Where to arrange a circumcision

dawnharvey68 · 25/02/2007 21:49

If we have a boy, we plan on having him circumcised. But it's proving exceedingly difficult finding someone to do it where we live.
My husband was born in the USA where pretty much all boys are circumcised routinely before they leave the hospital and it seems strange here that it is so difficult to arrange such a simple thing.
I'd be interested to hear if others found it as difficult.
It seems quite a common problem in the UK, finding someone who will perform a newborn circumcision, so I a support group for those trying to sort it out:
health.groups.yahoo.com/group/babycircuk/
All I have been able to find so far is that if you are in the south of England/London area, you are particularly well served:
Luton: www.circumcision-agency.com/
London: www.circumcisions.co.uk/
London: www.theportlandhospital.com/
London: www.samedaydoctor.co.uk/links.aspx
Reading: www.circumcision-uk.com/
UK Mohels: www.lubavitchuk.com/services/religious/mohellist.shtml
www.mohel-circumcision.co.uk/
www.londoncircumcision.co.uk/
plus probably others that would appear on a search.
Does anyone know of anyone else that will perform them?

Anyway, the problem will be solved if you have a baby girl

Or will it ??????????????

expatinscotland · 25/02/2007 23:58

Yes, dammit! From now on, whenever anyone starts a thread, make sure you tell everyone exactly how it needs to go because you want it to, and anything else is just being unsupportive and disrespectful.

You pit of vipers make 'Snakes on a Plane' look like child's play.

SaucyMoo · 25/02/2007 23:59

Heres a little something for you sceptics..
From the medical point of view, circumcision has many benefits for man?s health and personal hygiene.

First, circumcision helps the penis remain clean. Microorganisms flourish in the warm, moist area under the foreskin, leading to a foul odor and infection.

Second, circumcision reduces the possibility of the penis becoming infected with syphilis, especially since the foreskin is the place where the germ breeds.

Third, the foreskin is most likely to be exposed to inflammation due to repeated friction, especially during sexual intercourse.

Fourth, it has been proved that circumcision (especially during the first five years of life) also reduces the incidence of penile cancer.

Fifth, circumcision helps man prolong the period of erection. This is because the nerves related to sexual stimulation are mostly located at the head of the penis. If the foreskin is present, it would prevent the penis' head from constant touch with other materials, which makes the penis sensitive to any kind of touch. When the foreskin is removed, the head of the penis becomes less sensitive due to its repeated friction against clothing.

They don't do that do they?

I once watched a programme of female circumcision & those poor girls were screaming for their lives

Is it right that some religions should promote this cruel procedure as a way of life?

Resource. Support. Health and hygeine.

Yes, my psychic abilities are clicking in.

I sense American vibes here.

Yes.

In that case, showers of pink baby dust to you.

Anyway, I am not going to get drawn any further into a debate on the subject. I get the impression that these ascerbic comments are designed purely to intimidate anyone who has anything pertinent to the point of the thread from posting.

Oh, yes, Saucy, that's so convinced me!

I mean, DH isn't circumcised and he's a walking STD with erectile dysfunction. That explains it all!

And my dad. He's not circumcised, either. I'm surprised I'm even here. He should have died of syphilis long before I was even a gleam in his eye.

expatinscotland · 26/02/2007 00:02

That's just it, dawn. Everyone's out to get you because they secretly wish they'd mutilated their sons' genitals for cosmetic reasons.

Forgive me if I don't shorten your name.

We normally do this for posters we know and love or in some cases........ like.

Yours is an interesting first post.

Mine was about the gym.

Others post re Lemon Drizzle cake.

Or BLW..................

This is an emotive subject, this is a discussion forum.

If this Modus Operandi does not appeal to you, suggest you take full page in the Times.

Oh hold on a minute.................

That would cost money..........

Cynical........Me

"First, circumcision helps the penis remain clean. Microorganisms flourish in the warm, moist area under the foreskin, leading to a foul odor and infection"

WASHING HELPS TOO

"Second, circumcision reduces the possibility of the penis becoming infected with syphilis, especially since the foreskin is the place where the germ breeds."

CONDOMS

SherlockLGJ · 26/02/2007 00:04

Saucy moo

Are you DHarveys agent ??

katelyle · 26/02/2007 00:05

Can somebody explain to me why God would create a foreskin just for the purpose of having it cut off 8 days after birth? Is it useful in some way for those early days and then not? What's going on herer?

expatinscotland · 26/02/2007 00:06

God doesn't know what he's doing. I mean, he made women and all that.

fireflyfairy2 · 26/02/2007 00:06

Right, I'm off to bed.

Hopefully Dh won't have a foul odour, or infection, & hopefully we won't have too much friction & just maybe he will be able to last long enough for me..... that's if he doesn't die of syphillis before I am satisfied

Night ladies... & others

expatinscotland · 26/02/2007 00:07

Night, FF2.

I find DH's foreskin provides very pleasant friction during intercourse. Let's just say I'm a convert!

SherlockLGJ · 26/02/2007 00:07

FF2

SaucyMoo · 26/02/2007 00:07

Expat-im not trying to convert you-lol! just giving reasons as to why people may do it?

I can only speak about islam, so when things were prescribed it was for all times and all regions-when ppl didnt have condoms-and some people still dont (some developing countries), where people arent educated about hygene etc. Anyway this is a silly arguement and its making me laugh now...leave poor dawn alone.your all ganging up on her!

No im not anyones agent!

I think some of you are being a little patronising/immature/ignorant about this whole thing...but i guess thats what makes MN fun right?

Btw the whole 'why did god create it' arguement is a bit silly as it can be said about a lot of things, like pubic hair, nails etc etc
