Give me your constipation remedies

Just that really!

I can't go and I'm fed up. I've suffered with chronic constipation but at the moment it's really bad. I'm now having sharp pains in my left side too.

I have laxido but it's not cutting it, trying to eat more broccoli, veg etc.

Please give me your tips to try, before I end up exploding (maybe that would be a good thing though Grin)

BOOKSHOP!!!!

Before you spend a load of money on all this stuff suggested, go for a nice relaxing browse in a bookshop that has a loo. Maybe eat an apple on the way. My experience tells me there's a very good chance this will work, it'll cost you no more than the apple and you can treat yourself to a nice book afterwards.

RiverTam · 21/11/2018 08:39

or - bit more controversial - have a cigarette.

CartwheelCath · 21/11/2018 08:42

Tinned pears!

christmaschristmaschristmas · 21/11/2018 14:01

A lot of these suggestions will work if you're a little bunged up but not if you're seriously constipated - laxatives only then!!

If you add more fibre when you're already constipating, things will get more 'stuck'.

ivykaty44 · 21/11/2018 14:44

Why?

JeanMichelBisquiat · 21/11/2018 14:48

OP, just to check, if it's long-term, have you been to the GP to rule out any underlying problems?

christmaschristmaschristmas · 21/11/2018 14:48

@ivykaty44 - It depends how bad the constipation is. If it is bad this advice follows - when you have a blockage in your colon that has got really solid adding fibre will only bulk this out further and make it more difficult to pass.

The OP wants to loosen this blockage and liquidify it, so needs stool softeners like laxido and a stimulant laxative like senokot.

After this has been sorted op should up her fibre.

Baked beans on wholemeal toast.

ivykaty44 · 21/11/2018 14:50

Cheers Christmas 🎄 makes sense

PhilomenaButterfly · 21/11/2018 14:51

I'll just qualify that by saying that I had chronic constipation during pregnancy, and it was the only thing that shifted it.

user1471465525 · 21/11/2018 21:49

Drinking 5 litres of water a day is excessive and can lead to electrolyte imbalance unless you live in the dessert and doing extreme exercises. Two or three is fine.Try big bowl of porridge with flaxseed, blueberries and an espresso .That will get things movingly,

Comenext · 21/11/2018 22:12

Eat a fresh pear for breakfast and another one just before bed

Stoppedat1 · 21/11/2018 22:36

Can someone explain the bookshop thing to me please? Confused

RiverTam · 22/11/2018 08:37

ah, that's me. Basically, when I'm browsing in a bookshop it makes me so very relaxed that my bowels loosen up. Couple that with eating an apple (or pear, as others have suggested) and Bob's your uncle.

It's also happened on occasion have an evening meander round a quiet supermarket, but bookshops and libraries are your best bet.

Heartofglass21 · 22/11/2018 13:31

Do bookshops have toilets for customers to use though?

PhilomenaButterfly · 22/11/2018 13:52

Similar to Tam's idea, have breakfast in your supermarket café, then do the food shop. Halfway round, you'll need to go. Leave your trolley with the security guard, as the entrance to the toilets is always alarmed.

RiverTam · 22/11/2018 13:52

yes, lots of them do., especially if they have a cafe attached. Ditto libraries.

I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise!

MaMisled · 22/11/2018 13:54

Punnet of plums!

JeanMichelBisquiat · 22/11/2018 14:08

It's big in Japan! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariko_Aoki_phenomenon

DH and all his family have this - me and DCs don't!

JeanMichelBisquiat · 22/11/2018 14:09

Sorry - that's a link to needing a poo in bookshops - I realised it looked as if it could be some weird Japanese constipation fetish website ;-)

Kittykat93 · 22/11/2018 14:15

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions.

Live birth poo thread update: I've been!

I feel like a new woman. And I managed to avoid having to do it in a bookshop, was saving that as my last resort.

Thank you all again for helping me shit. Thanks

Download the yoga mpnkey app. Download the sequence for digestive problems. Do sequence.

redexpat · 22/11/2018 14:25

Oh youve been! And yes the japanese book poo thing works a treat. Best in second hand bookshops rather than waterstones.

PhilomenaButterfly · 22/11/2018 14:28

And I managed to avoid having to do it in a bookshop

Or a supermarket? 😂
