saf - get one with washable covers and buy a cheap spare cover.

SAF - go for it!!

Re painting the sideboard, if you want a 'distressed' wood look, sand it and then get an emulsion, watered down and brush it on.

If you want a solid colour that won't show the grain through, sand it and then use a satinwood paint.

Double - I bet you look lusher than you have ever looked!

my whole house is ikea, their white bookcases if you put the add on top bits are really nice. I swapped all the knobs for black glass laura ashley ones from ebay and they look cool. Probably all in was about £100 for a very tall book case with glass doors.

saf - go for it. We can always sell double's body if you need the money
