From what i can remember if they come back clear you don't need an appointment.
IThe receptionist just looked on the compouter for the results and then said that i needed to make an appointment. It's not until Monday at 4.40pm.

This can't be good can it ??

Nursery where very concerned about her again today. They said she was exceptionally tired, pale and quiet, and didn't eat any of her dinner.
She does looke really tired today and yesterday i noticed that when she had a poo it was a really pale colour.
She has been playing up at bedtime since it's be lighter at night but even so i can't see why she would be sooo tired.

I'm getting very worried now. I really thought the blood tests would come back clear.

Haven't got a clue what the liver does actually, well i do but not sure what she means by low enzyme results. Anyone know anything about the liver ???

katierocket · 10/05/2004 17:54

don't feel guilty nutty, you've done nothing wrong

some liver info

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 18:22

Thanks for that Katie. Was going to do a search myself but not sure i want to iykwim. I want to know, but i don't.
I was really surprised tbh. I had told mysef to perhaps expect the iron thingy or the thyroid but wasn't prepared for the liver results. In fact i'd almost forgotten that they were checking her liver.
Completely forgot to mention Coeliacs, because as usual i just rambled on about the same thing over and over again.

I'm sorry that you have got more waiting especially if you dd is really not herself at all. I do know what it's like as my dd was similar while she was waiting for her diagnosis. Do you think it may be worth pursuing the coeliac enquiry especially if her iron is low.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 19:44

TBH i don't think the g.p will listen to anything until i've seen the peadiatrician. I suppose it would be worth finding out as much as i can about it and then mentioning it to them instead.

Does the liver have anything to do with coeliacs ???

Just bumping this up to see if anyone has any ideas

When DS1 had pneumonia, one of his liver tests was sky high which indicated an infection of some sort - that's my only experience with blood tests and the liver.

Sorry you didn't get a clear answer from your GP.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 21:47

Thanks Soupy. I think she may of said high not low. I think she said that they were slightly high which on it's own is no problem but because of the low iron count and other stuff she thinks in needs looking at.

It's going to be hell waiting to see the paed. G.p reckons it will be 6 weeks before we get an acknowledgment letter so god knows how long it will be before we get an appointment.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2004 21:54

I wish I could remember more but I wasn't really paying attention to the details.

It's not much comfort when you're left hanging on knowing nothing but if they were worried about it being something serious, you would have been packed off to A&E or the children's ward with a referral then and there.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2004 21:54

I hope this gets sorted quickly.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 21:58

Yep you're right Soupy. I will just have to try and put it to the back of my mind for now.
That said though i am going to start keeping a daily diary so i can note down any worrying symptoms or anything like that.

Nutty, the sky high thing that DS1 had was his CRP level (c-reactive protein). It's something the liver produces in response to acute infection somewhere. (nearly 400 compared with a normal level of around 0!)

SoupDragon · 11/05/2004 09:39

Can you phone your doctor for telephone advice? ur surgery has this facility where you can phone and leave your GP a question and they'll call you back to discuss it. I forgot to ask loads of things at DS1s check up, I always do.

Nutcracker · 11/05/2004 10:30

Thanks for all the advice. She actually ate all of her cereal this morning so she's off to a good start. She's still very tired though.
The doc said that she may of just had a virus and it's taking her a long time to recover from it, but it's worth investigating to find out why it's taking her soo long to recover.
I have been racking my brains trying to think of the last time she was ill but i can't remember. I think the last time she was ill was when she had earache.

I wish i'd realised that they do a blood test for Coeliac as they could of done it when they did the others. Doc said that the hospital will do another test though so i'll make sure they do it.
She certainly does have alot of the symptoms of coeliac so i think it should at least be considered.

I've had a look for info on the liver but it's quite hard to understand. I can't remember if she said low or high now either.
I'm definatly going to keep a diary of what she's eaten and how she's been so hopefully then i won't forget what i want to say.

I would ask for the exact results on a printout and then ring the liver foundation, support line, they may b able to shed some light. or bring it back here maybe? try not to google though, scary...
hope she is ok

lemonice · 11/05/2004 10:52

Sorry to here you are having such an anxious time.
My son had some similar symptoms and it was a post viral syndrome or ME (ie yuppy flu). It developed insidiuosly and as he was grizzly and difficult any way was difficult to spot. As he was a poor eater we gave him Build Up milk shake drinks (which have a high level of vits and minerals)but check with HV before giving them as may need advice in small children.(although we were advised to give dd1 at 18 mths afteran operation so shouldn't be a problem) as well as a tonic (can't remember which) for about 2 years. He had regular visits to the paediatrician for about six months or so initially and we tried to get the school on board (not much success there.) Just a thought this could be a possibility, didn't put it in before as didn't want to suggest other poss's but perhaps this is a bit like Soupy's experience.

Take care.

lemonice · 11/05/2004 10:56

The blood test can detect a virus from at least six months previously eg we saw the paediatrician in about april and the virous that probably led to the symptoms was at least October or so previously.

Nutcracker · 11/05/2004 20:14

I've come to the coclusion that whatever it is that is wrong with dd, it must be getting a good grip of her now.
Today she has had really really sore lips. They just kept cracking and bleeding. I have smothered them in vaseline but it doesn't seem to be helping much.
She also has a sore toe (bit her nail off) and it's now infected. I've got some stuff to draw the puss out, so hopefully that will be a bit better tommorow. If not it will be off to the docs for us again.

Lemonice - Re the build up drinks, do i have to get them on perscription or can i just by them ?? I am taking dd to be weighed and measured next week so i will ask then if her weight is a problem. Was just thinking it would be a good way to get loads of vitamins in to her quickly.
I am also going to go into the health food shop tommorow and see if there are any tonics i can give her.

Any advice on this would be appreciated as i'm not sure what i should be giving her.

OP posts:
Tissy · 11/05/2004 20:26

Nutty, sore cracked lips could be due to the anaemia.

You can get an iron tonic from the chemists called Minadex that we used to take as kids- I loved the taste and used to steal some more if my Mum didn't put the bottle away! Iron does however turn the poo dark green, be warned!

Can't remember if Minadex contains vitamins as well (pharmacist could tell you) but you can get loads of different types of children's vitamon supplements. Don't imagine they would do any harm.

HTH

Jimjams · 11/05/2004 20:30

A natural one that I've always used is floradix- you can get a gluten free version (from health shops) which would be useful if she has coeliac (you could try gluten free anyway and see if it makes a difference). DS1 hasn't eaten meat for 2 years- in fact his diet is extremely poor, but his iron levels are in the normal range- so the floradix must be doing something. He certainly doesn't eat much iron.

Nutcracker · 11/05/2004 20:38

Thanks guys. I did think the sore lips may be due to anemia.
Only thing is, if i try the Minadex and it turns her poo green, i won't be able to check the colour of her stools (which i am supposed to be doing as they are on the slightly pale side).
Does the Floradix do that too JimJams ??

I think all iron supplements affect stools - certainly all the ones I've taken in pregnancy/early motherhood have.
