here we are- how did that happen ?

topsyturner · 19/03/2012 22:16

Nappy rash cream works well on that kind of thing grey (speaking as an expert here !)

Did indeed watch Scott and Bailey tonight . I do luff a good police procedural Grin

Feckin heartburn is driving me crazy , have had it non stop for weeks now . Feel like I am living on Gavilast and milk Sad
Also still got the shortness of breath and BC nurse didn't bother calling me back .

DD back at school tomorrow , DS still off (teacher training or summat)

Oh well , back to my knitting !

LimeJellyforBrains · 19/03/2012 22:28

greylady - hmm sounds like what I get in the summer, same place...have found Sudocrem good (so second Topsy) but not a great smell for guests either...

Topsy - heartburn is a bummer, have a slight bit myself tonight, set off by Mother's Day chocs I think, grrr

Evening all, just quickly checking in before bed. Party was good on Saturday night but no dancing. On the upside, background music was v quiet so those of us with failing hearing (on top of everything else!) could actually enjoy conversations for once!

Made rash promises re mass camping on Jubilee weekend, yikes! Not sure if creaky old lady joints can do the crawling around bit, must practice!

btw, complained to GP re inexorable weight gain last week, she said straight away "that's the Tamoxifen", so maybe docs are beginning to notice/admit it?

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/03/2012 22:40

am a bit Shock by kk's neighbours !
1step glad you have some understanding work colleagues
greylady hope your knickers and nightie do the trick and you can have a lovely evening - it is your birthday I think ?
Ds left his singing book at school which would be a bit of a disaster if it was lost as exam is on wednesday so I insisted he went back to find it - I did drive him I have to admit- fortunately it was in the music room where he'd had his lesson. He is such a daydreamer [exasperation emoticon]

KurriKurri · 19/03/2012 23:17

topsy - annoying that BC nurse hasn't returned your call, are there any more available this week?
Heartburn - I used to get it a lot, so started having loads of pro biotic yogurt (the little drink ones) and that helped a bit.

LJ - interesting about the tamoxifen, - they've been denying for so long that it causes weight gain, like you I'm convinced it does. Did she have any suggestion about what you can do about it - or is it just something one has to put up with?

Greylady - hope you have a good birthday dinner (Is your B'day tomorrow - if so many happy returns Smile)

MAS - glad you got DS's book back. Smile

My DD thinks she has got another pupil, - an adult this time, so she is pleased - she wants to build up a number so she can get a regular income from her teaching.

Night night all xx

Columbia999 · 20/03/2012 00:13

LimeJelly, I'm amazed that the medics are finally admitting that Tamoxifen makes you fat; I got so sick of them all saying rubbish like "It's your age, to be expected" and "well at least you haven't got cancer any more" and similar nonsense, when I absolutely knew that there was no other reason for a woman who had been slim for 49 years to suddenly put on two stone in six weeks, as I did. Perhaps now they are acknowledging it, they might actually start to do something about it. It's bad enough having to deal with a mastectomy without turning into a bloater as well! Angry

Sorry to hear about your neighbours from hell KK, what a nightmare family. I hope they move away soon!

My leg hasn't been too bad at all today. It's still hurting, but I didn't need the stick, so the exercises and hot water bottle must be making a bit of difference. I was going to get some massage from the physio today at the Macmillan drop-in centre, but ended up helping my sister to sort stuff out after her bag was stolen in London yesterday, containing her car key, purse, debit card, Oyster card etc. Fortunately we managed to get the card blocked within about 20 minutes of the theft and they have got footage of the scumbag on CCTV.

OneInEight · 20/03/2012 06:32

Two stone in 6 weeks!!! At the moment I think I'm loosing weight on chemo -disappointed its all going to pile back on and more. Perhaps I won't rush out to buy new clothes just yet. Been very wooly brained over the weekend so not keeping track of everyones posts very well - has anyone got appointments this week? Waves to all & puts early coffee on.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 07:37

coffee please eight !
Happy birthday to greylady !!
kk hooray for dd's new pupil- 2 of my friends teach piano, and a third one used to - seems a very pleasant way to make some income -ds's teacher seems to have a steady stream.
columbia grrr about your sister's bag - bastards !
Tamoxifen and weight- this was one of the big things I was fretting about-which sounds terribly shallow of me,but because of OCD I have a severe body image problem - as well as a need to be in control of everything and the fear of suddenly changing and possibly gaining weight really distressed me. I've probably put on a bit of weight but nothing drastic- some trousers which I wore when dx are now too tight, but they were inexplicably a size ten which I'm not. So I can't really say- they refuse to believe that joint aches are tamoxifen related too.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 20/03/2012 08:16

Happy Birthday greylady , have a great day .

Am not on tamoxifen and not likely to be , so what's my excuse for being a bloater ? Grin

topsyturner · 20/03/2012 08:20

1in8 be careful about loosing weight whilst on chemo . The medics don't like it when that happens .
Do you get weighed when they do your pre chemo bloods ?

Sorry just realised my previous post may have sounded like I was saying the tamoxifen ladies were using it as an excuse for weight gain !
Honest I didn't mean it like that .

jchocchip · 20/03/2012 09:10

Happy Birthday, Greylady :)

Topsy, I did manage to lose weight on Tamoxifen at first, but last month didn't really lose anything and last week put 3 lb back on despite watching what I ate and cycling to work 4 days :( I know I will have put weight on this weekend, no swimming, no run and lots of cinder toffee and marshmallows...

thegreylady · 20/03/2012 09:49

Thanks for good wishes. Dh bought me ... a David Nieper nightie!! Maybe I just won't bother with clothes at all today :-). I wish I could say I woke up feeling great but I am still coughing, have a splitting headache etc. My boob looks slightly better-as dh says more medium rare than rare but it isn't a pretty sight. Dh is doing dinner. He has made home made trout pate, moussaka and he has bought a lemon tart from Tesco finest. It will be OK. I am staying in bed for the morning then will have a shower and attempt to look as if i can rejoin the human race-at least as an associate member! I will let you know how it goes.

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 09:52

Happy birthday grey lady- hope you feel better.

Sat In gps as not feeling whole lot better and want to check its not a bug on scar again (scar feels bit puffy and sore which may be normal , may be infection...). Can sympathise with grey as sick of feeling under the weather .

Will try to catch up on all other posts but hi all.

smee · 20/03/2012 10:04

Kurri, great news on your DD's new pupil.. What are the neighbours up to today? I reckon it's a minaret. Grin

MAS great that DS found his book. Boys are such dreamers - my DH is as bad as my DS. They can have something right under their nose and still not be able to find it.

Happy Birthday to Greylady. Hope you manage some fun. Smile

Angry about your sister's bag, Columbia. Hope they get the maggot who took it.

Lj Shock at camping. Are you mad woman? I get talked into it every year and every year I say never again.. Grin

I've put on half a stone on Tamoxifen, which is quite a lot for me as am a bit on the skinny side. I think my body's definitely changing shape - waste seems thicker and legs heavier. Doesn't menopause slow the metabolism? Isn't that what's causing it?

Eight take care on weight loss - I lost loads on chemo as I couldn't stop throwing up. Wasn't a good look at all and I was very weak by the end of it all. Sad

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 10:10

Yes kurri do update us on neighbour watch .

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 10:18

I'd stay in your lovely birthday nightie greylady - your birthday dinner sounds delicious -yum.
kk yes, do report back on construction site.
I won't weigh myself as I tend to get a bit obsessive about these things, but I can gauge it by clothes - I am probably in denial- I would be horrified if someone told me I was putting on weight..it really scares me.
I think smee's right about the metabolism slowing, and also as we age we probably do change shape. Gah !
Am finishing a picture and then will be able to start on dh's book illustrations - exciting and scary.

Sometimesiwonder · 20/03/2012 10:47

Hi all!

Another one here who thinks tamoxifen causes weight gain, for sure: I am still struggling to get back to where i was prediagnosis Sad.

Here's a weight story to make you grin though - Last year I bought the same trousers in 2 sizes because i liked them and was planning to lose weight - I did that and the bigger pair got too big so I gave them to Mum. They don't fit her, it transpires, and apparently she put them back in my wardrobe. Not knowing this, I put them on for yesterday's meeting, thinking they were the other pair, and had to spend the entire time hauling my trousers up. Grin

I still have a dress size to lose, though Sad

Update on the mad neighbours please, KK!

MAS - How exciting about DH's book!

Columbia999 · 20/03/2012 11:09

Happy birthday Greylady!

Sometimesiwonder · 20/03/2012 11:13

Happy Birthday indeed, Grey Lady! I was really interested to read about your poor, sore boob. I know an elderly lady who suffered horribly with something that sounds the same so I'll read with interest what works for you (can't offer any insights from her as any and all treatment suggestions were roundly dismissed) Sad

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 11:29

Another wound infection and another two weeks of anti biotics Sad

Columbia999 · 20/03/2012 11:33

Sorry to hear that, Gigondas, hope it clears up very soon.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 11:35

oh gig what a pain inthearse (sorry) really though Sad

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 11:37

dh will be publishing his book for kindle - he's set out all the pages and it does look good-so hope my pictures do it justice ! Am biased of course, but it's a cracking read- the hero is a ten yr old boy but there's a really smart girl in it too , and some very unpleasant children and a satanic cat.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 20/03/2012 11:47

Oh dear gig, hope the antibees kick in soon.

:) at trousers, sometimes.

Mas, satanic cat!! How do you draw one of those??

LimeJellyforBrains · 20/03/2012 11:50

Happy Birthday greylady! So hoping you feel better later, your birthday meal sounds absolutely delicious! Lots of my favourite things - smoked fish, moussaka and lemon, yum!

Re Tamoxifen: Maybe the fact the GP was a woman helped.... Not sure if she blamed Tam directly, or rather the menopause symptoms it causes. I know for me I feel whacked a lot, maybe still recovering from treatment, less energy=less movement, made worse by the foot/general aches and pains. So even if I were eating the same as before I am 'spending less'. Not sure if I am eating more than I used to but I do seem to feel hungry and tired all the time!

Re weight loss she said just try to watch what I eat for two weeks - don't try to diet, just 'get back in control', and eat regular healthy snacks to prevent dips. She said aim for 2000 calories. Then after two weeks try to cut down. Trouble is I can't be bothered with anything really. The depression is still a big factor in all of this for me.

Was interested to hear you're on Venlafaxine MAS - after researching re interaction with Tamoxifen, this was what I asked for last November, but either I had a nasty bug or had really swift and bad reaction to them: nauseous and very dizzy, very lethargic. Upside was I lost nearly half a stone in a week as no interest at all in eating or drinking. Only on them a week so not sure if things would have settled down, doc didn't like it and put me on something else (Dosulepin).

Hope everyone is having a good day and has the lovely sunshine we have here Smile.

Kurri I am horrified by your nasty neighbours. Hope they aren't up to anything dodgy too x

LimeJellyforBrains · 20/03/2012 11:51

Oh poor Gig, hope the ABs kick in really soon Sad
