Give me your constipation remedies

Just that really!

I can't go and I'm fed up. I've suffered with chronic constipation but at the moment it's really bad. I'm now having sharp pains in my left side too.

I have laxido but it's not cutting it, trying to eat more broccoli, veg etc.

Please give me your tips to try, before I end up exploding (maybe that would be a good thing though Grin)

A large, strong coffee and a smoothie.

Jemimapuddleduk · 20/11/2018 15:14

I make smoothies with frozen spinach, banana, frozen berries, almonds and coconut water.

Fairylea · 20/11/2018 15:15

Bowl of tinned prunes eaten warm with custard. Sounds odd but it’s actually really nice!

Lots and lots of orange juice.

Mondrian · 20/11/2018 15:16

OO, if you can have a couple of table spoons or use a generous amount with salad. Beer is also good as is pomegranate juice but perhaps mix with sugar if you suffer from lowish blood pressure (PJ).

DianaT1969 · 20/11/2018 15:17

Celeriac. Can be explosive within an hour of eating it!

SunnySomer · 20/11/2018 15:17

Warm water, linseeds, vigorous exercise (v brisk walking), strong coffee - or all of these

DianaT1969 · 20/11/2018 15:19

Also moving a lot. Are you doing that? Brisk walk followed by the sort of exercise you do circuit training or fluid yoga type movements.

AnnieOH1 · 20/11/2018 15:26

Have you tried taking the laxido at impaction levels? 8 I think at a time and even then may take a couple days. I would be concerned about eating too much hoping it'll work because that might well end up causing a further blockage.

I would try and keep a diary too going forward to remember what works to keep your bowels moving but also what works against you iyswim.

Keep your fluid levels high, and I would make sure to get some ORS or Diaralyte rehydration products for afterwards iyswim.

Good luck!

Lots and lots of water - more than you think you can ever absorb: failsafe remedy if a black coffee hasn't worked. Or a whole packet of the Fruitella sugar-free foams. But when all else fails - a good 5 litres of water gets it moving. Flowers - it's miserable being bunged up.

Maverick66 · 20/11/2018 15:35

Plenty of fluids.
Walking.
A ripe pear morning and evening.

Kittykat93 · 20/11/2018 17:18

Thank you so much everyone, loads of things on here I haven't heard of before so will be trying. Wish me luck Grin

Live plain yogurt with prunes. Honey to sweeten

LaCerbiatta · 20/11/2018 18:01

Cavolo nero and lots of prunes and oranges. That's what works for me!

I'm a bit cynical of the orange juice and banana smoothie suggestions, they would have the opposite effect on me!

NanTheWiser · 20/11/2018 18:07

I take Inulin also available from Amazon - it is good for the gut, and very gentle. You can add to drinks, soup or yoghurt, and helps to make it easier to go.

Bombaybunty · 20/11/2018 18:11

Prune juice works for me.

Onec things are "sorted" try eating an Activia yoghurt every day. Seems to keep things moving!

MountainPeakGeek · 20/11/2018 18:12

Kiwi fruit...

panago · 20/11/2018 18:17

Drink a cup of plain boiled (hot) water

lovesugarfreejelly63 · 20/11/2018 18:19

Prune juice every time.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/11/2018 18:25

I take inulin too, I stir a teaspoonful into each of my first three hot drinks of the day. It’s soluble fiber made from celeriac and it doesn’t taste of anything.

xRoyalty · 20/11/2018 18:30

Prune juice
Andrews
Smile

Heartofglass21 · 20/11/2018 18:34

An entire packet of Aldi sugar free lemon sherbet sweets.

BlankTimes · 20/11/2018 18:44

Sugar, lots of it all in one go, it's okay if it's used as a medicine occasionally.

Two large chocolate brownies with chocolate topping or icing and loads of chocolate sauce. I'd not get chance to eat all that before I had to fly.

Had to smile at the prunes and custard, that's what my granny would have used.

After it's worked, then start using healthier foods like a selection of, fruit, fibre and good gut bacteria in your daily diet.

Pythonesque · 20/11/2018 18:49

The laxido should soften things and give bulk; if you're completely blocked I'd increase the dose every few days. Assuming you've taken a few days of it already without improvement, then what you may want/need to add is something stimulant such as the prunes (or other fruit). Absolutely agree about lots more water too.

Hope you feel better soon.

muststoplurking · 20/11/2018 18:50

A brisk walk and cup of coffee.

beeefcake · 20/11/2018 19:05

Coffee and a bit of exercise
