A weird question for you all. When you dream, are phones and other tech in it?..

Scrolling through Facebook and one of those weird things come up.

It asks how it’s strange how when we dream our phones, laptops, tv’s etc are never in them.

It got me thinking, I can’t remember ever having my phone in my dream, using any tech at all.

My phone plays a big part in my life, as does my laptop for work. So it is actually a bit strange they have never been in a dream!

Do they appear in your dreams?

I often have nightmares where I drop my phone over a bridge or something! Such horrible panic.

I've never thought about it before, but I never have tech (phones, computers, etc) in my dreams. Cars do feature - usually trying to pack them with the contents of my university/holiday accommodation in record time because i have to be out by a looming deadline but I have a ridiculous amount of stuff.

No I've never dreamed about a phone.

never ever realised this before and have very vivid dreams and I use a lot of tech

Yes all the time and I often have dreams that I’m trying to dial a number and I can’t get through, everything keeps preventing me from getting though.

i have very vivid dreams also, someone asked me previously if I dreamt in colour? I was dumbfounded. Of course, it’s surround sound and clear as day.

That’s exactly the same for me.

Same for me, too. I've had dreams where my phone has been infected with some kind of virus, and I can't get past endless pop-ups and odd ads in foreign languages. It's incredibly frustrating!

No, I often remember my dreams but can't recall anything about phones, computers etc. Seems odd now you mention it!

I dream about driving quite often!

In a way. I had a dream recently that my 20yo son had a hologram of himself that went everywhere with him.

I dream that I am inside the internet. I can see everything posted online.

But I've dreamt about trying to call someone and I can't open / see / press the right buttons on my phone. Always horrible and frustrating

I dream of flying a lot also, on a plane and by myself also very clearly. I can actually feel it.

Yes, tech is in my dreams but it's always bizarrely wrong - like a phone with hundreds of buttons that prints out till receipts - and I can never get it to work.

Yes and it’s always very stressful. I’m trying to make a call and I can’t press the right buttons.

I dream in PowerPoint, sometimes. My son says he has dreamed in Minecraft.

Reading through the first few pages, I was convinced I have never had a dream which included technology, until I read the above, then I remembered, I've dropped my phone numerous times in dreamland. I wonder if on waking you just forget the details, as other parts of the dream are more interesting.
I have no idea what dream me is wearing either....

I have the unable to use the phone dreams and the driving the car from the wrong seat dreams.
I also have loads of dreams about being on the wrong train/bus and can’t find my travelling companions.

I have the "unable to dial 999" dream.
I also regularly dream that I've discovered rooms in my house I didn't know were there, and I use my phone to take photos to prove they are real

I often have this! Ever since I was small I have had a recurring dream that I’m trying to dial a number on an old-fashioned rotary phone - usually the one I remember in my parents’ hall - and my finger keeps slipping just before the end, so I keep having to start dialling the number again but I never manage do it properly.

For a long time it was only a rotary phone, but I’ve recently had ones where I’m trying to key in a number on a mobile and keep making a mistake and having to start again. My subconscious must have updated! (Took it a long time 😆)

I don’t ever dream about computers, though; only phones. Occasionally televisions or display screens; but never computers or laptops, or indeed phone screen displays aside from the dialling numbers. And I can never see images or numbers clearly on any screens in my dreams.

This is one of the things that scares me most about dementia. When I have dreams that morph and change like this I always feel terribly trapped and anxious and distressed. My grandmother had dementia like this and it was clearly like being trapped in a dream and never being able to wake up. It’s one of my greatest fears to be honest.

When I had some psychoanalytic therapy we would sometimes talk about my dreams. Dreams are powerful messengers from our subconscious, especially repetitive dreams. The car dreams, where you are sat, might be about how in control of your life you feel. If you're not in the driving seat, then you are a passenger. Being sat in the back means you arent steering and you dont have a clear view of where you are going. Even the time of day, the environment, who you're with all has meaning. The failure to make contact by phone might represent a communication issue in your life. Again it is more nuanced, the more detail you analyse, but I found dream interpretation to be very helpful at difficult times.

But it's very true that tech rarely makes an appearance in my dreams. I wonder if it is because our dreams are more about our primal state.

No, I’ve never dreamt of tech either, it’s like I’m back in the 1990s!

Actually thinking of it, the only tech I’ve dreamt about is a proper camera where I’m trying to take photos of my DC and the camera won’t work.
