Give me your constipation remedies

Just that really!

I can't go and I'm fed up. I've suffered with chronic constipation but at the moment it's really bad. I'm now having sharp pains in my left side too.

I have laxido but it's not cutting it, trying to eat more broccoli, veg etc.

Please give me your tips to try, before I end up exploding (maybe that would be a good thing though Grin)

Sweeties and bars with the -ol sweeteners (sorbitol family), psyllium husks, black coffee, prunes and molasses

Moonflower12 · 20/11/2018 20:57

A hot chocolate made with milk, soon sorts me out.
Lots of sympathy though- it's horrible being bunged up.

Kittykat93 · 20/11/2018 21:26

I must say I'm loving the suggestions of chocolate!!!! I'll definitely be trying that one

Thanks all again x

Go for a browse in a bookshop. Seriously.

Otherwise, apples and caffeine.

When you go, make sure your knees are higher than your arse and have a good book.

3luckystars · 20/11/2018 21:31

pears

Drink as much water as you can every day and take fybogel for a few weeks. It's just fibre but YOU NEED TO DRINK TWO OR THREE LITRES OF WATER A DAY WITH IT or you will get headaches.

Bouchie · 20/11/2018 21:34

acupuncture works well and lots of the food suggestions above.

Lucylugs · 20/11/2018 21:36

Old fashioned Milk of magnesia.

Longdistance · 20/11/2018 21:39

A long walk to get those bowels moving. Drinking lots of water on the way.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 21:40

You might be at the stage where you need to tackle it from the other end first. Laxative suppositories to cleat it out, and then follow the tips above for getting more fibre in your diet and drinking more water.

kayakingmum · 20/11/2018 21:42

Dried apricots.

6onTheHappyFarm · 20/11/2018 21:42

Exercise, pure orange juice, kefir (yoghurt type thing).

SallyWD · 20/11/2018 21:49

All Bran. A big bowl every day with plenty of watee

Spea28 · 20/11/2018 21:51

Lactulose works wonders. Available over the counter cheaper than a prescription..... trust me, it's good stuff Wink

Cuzcothellama · 20/11/2018 21:51

Kiwis! If i eat kiwis, it's a guaranteed bm the next day!

christmaschristmaschristmas · 20/11/2018 21:53

Up your laxido - you can take up to 8 sachets a day. That really should work.

I would also take a couple of senokot.

Make sure you drink lots (2-3 litres) of water. Cut the fibre, now is not the time.

Ollivander84 · 20/11/2018 21:56

Tinned pears in juice (have the juice too)
Walking
Coffee
A cig

ivykaty44 · 20/11/2018 21:58

Fibre is the key to making good 💩 with a point on the end that comes out easily

Unsulphured apricots dried are wonderful for getting things moving along, 6/7 per day with some kale, carrots and cauliflower with an evening meal, lunch if vegetable soup and a high fibre breakfast

Avoid eggs

NoelGallaghersEyebrows · 20/11/2018 21:58

Milk of Magnesia. It's bloody amazing.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/11/2018 22:02

A bar of often licqorice and a couple of dried apricots. I ate these as couple of snacks one day last week and they had a rather surprising result Grin

OrigamiZoo · 20/11/2018 22:07

@NoelGallaghersEyebrows

Now I realise why I was given Milk of Magnesia as a child! Grin

Labradoodliedoodoo · 20/11/2018 22:10

Prunes water coffee

shouldidoitspoilt · 20/11/2018 22:11

Magnesium citrate
Suppository of glycerin

itsthemenopausenotme · 20/11/2018 22:19

Recently had the same problem. I ate tinned pears with porridge made with water, ate a teaspoon of linseed followed by a glass of water, ate grapes, hummus, drank coffee, took Dulcoease 3 times a day, drank a LOT of water (but be aware you can drink too much). I ate nothing but all that and other veg/ fruit. The next day i had awful stomach cramps and then it all came out!

Kittykat93 · 20/11/2018 22:21

Okay some of these suggestions sound gross interesting Grin

But I'm willing to try..I'll be making a trip to Morrison's tomorrow for some ingredients

I started taking a high dose probiotic before bed every night to try and reset my gut flora. An unexpected side effect has been that I am now very regular, whereas before I regularly suffered with constipation.
