From what i can remember if they come back clear you don't need an appointment.
IThe receptionist just looked on the compouter for the results and then said that i needed to make an appointment. It's not until Monday at 4.40pm.

This can't be good can it ??

Nursery where very concerned about her again today. They said she was exceptionally tired, pale and quiet, and didn't eat any of her dinner.
She does looke really tired today and yesterday i noticed that when she had a poo it was a really pale colour.
She has been playing up at bedtime since it's be lighter at night but even so i can't see why she would be sooo tired.

I'm getting very worried now. I really thought the blood tests would come back clear.

Been through this Nutty ... exactly the same thing happened to me. DS2 kept getting loads and loads of viruses, so GP checked him over and said she wanted a blood test done to check his immune system, and mentioned in passing she didn't think he was anaemic. At the end of the week surgery phoned to say his results were back, but I had to make an appt with GP to 'discuss them'. I worried myself silly about it all weekend ... In the end there was no problem at all with the results, but his haemoglobin was a bit low (despite having good diet) and she wanted to prescribe him some iron! Grrrrr.... I'd worried all weekend over nothing.

Anyway - I know you and nursery have had concerns about her health and wellbeing - but the results could be no more than this. I know it's hard not to spend the weekend worrying - but do try not to ... Concentrate on celebrating your house instead

I have thyrotoxicosis which is the other end of hypothyroidism. My symptoms are weight loss, unable to sleep, panicky, raised heart rate and a big appetite. So I guess hypothyroidism would be the complete opposite. It's easily treated but both are equally as debilitating. Normal thyroid levels are between 13-20. Mine tested at 36 ten days ago. At it's peak it's reached 84 and I was sleeping for just two hours a night and couldn't go out because of the panic attacks.

Jimjams · 07/05/2004 19:58

could well be coeliac (floaty poos as well). My son's poos went very pale a few months ago- I aksed his nutritionist about it (knew it wasn't coeliac in his case as he's been on a gluten free diet for 3 years now)- and he said that pale poos just indicated a problem with fat digestion. In my son's case he thought maybe there was a problem with bile production.

Jimjams · 07/05/2004 19:59

agree with everyone else - if it was very serious they wouldn't leave it until Monday. Even in pregnancy when my platelets dropped (hardly life threatening- lots of people have this) they wanted to see me that afternoon. So try not to worry.

Nutcracker · 07/05/2004 21:11

Right, o.k thanks for the reasurrance. I think it just shocked me becuase i was sure they would say they had all come back clear.

I will be taking the note book that nursery have been keeping to show the doc. There is one more incident of her seeming to be in a trance so the doc may refer her to be checked for epilepsy.

Just hope it's not too bad, what ever it is.

I suspect that the blood tests might have picked up something minor, but the receptionist isn't allowed to discuss the results with you. They aren't medically trained and could give the wrong information or worry people just by the way they tell you, so they are probably banned from telling you anything.

I'm sure that, if it were serious, they would have had you come in there and then. It's dreadfully bad luck that the results came in on a Friday so that you have the weekend to worry about it, but I'm confident it will be fine on Monday.

Nutcracker · 08/05/2004 15:37

Well monday can't come quck enough really. Today dd has been very quiet again and hardley eatan a thing. She just fell asleep on the settee (she stopped having an afternoon nap about 2 years ago).
She just seems sooo tired and fed up.

Freckle · 08/05/2004 16:10

Oh bless. You must be going through tortures.

Can you organise your weekend so that you spend it cuddled up on a sofa with videos, etc.? It will make her feel better and give you some one-to-one time with no need for any energy to be expended.

Nutcracker · 08/05/2004 16:14

Well we're not planning on doing much tommorow so thats probably what we'll do.
My brothers are coming over for a takeaway tonight which will cheer dd up cos she loves to see them.

Well today isn't getting off to a very good start with Dd. She got up this morning and asked for toast for brekkie. I gave it to her and she just sat and stared at it. After finally eating a tiny bit, she was sick. I have kept her off nursery just incase she's sick again and so i can generally keep an eye on her.
All weekend she's been very lethargic and hardly eaten a thing.
She is now slumped on the sofa watching cbeebies and will probably stay there for the rest of the day. Oh and she's also bitten one of her toe nails and it's all swollen and red now

I can't wait to get her to the docs.

Awww sorry to hear DD isn't too good. What time do you go to the docs?

maomao · 10/05/2004 09:36

Sorry to hear about your poor dd, nutty.

I'll check in later this afternoon to see how it went. No chance they could see you any earlier?

Hulababy · 10/05/2004 09:39

Hope everything goes well at doctors

libb · 10/05/2004 09:39

Good luck Nutcracker, hope the visit is just a procedure. I'll be thinking of you x

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 09:51

Appointment is at 5.40. I was going to ring up and try to get it erlier but dp really wants to go too, and he can't get out of work any earlier than that.

Have just been reading up on coeliac disease and dd does have an alarming amount of the symptoms for it. If the g.p doesn't suggest it as a cause of her probs, should I ?? I don't want to look like i'm trying to tell her her job, but her symptoms to seem to fit.

OP posts:
coppertop · 10/05/2004 09:51

Good luck, Nutty. xx

Freckle · 10/05/2004 10:01

I don't think there's any harm in flagging up a possibility to the gp. There may be a myriad of conditions which have the same symptoms and perhaps coeliac disease is one which the gp doesn't consider immediately. If you raise it, at the very least she can put your mind at rest.

Good luck. Hope it's nothing too serious.

juniper68 · 10/05/2004 10:02

Can you take/copy the article nutty? My GP is always open to reading things.
It's your daughter so you have a right to fight for information on her health

(((((Mega hugs))))) to you and her xxxxxxxx

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 10:05

Didn't think of that J68, i will do that if i can get the bloody printer to work properly.

I had never considered it before because i thought it was only diagnosed in babies not older children.

OP posts:
Honeypie · 10/05/2004 11:52

Good luck this afternoon. If she has anaemia then this would add to the possibility of coeliac disease and they can then do a further blood test although it is not 100% accurate. The only way to diagnose it for sure is with an endoscopy. As myself and my dd have it I always assume that anyone with these type of symptoms has it!! Let me know if it looks that way and you want any help with diet.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 11:58

Thanks Honeypie i will you know.
I have looked at lots of possible things it could be, but coeliac was the only one that ticked nearly all of the boxes iykwim.

Right we're back and i'm not sure i'm any the wiser but anyhow.
Her thyroid, kidneys and liver are all clear, as are her glucose levels.
However her iron level was slightly low and the doc said it gets tested in different parts or something, and that it wasn't that she doesn't have enough iron in her body, but that maybe are reserves are a bit low.
There was also a problem with her liver test. Apparently they several enzymes and two of them were low.
She said that neither thing points to anything in particular but as it has been going on for a while it obviously needs investigating so she is reffering her to a peadiatrician for further investigation (another blood test too ).

So thats that, i'm still confused and feeling gulity that i probably haven't been giving her the right stuff to eat and that i should of noticed sooner that something was up, but anyway at least it's on the way to being sorted.
Think we'll have a bit of a long wait for an appointment though.

Sorry it was so inconclusive but hopefully you are at least on the way to finding the root cause. Hope you get your referral soon.
