She's marking up a draft PDF though so perhaps it's simply a more hightech version of marking up a print out with a biro.

Yep - using iAnnotate PDF - basically I'd rather not print out pages and pages of dead tree, but still need to get away from a traditional computer screen to lose some of the word blindness you get in that mode. Plus, no more covering myself in highlighter pen

I've still got to figure out the workflow, but if it works, it's my killer app. I'm fairly optimistic, as I was reading a review from a published author the other day who uses his iPad in a similar way.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2010 16:55

OMG! I've not played with it today! Why am I sat at my PC when I could be at the kitchen table...???

I've been having fun with Zinio today (magazine reader thingie). I hated the mac version, but on the iPad it's a really seamless way to read magazines.

Think I'll end up buying digital version of magazines (the rare times I fancy buying one of them) rather than the paper version, assuming equality or cheaper in price.

Loving NetNewsWire as an RSS reader too - the iPad version is much nicer than the iPhone version.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2010 17:11

I've had an inordinate amount of fun with TypeDrawing.

Ooo will check that out

SoupDragon · 30/05/2010 17:24

Is Zinio all American?

I have only one thing to add to this thread.....

RubberDuck · 30/05/2010 17:36

Hmm, yes I think it's mostly American editions, yes (doesn't affect me really as I'm mostly after the tech mags and Nat Geo)

RubberDuck · 30/05/2010 17:54

No, correction - there does seem to be some UK editions on the website - also french and other languages too. But it does seem that where a magazine has 2 versions (like Readers' Digest) that they have the US version only, which is a shame.

RubberDuck · 30/05/2010 18:09

Also looks like you can buy magazines from these people www.magazine-group.co.uk/ which then downloads to your Zinio account. They seem to be UK editions.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2010 18:10

There does seem to be a UK store on it.

I had a snigger at the huge article in the Times yesterday celebrating the first person to buy a uk iPad from the apple store. By the time he started queuing on Thursday, I already had mine in my clammy grasp.

I'm in the Apple store in Kingston trying one out. Of course, this is the first place I came...

They have them in stock, so if anyone has anything I need to know, now would be a good time!

I like the keypad, it's got more punctuation on the first screen (though not the apostrophe!)

What should I be trying?

RustyBear · 01/06/2010 11:55

Somebody needs to save me from myself....

RustyBear · 01/06/2010 13:09

Too late....

SoupDragon · 01/06/2010 14:32

LOL

Pinball HD. Fabulous!

I don't think you'll regret your purchase. I was worried I'd be disappointed with mine but I am in awe of it.

I'm rather addicted to We Rule and Godfinger, so if anyone needs neighbours...

Also if you like solitaire, MondoSolitaire is fricking AWESOME - tons of different varieties and absolutely beautiful. Not cheap though

RustyBear · 01/06/2010 16:45

Currently syncing for the first time - it seems to be putting all the iPhone apps on, but hopefully it will let me do the music & photos manually (cos that's what I've ticked) I want all my photos on the iPad, but there isn't room for them on the iPhone.

SoupDragon · 01/06/2010 17:27

Mine added all the iPhone apps too. Once I'd deleted them from the iPad (mines called Idris ) they didn't come back but stayed on the phone.

The 6' long power cable is looking like an essential purchase.

OP posts:
RustyBear · 01/06/2010 17:36

Currently working its way through my 9000-odd (some very odd!) photos.

How long does the battery last? I am automatically ignoring the "10 hours" they assured me in the shop.

SoupDragon · 01/06/2010 17:40

Hmmm.... Mine was filly charged this morning and was down to 50% by lunchtime but that was Internet use which I think is power heavy. It seems slow to charge too.
