I've actually cried all over a computer. That I think I broke.

Or maybe windows 8 hates me.

I need a fecking drink.

I'm 46 years old, allegedly not technologically incompetant (I used to repartition and reinstall and everything when I had windows XP, just haven't needed to do it for years) and I've cried all over this virtually new computer and I think I am about to cry again. Like actually plopping tears and everything.

If I can't fix it my son gets two crap Christmasses in a row. ( Mil was dying in hospital last year, so not so grave, but his most wanted xams pressies are totally redundant without his 'puter.

Due to a FURBAR during a.... "go back to factory settings you laggy git faced computer" session ....things went horribly wrong. Mainly cos the computer was speaking in Italian and I was tired. Probably.

So I had amazon UK rush a proper full copy of windows 8.1 in Bloody ENGLISH to Italy. DHL finally found me after a tense 48 hours of increasingly heated phone calls with me yelling "how can I always be "customer out" if you have kept me trapped in the house for TWO DAYS!"

I got into BIOS (whatever that is) I changed the boot thingie to CD-rom drive as first choice (gingerly, never been in BIOS before) All went swimmingly, but then it hung for hours and It couldn't finish the last bit of a clean install.

So a youtubber siad delete partitions.

So I did. Well some of them. 2. ACER and USER

And then I clicked next and the fecking computer complained something was missing so it couldn't run the cd-rom drive. Or something like that.

I have spent 113 euros. And all I have managed to do is kill the computer more.

And christmas is ruined cos the computer shop is not taking any repairs in till he comes back in the New Year.

Dos anybody have any ideas what has gone so horribly wrong and how to put it right ?

And if you don't. Can you please start sticking pins in an effigy of the Windows 8 wholly annoyingly displeasuring start screen of pissingoffness.

Or pass a hanky.

Is this peri menopause making me an emotional wreck due to poxy software ?

Wine. I wish I had wine.

Too few Mac users to get the full range of experience to be much help when they go wrong I think.

DS is facinsted by all of this. As a keen code avengers user, he is asking what GCSEs and other stuff he needs to get to do your jobs ?

I think he saw the "easy money" bit Grin

Has this PC always run 8.1 or did you upgrade it from 8.0.I had the same problem with doing a system image in 8.1 and windows mentioned formatting my hard drive,at that point I did a factory recovery to 8.0 and have ignored all prompts to upgrade to 8.1 since.

When you get sorted there is a free program called www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx,techys swear by it,you wont need to use the windows image program at all.

CarpeVinum · 22/12/2013 10:43

It came with 8 installed. I bought the "full" 8.1 from amazon, cos I had no back up of 8 (computer wouldn't let me) and I was pretty confident that I had fucked up the Os bigtime. Or it came with a fucked up version of windows 8. Or somethingnhad fucked up windows 8.

Probably a youtuber

I did tell him to send stuff to dropbox just in case. Did he listen. Did he bollocks.

An now of course it's all mu fault.

13 yo boys and their ability to blame other people for everything is unparralled.

I know where your coming from,I have three grown up ds,s(youngest never came home last night, has just text to say he is staying at a mates, great but the text should have been at 10 last night not this morning).Mind you girls are no better,dd is doing her gcse,s this year and is hell to live with at the moment, she is at a super selective grammar school and is really feeling the pressure to do well. She has the ability just lacks confidence in her ability.

Is it still scanning?

RandomMess · 22/12/2013 11:05

Is it fixed yet????

I'm sending you a VAT of gin over to recover from this experience!

CarpeVinum · 22/12/2013 11:09

Still scanning.

Random can i have the gin even if it does get fixed ? My nerves have been shot by the entire experience.

And the stones ginger wine found i the back of the cupboard tastes funny.

Nobody is allowed to mention boys not coming home at night in my hearing. I am feeling fragile !

I don't want him to get any bigger. It sounds worse than the toddler years. And tgyears of not enough sleep. And the years of not eating anything. And the years where he didn't seem able to walk two steps without banging into something.

Why can't they just stay 9. That really was a golden age.

I am not stupid. I have had a computer since I was 14 and I am 46 now.

Where did it all go so horribly wrong ?

I used to lecture at conferences re the use of technology in the English Language classroom (and yes I am well aware I can't spell, don't panic, I try much harder when teaching)

An now look at me.

Maryz

Rather than new computer, considering converting entire family to Amish-hood.

You know where you are with a donkey.
