You're not coping I suspect, just deluding yourself.

What the difference (apart from size clearly) between one of these and an ipod touch?

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 13:43

Um... I suspect size is pretty much it. Unless you go for a 3G version.

I am actually MNing from the PC as I am learning how to rip DVDs into iTunes compatible files. and I don't want to get fingerprints on the iPad.

RubberDuck · 27/05/2010 14:44

Still no ipad mutter.

Did you get a screen protector for yours, Soupy? I have one for my iphone but can't decide if it's worth having one for the ipad.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 14:48

I did and, like the one for my iPhone, I screwed it up and now have a fluffy crumpled bit of plastic film. Still, I made the effort...

I may take it into an Apple store and beg them to put one on for me.

For ripping dvds I can recommend video. Brilliant and has cope with everything I've thrown at it except Disney stuff (notoriously scummy when it comes to copying stuff) and even trunk doable I reckon, its just I use DVD decrypt, which is out of date...

Tell me more about iPad. I want one, but it will end up being dd1's, for school (she currently has my itouch but would find iPad so much easier - SN, so uses it for AAC.)

Still, I suppose I'd get my itouch back...

silverfrog · 27/05/2010 14:52

Sorry, can recommend videora. Phone keeps auto correcting...

RubberDuck · 27/05/2010 14:56

I use Handbrake - is also very good.

pigsinmud · 27/05/2010 15:00

I pre-ordered just at the moment they changed shipping date to 7th June. I can't wait any longer!

I keep looking at the order status to see if it has miraculously been sent earlier than that, but no luck.

RubberDuck · 27/05/2010 15:43

3.41pm The bastards.

Coming back from school with the kids, see TNT lorry parked up front ready to leave. I pelt down the road, laden down with kids' school bags yelling "I'M HERE I'M HERE DON'T GO!" and looking a right idiot.

Got my ipad though

RubberDuck · 27/05/2010 15:44

(I haven't actually opened the parcel yet, I logged on here first to tell you. how sad is that)

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 16:47

LOL! I would have run up to the TNT van like a loony too

I've successfully ripped a DVD using DVD Decrypter and Vedora. Fab. It'll keep DD entertained in airports this summer.

OP posts:
silverfrog · 27/05/2010 17:14

That, ime, is the absolute best thing about iTouches.

Got mine last summer for the airport/plane journey (to Oz ) - it kept both girls totally absorbed with videos, apps, etc. Couldn't believe how effective, tbh.

hmm, dh off to USA next week, might just take a look at exchange rates etc

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:33

I'm in love!

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 18:39

What's the keypad like? Is it easy to use?
What's it like to hold in your hands - too big? Is it comfortable, would you sit with it in a chair and read it? Could you sit in a chair and read it and then type on it? Or does it need to be on a table?

I have so many questions....

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:44

I'm using it at the kitchen table to MN. I've got the proper Apple case which has propped it at a nice angle to type portrait. The keys are probably full sized at this orientation it's not improved my typing! Irritating that the numbers and all the extra character aren't shown though.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:45

It's heavier than a book sound have to have it propped on something to read i think.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:46

So, not sound! Bloody auto correct.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 18:47

Ah okay, thanks SD

so it's sitting propped up portrait, and you are typing straight onto the screen? Are you touch typing?

ooh it's all very interesting, I want to know more things.

What do you think you'll use it for mostly?

ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 18:48

I mean could you comfortably touch type, or does it call for single finger prodding? Like on an iphone?

ooh tell me what you're doing NOW

NetworkGuy · 27/05/2010 18:48

I saw they used an iPad when they announced the new version of Android at the Google conference, because they can make the phone act like a wi-fi hotspot to share the internet connection with the iPad (locked from use on iPhones at present).

Coderooo · 27/05/2010 18:49

ah now dh said i could have one for birthday
but id rather go on hol instead.
am vair pleased with iphone

ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 18:51

I actually didn't understand a word of network guy's post
