Where to arrange a circumcision

If we have a boy, we plan on having him circumcised. But it's proving exceedingly difficult finding someone to do it where we live.
My husband was born in the USA where pretty much all boys are circumcised routinely before they leave the hospital and it seems strange here that it is so difficult to arrange such a simple thing.
I'd be interested to hear if others found it as difficult.
It seems quite a common problem in the UK, finding someone who will perform a newborn circumcision, so I a support group for those trying to sort it out:
health.groups.yahoo.com/group/babycircuk/
All I have been able to find so far is that if you are in the south of England/London area, you are particularly well served:
Luton: www.circumcision-agency.com/
London: www.circumcisions.co.uk/
London: www.theportlandhospital.com/
London: www.samedaydoctor.co.uk/links.aspx
Reading: www.circumcision-uk.com/
UK Mohels: www.lubavitchuk.com/services/religious/mohellist.shtml
www.mohel-circumcision.co.uk/
www.londoncircumcision.co.uk/
plus probably others that would appear on a search.
Does anyone know of anyone else that will perform them?

I wasn't using it as an excuse - I didn't state that was why I had DS circumscised. What I am saying is that they are now finding that circumscision can prevent the spread of HIV - merely hilighing a positive aspect of it and that article did not see it as mutilation etc. Agree with condoms, not sleeping around etc but hardly seems to be working does it!! That's going off on a whole other topic though...I did it as an act of faith - why is that so hard for people to accept?

suedonim · 25/02/2007 22:57

For me, an act of faith is something you do for yourself. Imo, circumcision is an act of faith on someone else's behalf.

Nikki76 · 25/02/2007 23:01

Yes, I do see your point. However, the act of faith as a Muslim, extends to your children and ensuring them the best possible start on the path to Islam and circumscision, for a boy is the start of that path. I wouldn't be doing my duty as a Muslim parent if I didn't have him circumscised....

This topic could go on forever couldn't it

Littlelapin

Not exactly sure why more common in the states - from what I've heard, its a hygiene thing over there, but I could of course, be wrong, maybe cosmetic also....

dawnharvey68 · 25/02/2007 23:18

This thread is supposed to be a resource for those wanting to have it done. It's a shame it has been flooded by comments from those against it. The thread was NOT created to debate the issue and it would be nice if that was respected.

This is an inernet forum.

As such we discuss things, did you misunderstand the basis on which MN is formed ??

SaucyMoo · 25/02/2007 23:20

Jeez, just read this thread now, being circumcised is so much more hygenic than not. Np-one can argue with that surely.

SaucyMoo · 25/02/2007 23:24

This is a thread about where to get circumcised not for people to start giving their opinion about how barbaric they think it is! If you want to slag it off, make the most of MN and start another thread!

Actually, if I may be so bold, the first post on this thread seemed to be advertising services of places circumcision is available.

Advertising. That's all it was about.

Hi my son was circumcised in Manchester and a couple had actually travelled from Scotland in order to have their son circumcised at the same place.
Didn't realize circumcision was so controversial

I can guarantee that whilst conversation will be loud, and argumentative, it will not be deafening

SaucyMoo · 25/02/2007 23:31

Well in london you dont need to advertise, my HV gave me the number for a docter in the local area who is does it.

ezridax · 25/02/2007 23:32

Suggest the same venue.........we need to lay the ghost to rest.

fireflyfairy2 · 25/02/2007 23:33

So have you two had it done on your sons for faith reasons also? Or medical?

SherlockLGJ · 25/02/2007 23:35

Blue Rowan border collie..... Mad as anything.

Has an opinion on everything, despite never having had any pups.

expatinscotland · 25/02/2007 23:35

Good point, FF2.

Circumcision used to be performed routinely in N. America because of out-dated and downright silly ideas about 'cleanliness'.

Fortunately, it's no longer automatic.

Although a lot of truly silly men still want to have their sons' genitals mutilated so they'll look like Dad.

If they were born with a different hair colour would they dye it? If their eyes were a different colour would they force them to wear coloured contacts?

Pitiful argument for this procedure being performed for strictly cosmetic reasons.
