Scrolling through Facebook and one of those weird things come up.

It asks how it’s strange how when we dream our phones, laptops, tv’s etc are never in them.

It got me thinking, I can’t remember ever having my phone in my dream, using any tech at all.

My phone plays a big part in my life, as does my laptop for work. So it is actually a bit strange they have never been in a dream!

Do they appear in your dreams?

I think the car dream is really common. Even my ds has that and he is nowhere near old enough to drive.

The standard car dream in our family is that we are trying to drive from the back seat or the passenger seat.

I once dreampt that I was a John Le Carre novel and I was really worried that I would be bought by the kind of bloke who likes those. In the event, I married a man to does love John Le Carre novels, but he is perfectly nice.

Wow isn't it weird how phones have become anxiety inducing in some of our dreams.

I've also been having the same can't call, can't find my numbers on my phone to make important calls.

Trying to find people who I'm meant to be meeting. I've had this type of dream about 6 times in the last month. It's really horrible and frustrating! I cannot push the keyboard properly and sometimes a bug type thing takes over just like my old PC.

coffeeandteav · 29/06/2024 23:18

Yes I always dream that I can't get through when its impossible.

This has actually happened with bad signal in real life several times.

Greyingmumto3 · 29/06/2024 23:20

ive also had the dream where my phone doesn’t work! I’m trying to press in the numbers but I keep
jumbling them up as if I’m drunk.
I recently had to help my neighbour as she was trying to call 999 and kept making mistakes ( it reminded me of my dreams )
I also dream a lot that I’ve got on the wrong bus and can’t find my way home

Tcateh · 29/06/2024 23:21

I'm a little taken aback as just catching up on the last few posts. My most recent anxiety dreams are also driving my car but having to do so from the passenger seat or the back.

Also reams and teams of packing up stuff. Never ending suitcases, boxes belongings, childhood toys, college work.

Oh that reminds me has anyone dreamt they're still in or back at college or uni.
I'm my age but I'm still there, or I've gone back and I'm having to do work plus explain why I haven't been in for 30 odd yrs.

Utterly ridiculous!

Previousreligion · 29/06/2024 23:22

Not that I recall. Most of my dreams are about some kind of enormous building (warehouse / office block or something) and people I know but behaving out of character. Often related to books, films, articles or real life situations I've been exposed to that day.

mrwalkensir · 29/06/2024 23:23

I have very vivid dreams as on prozac for hot flushes. I now know if I'm dreaming that I can't look anything up on my phone or tablet eg use a map, look up info, close tabs. Becuase of course my brain doesn't know what the answer is. Which makes sense...

katebushh · 29/06/2024 23:23

Yes, my recurring one is not being able to work my phone to get help Shock

leftorrightnow · 29/06/2024 23:24

I’ve had phones and emails in my dreams, sad isn’t it! I even once dreamt the whole process of typing a work email. Can it get any sadder?

CrushingOnRubies · 29/06/2024 23:25

Not phones exactly

But if I'm really into a game like say Candy Crush I'll dream I'm playing Candy Crush but couldn't tell you what device I'm playing it on

That's when I know it's time to give said game a break for a bit

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 29/06/2024 23:25

I had a dream last night where we were watching a version of real housewives on my phone.

I was rewinding it over and over to see who punched who so I could change it in real life

Lillywho · 29/06/2024 23:26

Never dreamt of phones ever

I have a recurring dream where I’m trying to make and important call, sometimes to police sometimes to family, and the buttons and numbers constantly jumble up.

I have that kind of dream often. I'm urgently trying to reach someone but keep pressing the wrong buttons or forgetting the numbers. It's stressful!

Haveanaiceday · 29/06/2024 23:27

Yes I have this recurring nightmare about not being able to get the phone to work in an emergency too! Interesting that it's so common.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 29/06/2024 23:28

I've dreamt about sleeping through my phone alarm going off

Yes I 100% get the university dream.

When I get it I am back at university and have decided to do a second degree in Chemistry, French and something else hard.

The problem is that I don't know where or when the lectures are. I can't seem to find out what the homework is, and I can't navigate public transport.

If I drive, then the city is all wrong.

If I try to visit my old supervisor to ask his advice, then his old office is exactly as he left it 30 years ago when he retired. I feel so grateful for the familiarity, but he is not there.

Then it all gets a bit crazy and I get terribly behind and have to drop out.

I remembered I also have the "phone won't work" dream. It's always a candybar phone and literally nothing that I do will cause it to phone the right number.

Definitely phones. I have this reoccurring dream where there’s some kind of emergency and I need to call 999 but when I’m turning to dial, the wrong numbers appear on the screen. A bit like you know when you try to type on your phone with wet fingers and it doesn’t quite work? Like that. So I definitely have phones in my dreams. I’m not sure about other tech, though.

I have this dream too, exactly the same. Otherwise, tech doesn't tend to feature in my dreams at all unless I dream I am reading an email very occasionally.

Mmmmdanone · 29/06/2024 23:30

I've never thought about it before, but no, I can't recall ever having a dream with a phone in it. Or tv, computer or any tech. How strange when I use them most of the day. Bet I have a vivid phone related dream tonight!

I have a recurring dream where I’m trying to make and important call, sometimes to police sometimes to family, and the buttons and numbers constantly jumble up.

I was coming here to say the same thing! A recurring dream about trying to call 999 but I end up dialling 998 or 989, etc. On the rare occasion I dial correctly, the phone disconnects or I can't speak!

Ihaveayellowhat · 29/06/2024 23:32

I also dream that I have to drive my car from the back seat and it’s so stressful because I can’t reach and I’m really alarmed that I’m not in the correct seat and I’m going to cause a crash.

I dreamt I hadn’t prepared a PowerPoint the other night and was panicking when I got up to present but weirdly no tech was in the dream. I can’t remember ever dreaming of my phone. Never thought about it before!

SpaceJamtart · 29/06/2024 23:33

I often dream about radios. Usually trying to tune one to recieve a message, sometimes flipping through channels looking for a particular song. Often my dreams are 'narrated' by an old timey radio presenter. I've had a few where I have gone to speak to someone and their mouth opens to reveal a radio speaker and just static comes out.

It's weird because I don't listen to the radio, I don't own a radio and have never tried to tune one so I don't know why I dream about them so often but never a phone.

AtLeastWeTried · 29/06/2024 23:33

One of the things about the first lockdown was that we all found we were having incredibly vivid dreams. Unfortunately they were all dreams about how each other (me, DS, and DH) were being massively annoying and difficult to live iwth, and it was all very true.

We got really tense about it for a while and then realised that it was easier just to tell each other what annoying thing we'd each done in each dream and laugh it off.

The dreams were so in-character that really all we could do was laugh and carry on. It did become very funny after a while.

I have the same. I need to call the police but I can’t make it work.

PickAChew · 29/06/2024 23:34

They're in my dreams and I can never get the bloody things to work properly. I've had whole dreams revolving round needing to type something and not being able to eg the wrong characters appear on the screen or everything keeps disappearing.

Yes! It's not 999 for me but other, random phone numbers. So frustrating! Typing stuff too. Apparently it's because the bits of the brain that del with this stuff re less active when sleep or something.
