hardgoing. I was aiming to do six miles. I ran the 4 miles in 47 minutes but three weeks ago, I ran 5 miles in 50 minutes!

I knew I was slow on Saturday but I did not realise that I was that slow. I went running in the morning (7.30am) and was surprised at how hot it was. I think this slowed me down plus I was feeling lethargic anyway.

I'm planning to do a 2 mile run tomorrow and will concentrate on running at a faster pace.

themoon66 · 06/08/2007 12:52

mamamoo... you are not alone.... I cannot ride a bike either and there was me, thinking I was the only grown up in the world who couldn't do this simple thing.

popsycal · 06/08/2007 17:54

I forgot to update here.....I am getting distracted by blogging. Would it be rude to cut and paste it to here?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/08/2007 18:51

I'm OK with you doing cut & paste if it saves you typing it out twice. I'd go and read your blog but I'll get sucked into the rest of the site and then I'll never be off the computer!

popsycal · 06/08/2007 19:16

Yes i blame someone on here about telling me abotu realbuzz

I will type it again!

My 5k run is next wed evening......

Saturday I set out for a 4 mile run. DOn't normally take water with me but I am so glad I did as I totally underestimated how hot it was as it was quite overcast.

I was fine for the first mile but then I really started to feel it in my legs. Took the decision to have a brief walk at the 2 miles point - only a minute or so. That helped, but I needed another 1 minute walk at the 3 mile point. Then I kept going for the final mile. 4 miles in 45:00.

My legs felt like lead but it was only when I got back that i realised I had not eaten lunch (it was mid afternoon at that point!!). Hmmm. My legs hurt afterwards and I am hoping to get to the running shop tomorrow just to check out my trainers. I felt really despondent afterwards and started thinking maybe my legs just don't like running. They were sore yesterday but don't feel too bad today.

I am cross that I am not back to my pre-race for life fitness. Breathing wise I am fine - not out of breath at all after 4 miles (furthest I have ever ran!!!) but the legs are letting me down. Don't let your daughters pound the dancing and theatrical stage for 17 years, ladies!!!

Today I feel a little more positive. I have had 2 rest days. I am hoping to get out for a run tomorrow. I am only going to do one lap of my 1.7 mile 'old-faithful' route to try to restore my confidence.

I hope to make this 5K next week....but am frustrated that I don't feel at my best.

Hell - listen to me!! YOu would think I was 'somebody' yet just over 3 months ago, I had not run since I was 15 and forced to do cross country!

popsycal · 06/08/2007 19:18

Gosh - am cringing at my appalling grammar in that post

Veggiemummy · 06/08/2007 20:10

Pops is the pain mainly in your shins still?

Veggiemummy · 06/08/2007 20:13

Ming-halfway through the run yesterday i swore i would never do another triathon, but i'm happy with my result, and i do love the seaford Tri, as long as the weather isn't the same as last years. so i'm 99% sure i will be there, which day is your DH racing, usually i do the saturday and my DH does the sunday, but not sure if he is racing this year.

popsycal · 06/08/2007 20:31

Veggiemummy - no not this time. It was more the inside of my knee joint . I still can't work out whether it is bone or muscle. It hurts most when I get up in the morning and gradually eases as I get moving. I feel pretty pain free now.

When it hurts, it hurts most if I rise onto tiptoes on that leg.....

Veggiemummy · 06/08/2007 22:01

i've got a friend whose a physio so i will ask her but i think you need to get to that shoe store, or even a podiatrist, although sometimes their not much good.

popsycal · 06/08/2007 22:13

I considered a podiatrist a while back but then found the shoes I have now and appeared to be 'cured'.

Will try to get to th erunning shop tomorrow, but definitely on Saturday if I can't get there before then.

Veggiemummy · 06/08/2007 22:22

i went to a podiatrist and he told me i was an overpronator (which i already knew), and he suggested some stretches and which shoes i should buy i think they were a new balance shoe. But when i went to the run & become shop near Victoria station they suggested different shoes Asic gel Foundations and i've never looked back.

hatwoman · 07/08/2007 13:38

hello everyone. it's eons since I;'ve been on here. I've let things go since my 16 mile, but have done the odd 2 or 3 which I have found alarmingly difficult. it would seem however that I've got myself a marathon place!!!! dh is going to kill me - haven;t told him yet. really nervous about accepting it - as I don;t know how much work I'll be doing in the spring - and therefore whether realistically I'll have the time.

LittleSarah · 07/08/2007 14:58

Hey popsy, tis annoying if you feel run down but you are right when you say you have only been running for a few months! That's what I keep telling myself.

Felt pretty tired at the end of my 3.5 miles today but managed it in 35 mins so I'm pleased. Still, planning on running 4 miles on Sunday and am more than a little concerned!

LittleSarah · 07/08/2007 14:58

hatwoman - great news on your marathon place! That's what I aiming for.

sorkycake · 07/08/2007 21:55

Can I join you?
I had very good intentions after my ds2 was born and went back to running 3 milers when he was 24 days old, but since then, I've done very little except scoff biscuits. As a result I now weigh 1stone over my ideal weight and half stone over acceptable weight.
I did Nell McAndrews Ultimate challenge dvd today and sourced a 4.5 mile route at my parents house so when I visit 1/7 I can go running. Otherwise I'm going to be out at 6.30am, or after 7.30pm.
How long does it take to lose the weight? I'm still bf'ing too, if that makes any difference. He's 6mo btw

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/08/2007 22:16

Hi Sorky, I find that fitting in the running around small children is harder than doing the actual exercise, but if you can get back into the habit, that's half the battle won. I've been running again for about 3months, I'm now doing 5k once or twice a week and a couple of short, fast miles. I've lost nearly a stone but could lose another. I have changed shape though - I didn't realise quite how low my bottom had got!! So I'm enjoying a lot of positive effects. I've no idea how the b/f will affect you - I ate my way through years of b/f without doing very much exercise (and it shows)

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2007 00:00

Hi Sorky i lost loads of weight between month 7-9 of bf'ing, my DS wasnt much of an eater at that stage so i think depended a lot on my milk, it was great but only a small respite as it all came back on again and more after a year.

keep going though if you can even the once a week run will help.

Pidge · 08/08/2007 20:41

Quick one from me - have been forced to have another month off due to combination of work, then fluey bug, then tonsillitis and glands infection! So not looking good for my half marathon in September. We're off for a fortnight in France in a couple of days so I will at least pack my trainers and see if I can go for a leg stretch whilst I'm there.

Happy running in the meantime ... !

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2007 22:01

au revoir Pidge, hope the weather is amazing for you and you get a much needed rest.

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2007 09:29

right i had a good but slightly painful yoga session last night so now it is time to get back to some training, i'm going to do a 5km time trial tonight, will warm up for a couple of KM's then see how fast i can run a 5km, could be good news or i could end up limping home. It's the first run since sundays Tri, and that run was quite slow.

Pidge · 09/08/2007 09:32

Veggiemummy - just avoiding work on my last day in the office before hols, so have trawled back through all the messages I missed and caught up with your tri exploits. Congratulations - brilliant to get under 3 hours. I am suitably impressed!

LittleSarah · 10/08/2007 14:37

Hope your run went well VM. I had a terrible run on Thursday, only 3 miles but was totally knackered in the last fifteen minutes, kept thinking, I want to stop, I could stop, I could stop anytime. But I didn't though. I was faster than usual so think the prob was a I pushed too hard then hit a big hill and after that I was destroyed.

Oh well, hopefully my four miles on Sunday will go better.
