DD's blood test results are back and i have to see the doc....Why ???

From what i can remember if they come back clear you don't need an appointment.
IThe receptionist just looked on the compouter for the results and then said that i needed to make an appointment. It's not until Monday at 4.40pm.

This can't be good can it ??

Nursery where very concerned about her again today. They said she was exceptionally tired, pale and quiet, and didn't eat any of her dinner.
She does looke really tired today and yesterday i noticed that when she had a poo it was a really pale colour.
She has been playing up at bedtime since it's be lighter at night but even so i can't see why she would be sooo tired.

I'm getting very worried now. I really thought the blood tests would come back clear.

is it too late to ring docs and demand to see someone today? our docs shuts at 6pm. i dont think its fair for them to make you wait till mon.

Well i did ask when i was there if there was no way i could see someone today, but her g.p isn't there today

Ring and say you just can't wait.I am a kidney patient and have had to wait several times and it's agonising but even worse when it is your child-ring now and lay it on thick if need be

I've just read this and I'm not sure why your dd had the blood tests done but could it be Coeliac disease? this is a gluten intolerance and one of the symptoms is pale, smelly poo! Also lack of energy and pale appearance.

I phoned for my blood results and normally they say everything is fine. The receptionist said I had to see the doctor so I knew there was something wrong. If I were you I wouldn't wait until Monday. See someone else. Anyone who can interpret the results even if it's not a proper consultation. Just so you are not thinking the worst all weekend. Harass them, it's the only way.

Honeypie - She had the blood tests because nursery alerted me to the fact that she was extremely lethargic all the time and quite spaced out alot.
I thought coeliac disease was picked up shortly after birth though ?? She is 4

agree. any doc could give you the results today and then maybe you could have a follow up app with her gp on mon if nessacery.

Oh i don't know aht to do, she's just about to eat her tea. I don't really want to disturb her, it will be the first thing she's eatan properly all day.

Coeliac disease can be picked up at any time. I have had it since 10 months and my dd has had it since 18 months but can crop up at any time. She developed normally 'til then and then just 'gave up'. Floppy all the time, no attempt to talk, laugh or play - sound at all familiar?

Agree with Flip - phone them quick. Put your mind at rest - even if the result could be something that bothers you, I personally would find the weekend hell not knowing. Feed her crap that she likes on the journey - it's only one supper gone wrong.

Hmm bits of it certainly sound familiar. She will still have a laugh and behave like a nutter sometimes though. Just seems like her get up and go, has gone some days.

Nutty, if it is Coeliac disease she could develop it at any age, so that is a definite possibility. Clearly something is not quite right, but the only thing I can say is that if it was anything at all bad, that needed urgent treatment, they wouldn't be leaving it until Monday. I agree it's awful to make you wait, but I honestly think it's a good sign in some ways. At least things will get sorted now, and I would bet that some of her behaviour is down to feeling rotten.

Just found this on the web, about coeliac disease:

In childhood the symptoms do not appear until gluten-containing foods are introduced into the diet. First symptoms usually include becoming irritable and miserable, with a poor appetite and failure to gain weight. Stools (bowel motions) can become pale, bulky and smell nasty. Some children start with vomiting and diarrhoea, so they are often given the wrong diagnosis of 'gastroenteritis'. The stomach may become swollen, and the muscles of the arms and legs become wasted and thin.

Earlier on they confirm that it can be diagnosed at any age.

Well she is very irritable, and miserable but she doesn't always have pale stools. Very windy child though. Her appetite has never been brilliant, and she does have a bit of a belly but not especially thin arms and legs.

I suppose there are any number of things it could be.

Have just rung and they cannot get her in unless i se the locum which would be a waste of time as i don't trust him to tell me the time let alone whats wrong with Dd.

Anyway if i went now i'd have to take all the kids with me. On monday my mom can have them.

bless you guys, one thing after another, they are just being safe, it may be something easily fixed but that they need to explain carefully, I got this when I had a blood test and it was only to comfirm immunity to something, they could have told me over the phone but refused.
Try not to panic but so unfair to leave you over the weekend

Well try not to worry. The receptionist at our practises uses different variations for results. See doctor routine or can you come in today. So if you're seeing the doctor routinely then it can't be anything they would want treating urgently.

If it helps at all, nutty, when I was diagnosed with a serious blood problem from a blood test, my gp came to my house on a Saturday morning, having got the test results back an hour earlier. I know that was 20 years ago, but I still think that anything badly wrong is still flagged in bright red and acted on very quickly. That has been my experience, even recently. If your surgery wants you to wait til Monday, it doesn't sound like anything can be seriously wrong. Having said that I understand your anxiety. Do you think it could be anaemia? Although I seem to remeber that being discussed on a different thread about this. Hope your dd is better soon, though.

It could be anemia i suppose but thb honest i'd be surpriused as her diet isn't to bad even though she doesn't eat much. The g.p didn't seemto think she'd be anemiac.

The bloods were tested for Anemia, hypothyroidism and her liver, kidneys and glucose elvels were done to.
