Scrolling through Facebook and one of those weird things come up.

It asks how it’s strange how when we dream our phones, laptops, tv’s etc are never in them.

It got me thinking, I can’t remember ever having my phone in my dream, using any tech at all.

My phone plays a big part in my life, as does my laptop for work. So it is actually a bit strange they have never been in a dream!

Do they appear in your dreams?

I am regularly trying to dial 999 on my mobile but can never do it. It seems like quite a common theme!

TeabySea · 29/06/2024 23:36

Yes, phones and computers in my dreams. They always go wrong or just don't work properly whenever they're in my dreams.

SilverSimca · 29/06/2024 23:36

I definitely do, I have the phone dream where I can’t get through, but also dream that I am trying to look up information or do something on a phone or laptop, and the pages won’t load, or the web site is impossible to navigate and I go round in circles. Ihave dreams where I am scrolling, or or making pictures bigger or smaller, or using the content management software I use at work.
I also have dreams which are stories and then the story I am in turns out to be a TV show or a book and then I am watching it on TV rather than being in it.

I think I buy camera equipment a lot in dreams, and it's always bonkers stuff. The lenses always have nice boxes to go into and I spend a lot of time trying to remember which goes in which box.

I do not recall every trying to actually use a camera in a dream.

One of the really interesting things about having an elderly relative with delirium or lewy body dementia is that they have dreams like this while they are awake and can tell you what's going in real time. It's exactly the same stuff, but they are awake.

Wtih my relative, I can help the person to fix the situation in the dream by talking them through it.

For example if they are struggling to drive a car, I can say "I am in a supermarket" and then immediately they are also in a supermarket. Sometimes they can see me, even though I am on the phone to them.

I'm not sure why these conditions put the person into a waking dream state but it livens things up no end.

I'm a little taken aback as just catching up on the last few posts. My most recent anxiety dreams are also driving my car but having to do so from the passenger seat or the back.

Also reams and teams of packing up stuff. Never ending suitcases, boxes belongings, childhood toys, college work.

Oh that reminds me has anyone dreamt they're still in or back at college or uni.
I'm my age but I'm still there, or I've gone back and I'm having to do work plus explain why I haven't been in for 30 odd yrs.

Utterly ridiculous!

Yeah, I'm often having to sit Gcse something or other and I'm protesting that I already have an O level or a degree in the subject. I also dream that I'm back at the job Ieft over 20 years ago and mad that no one will listen to me and allow me to leave once I realise why I'm so unprepared.

I think that's definitely a thing about 999. I read something that said a lot of people find they can't dial 999 in real life even if they have to, because they panic and screw it up.

My DH dialied 999 last year and when the person said "what service?" he panicked and hung up the phone. They had to ring back and ask if he was safe as they were convinced he was being held hostage or something.

He wasn't at all. He just was freaking out about dialing 999.

We got burgled one night, and the burglar was downstairs in our house. I couldn't for the life of me work out how to use my mobile and call 999 because I I was panicking so much. I've had dreams where I have my phone but can't get it to work.

I have a recurring dream where I’m trying to make and important call, sometimes to police sometimes to family, and the buttons and numbers constantly jumble up.

Yes!!! Or I keep dialling the wrong number, or it won't connect. Petrifying

rewilded · 29/06/2024 23:47

Yes to recurring emergency call and I can never get through or convey the emergency correctly.

BiscuityBoyle · 29/06/2024 23:49

Thinking about it making a call is one of the interactions I have very infrequently with my phone. I almost never make a call. Yet in a dream, if I use my phone at all, it’s not to chat shit in here but to make a phone call.

Me too!

KlongDuplo · 30/06/2024 00:20

Regularly dream about work (on laptop - excel or ppt usually), sending and receiving WhatsApp messages, and sometimes playing a game on my phone.

This - incredibly frustrating!

I've had that too

spiderlight · 30/06/2024 00:23

I only ever dream about phones not working in emergency situations, or about not being able to remember how to use them. They're never just 'there'. I also never dream about taking photos, even though it's a hobby of mine and I take hundreds with my phone and with a decent camera.

NewMe2024 · 30/06/2024 00:25

No, I never have tech in my dreams. How interesting!

WayOutOfLine · 30/06/2024 00:27

I have very vivid and complex dreams, including about the future or apocalyptic scenarios, but you are right that I don't dream about technology hardly at all. Cars yes, I'm always trying to escape in a car, but not phones or computers.

I still have exam anxiety dreams and I have to write them by hand!

Splcam · 30/06/2024 00:47

I don't have dreams about computers or phones very often. Thinking about other technology (not just digital), I regularly have dreams where there are trains, cars and for some reason lifts, though they often don't look like lifts, they will look like a small room or a changing room cubicle and suddenly start moving upwards 🙂🤔

But I do have vivid recollection of a dream I had years ago where in the course of a dream, I looked at my phone and saw hundreds of texts and missed calls from people I knew and I realised that something terrible was going to happen and people were getting in touch to say goodbye. And I looked up at the sky and saw a load of missiles flying overhead and then exploding on the ground. I woke up in a state of absolute terror and really didn't want go back to sleep!

Urgh, I have this one all the time! Either I misdial, or there's no signal, or they can't hear me, or they don't believe me, or I drop the phone... Hideous.

Newsenmum · 08/07/2024 20:27

Yes. I’ve had dreams where I’m desperate trying to text or phone someone and can’t get it to work.

Bohomovies · 08/07/2024 20:31

I can remember one dream I had where I read a text from a deceased relative.
apart from that, i don’t think I do dream about phones or laptops at all.

Tommalot · 08/07/2024 21:20

I wonder if younger people who grew up with phones, laptops etc and have never known anything different....if they dream of the tech.

I dream of cars and TVs for example, but nothing invented from the 90s onwards.

ltappleby · 08/07/2024 21:32

Now you mention it, I don’t remember any dreams with phone & computer tech in them. Cars and boats crop up some times but usually I’m on foot.

meimyself · 08/07/2024 21:38

You might find it's rare to have mirror dreams as well

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 08/07/2024 22:18

Tech normally features in a nightmare type dream, or at least those are the ones I mostly remember. I need to make an urgent phone call (for various reasons) and the buttons don't work, there's no signal, things get jumbled up, it's flat etc.
