but dh bought me a kindle for my birthday so that's my gadget allowance for this year I think

reading on my kindle is fine, but it's not a 'lovely' experience - just convenient and compared to the ipad it just seems so clunky

I'm telling myself that I'm holding out for the 2nd gen version

I can't afford an iPad yet so I've optimistically put one on my wishlist (here: wishli.st/265) !

RubberDuck - re "I think the CD / book thing is that you'd rip a CD onto your computer for your mp3 player ANYWAY, so a physical CD or virtual CD makes no difference" - I was thinking back to when mp3 players first came out! Now, yes, you'd rip a CD to your computer anyway, but before mp3 players although you could do, there was no need to, of course. I remember going through and ripping all my CDs as a specific exercise so that I could get all my music onto the computer and hence onto the ipod! I wish I could do the same with my books, is all.

I'm not so sure about books for general consumption, but I'm pretty sure textbooks, newspapers and magazines on the iPad (or similar) are going to take off. Newspapers/magazines that come to you, and don't need recycling and textbooks that don't weigh a tonne, that you can annotate, and that link to further reading etc I think are where it works best. Or maybe those books that have a limited interest/time span. I would have quite happily bought my pregnancy books in an eBook version, especially as I could read it on the commute and not scream 'PREGNANT' before I'm ready.

John Lewis had a white macbook in last week - it was only a 13" screen, but looked very nice - if I hadn't bought the iPad, I might have been seriously considering it....

Rubberduck - important WeRule question here. You've disappeared from my map. I accepted an order from you and was going to place an order from one of your businesses when I discovered you'd vanished. Also on Godfinger I can't seem to add you to my galaxy. I've added you as a friend and it says added, but you don't appear in the galaxy. Help!

Same thing happened to me! I re-added you as friend on Plus+ and then had to add you back as neighbour separately on each game. Was really weird. Clearly Plus+ had a burp...

I think the silver is nicer than white white looks so plasticy.

I got a cheap stylus in the post today. you have to press fairly firmly but I do like it for writing.

Haven't received my posh one yet - ordered it from the US though so may take a while. My editing/revision course starts Sunday though so starting to wish I'd bought a cheap one as a stop gap

How small can you write with it, Soupy? Do you think you'll end up using it a lot?

The silver is the MacBook Pro, more expensive than the white one. I have just bought DS one for his birthday (as his black MacBook has been well and truly abused)and I think I want to keep it, even though I have a 17" Macbook Pro and a Mac Book Air.

There is definitely something very sexy about the new Mac Book Pro - the Unibody version, it is soooo sleeek!

I spent 6 hours in the Apple store on Tuesday, ( had a few one to one sessions) iPads were flying off the shelf, I wasn't convinced enough to impulse purchase, but wavering, do I really need one as well as an iPhone, Ipod Touch etc etc??
