I'm not really touch typing I'm not very good at it. I keep hitting n instead of the space bar but I think you make mistakes when using a different keyboard to the one you're used to anyway.

Yes, I'm typing onto the screen and will use it mostly for MNing in the kitchen! and watching films on/ playing games to entertain small children. I don't need the full functionality of a laptop.

Is it beautiful? Properly awesomely beautiful?

When I got my Macbook I sat there for hours, open-mouthed, just staring in wonderment

Maybe I'll get an iphone. I don't know. I hate dh's, it's so present

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:53

You can type properly with all the right fish fingers.

It's lovely.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:54

It's so thin! And sleek and pretty...

I vaguely understood Networkguy.

I'm grinning SD!

I am living vicariously though your ipad happiness

Coderooo · 27/05/2010 18:56

hmm.
how much are they?

ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 18:58

through your Ipad happiness

So you can play DVDs on it, or do you download them? Perhaps you do? Will a big noisy fan go off like it does on my laptop?

Will you read books on it?

It's like a laptop lite - do you think? If you don't need a full laptop you use that for everything else, like emails and the internet.

ooh oooh. I bet it's pretty

Coderooo · 27/05/2010 18:58

i find typing hard as oyu know but on the iphone even WORSE

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 18:58

I cant stop stroking it. Thing is, the children want to play with it and the whole point was that I could use it whilst they are on my main PC!

the android thing is where an ipad would become essential for me.

I have an android phone, and that would clinch the deal for an ipad, imo.

ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 19:00

I find typing on dh's iphone v irritating, makes me think I have potato fingers rather than sleek, delicate digits

oh god, get them OFF it. It's YOURS. Make this clear from day one Soupy

ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 19:00

What is android please?

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:00

This is better than the iphone for typing. MUCH better.

I had to decode the DVD then convert it to the format for iTunes. I just used free software and it did the trick.

Are there still Adobe acrobat (or whatever it's called) issues?

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:02

Oh, I've not let them play on it. Think of the sticky fingers!

OP posts:
silverfrog · 27/05/2010 19:02

the google OPerating system.

it's installed on some smartphones - mostly the ones that now rival iphones, like htc, nexus, etc

I have an htc phone, and, imo, it's better than an iphone. looks pretty similar, acts pretty similar, but just has the edge on a few things (more htings if you are a proper geek, i expect)

android do lag behind on apps, though. but then I have my itouch, when I canwrench it away form dd1

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:03

I would imagine so. I think this is just a big iPod touch really.

Ive just downloaded a lovely app that creates notebooks for you to write things in with your finger or an iPad stylus.

OP posts:
silverfrog · 27/05/2010 19:04

I assume there are still flash issues.

you can watch iplayer on itouch, so assue you can on ipad.

flash is another point where android wins out - just anounced the flash update

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:05

Yes, they're still being gits about flash IIRC.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:06

I think the iPad loads pages quicker than an iPhone.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 27/05/2010 19:06

oh my god to the notebook app with stylus. oh my god. that's amazing

Thediaryofanobody · 27/05/2010 19:08

How is it to hold? I was wondering if they would be awkward if lying in bed or the sofa.
Ahhh why didn't I order one when I had the chance. [note to self do NOT take advice from DH again]

said · 27/05/2010 19:08

What's the point of them? Seriously, I don't get it.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:09

I shall try lounging on the sofa with it later. You can lock the screen orientation so it doesn't flip when your lying down.
