Scrolling through Facebook and one of those weird things come up.

It asks how it’s strange how when we dream our phones, laptops, tv’s etc are never in them.

It got me thinking, I can’t remember ever having my phone in my dream, using any tech at all.

My phone plays a big part in my life, as does my laptop for work. So it is actually a bit strange they have never been in a dream!

Do they appear in your dreams?

I think I've had phones in dreams.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 29/06/2024 22:50

That is interesting.

I asked dp and teens, they can’t recall ever dreaming of them.

I have a recurring dream where I’m trying to make and important call, sometimes to police sometimes to family, and the buttons and numbers constantly jumble up.

Cattery · 29/06/2024 22:53

No. Old style phones and phone boxes and the round dials they had

opalsandcoffee · 29/06/2024 22:54

no, never

StarDolphins · 29/06/2024 22:55

I don’t dream ever. Or I don’t remember if I do.

missnevermind · 29/06/2024 22:55

The way I can tell if I am dreaming is I try to make a call on my phone and it has no numbers and then I recognise that it must be a dream.

Smidge001 · 29/06/2024 22:55

No, now you come to mention it, I don't think tech has appeared in my dreams. Not often anyway, despite spending most of the conscious part of my day on them!

newyear2024 · 29/06/2024 22:58

I've dreamt I've been trying to text and cant text properly or work the phone screen so I've definitely had phones but never tv or laptop (that I remember anyway)

I get this dream too, quite often. In mine, for some odd reason, I just can't make the call or, if I do, I'm unable to effectively communicate with the person on the other end (I'm usually dialling 999)!

thistimelastweek · 29/06/2024 22:59

I can't think of phones or IT featuring in my dreams. Or kitchen appliances.

But transport and vehicles feature regularly. Especially in the context of an anxiety dream when I can't reach a destination.

PerfectTravelTote · 29/06/2024 22:59

Phones, yes. It's either lost or I'm trying in vain to make a call.

Bruciebogtrotter · 29/06/2024 23:01

No! Never realised this before! And I have very detailed vivid dreams, and I’m always on my phone too.

Wyndolynnee · 29/06/2024 23:01

Wow.

No. I have vivid dreams every night and I've never had a mobile or laptop in them!

I've had phones in dreams which are old rotary phones, landlines. Not had a landlines for about 20 years!!

And I am CONSTANTLY on my mobile.
What a bizarre revelation.

darksigns · 29/06/2024 23:03

Never. I hadn’t realised before.

elliesmummy19 · 29/06/2024 23:03

Definitely phones. I have this reoccurring dream where there’s some kind of emergency and I need to call 999 but when I’m turning to dial, the wrong numbers appear on the screen. A bit like you know when you try to type on your phone with wet fingers and it doesn’t quite work? Like that. So I definitely have phones in my dreams. I’m not sure about other tech, though.

AtLeastWeTried · 29/06/2024 23:04

I also have constant anxiety dreams about transport.

My standard dream is that I am packing to go home from a work conference in the US. As I am packing, the number of things I have packed increases steadily, until I discover there is a whole other room through a side door in the hotel room. That side room contains all my childhood possessions, favourite board games and books. These days there are often whole series of beautiful hard backed books like the "child's garden of verse" but with 40 or more volumes, all beautifully illustrated.

I only have one small rucksac to put it all in.

I think that one of the things that I have to pack is my DSLR and the lenses, which also seem to multiply so that I can't fit them in the bag.

I don't remember having a phone or a laptop, but there is the constant worry that the taxi to the airport is coming any minute and my friend Jane is waiting for me.

I haven't flown transatlantic for 14 years and never will again. Old habits die hard.

Ossoduro2 · 29/06/2024 23:05

I have a recurring dream where I’m trying to phone an ambulance and it is taking an age to connect. I think I’m using an iPhone in the dream - so proper modern tech, rather than the old dial phone at the bottom of the stairs!

other than that particular dream, I don’t think any tech ever features.

elliesmummy19 · 29/06/2024 23:06

I’ve just googled my dream about being unable to dial 999 and there’s loads of posts on Reddit from people who have dreamt the exact same thing. Weird!

TheDogdidGood · 29/06/2024 23:06

Yes! I dreamt only a couple of nights ago that I was on the computer at work doing an invoice and I made a mistake. It's a new job and I'm still worried about making mistakes! It was really clear - I could see all the item numbers on the screen

meimyself · 29/06/2024 23:07

I think our brains might keep them from us because using them in a dream points out the environment isn't working correctly. It's confusing to me to know how to use them and the screen/ buttons shift around

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 29/06/2024 23:07

Oh that's funny, I never have either. I've had cars plenty of times if they count as tech.

NecklessMumster · 29/06/2024 23:07

I have frequent dreams where my mobile won't work in an emergency, I can't get a signal/numbers are wrong etc, an anxiety dream, usually trying to call DP

AtLeastWeTried · 29/06/2024 23:08

I think that's definitely a thing about 999. I read something that said a lot of people find they can't dial 999 in real life even if they have to, because they panic and screw it up.

My DH dialied 999 last year and when the person said "what service?" he panicked and hung up the phone. They had to ring back and ask if he was safe as they were convinced he was being held hostage or something.

He wasn't at all. He just was freaking out about dialing 999.

sproutsandparsnips · 29/06/2024 23:11

Yep I agree with PP - I've tried to phone people and can't find the right buttons. Not smart phones, usually old fashioned phone box phone!
Also frequent dreams about trying to get somewhere and not being able to find my way. No sat nav there!
