I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees thanks for.your supportive message as always, yes she is and we have . Unfortunately she's still not convinced as exams didn't go well. She's currently muttering about resits. She maybe needs to look at the foundation year which is really low.and also run at her current 6th form! We will see good luck tomorrow.

BonjourCrisette · 13/08/2025 22:41

Yes, positive thoughts to all.

This thread has been a wonderful support. Love to everyone.

Earlymornyawn · 13/08/2025 23:24

I agree, thank you to all on this thread, it has felt like a lovely supportive place.

Please could someone point me in the direction of the new thread?

Good luck everyone 🤞!

Changes17 · 14/08/2025 06:48

Morning all! I hope all DC get the results they need today. This thread has been a lovely community over the last couple of years - thanks all!
I imagine it might get filled up today - do we want a new one for DC next steps - or just move onto the A levels results day one?

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/08/2025 09:15

Well after all my daughter’s struggles with anxiety in the run up to the exams she came out with Astar, A,A. Considering she / I didn’t even think she would make it into the English exams the A is amazing and she’s not actually sure how she did it 🤣

PennywisePoundFoolish · 14/08/2025 09:31

Amazing results @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky , well done to DD!

DS2 didn't get his predicted grades so he's got his insurance. He's a bit disappointed but cracking on with looking into accommodation

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2025 09:47

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky brilliant results, and even more amazing given how things were over the exam period. So pleased for you both.

@PennywisePoundFoolish sorry to hear of the near miss, but pleased that your DS has achieved his insurance - that's no mean feat! It sound really positive that he is cracking on with accommodation.

DC1 dropped a grade from her predictions, but has met the conditions of her Oxford offer in full. She had an open offer but has been allocated to the original college that she applied to, which she's really pleased about.

AutumnComing2 · 14/08/2025 10:29

@PennywisePoundFoolish sorry he didn’t get his firm choice but I think you said Exeter was his Insurance and it’s a fab city great place to live.

so pleased DD got her predictions as they are lower than lots of folk who post on here and after CDD at AS level she wasn’t confident all but now with 120 ucas points she has really good options after her gap year to decide which path to take. Good luck everyone.

HippyChickMama · 14/08/2025 11:06

Ds got BBB, which he was disappointed with as he needed ABB. However, his firm accepted him anyway so he’s happy!

Changes17 · 14/08/2025 11:07

Congratulations to all on their grades and uni places.

DS has his firm MPhys place despite dropping two grades on further maths. He’s very pleased!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2025 11:21

Congratulations @HippyChickMama and @Changes17 ! Lovely to hear that your young people are often to their first choice universities. And well done @AutumnComing2 to your DD - great that she's all set up for applications next year.

mumonthehill · 14/08/2025 11:50

Ds did not get what he wanted but his first choice have made him a provisional offer on the lower grades. Biology was not good which was a shock but hopefully Nottingham is where he will go unless he takes a gap year. Well done all!

Earlymornyawn · 14/08/2025 12:28

DC got A in Maths, A in Chemistry and a B in computer science, which was a shock as predicted A star. I think that we will get the papers back, DC very overwhelmed, was hoping for better grades but got into first choice. Also got A star in EPQ.
Did anyone else’s DC take OCR computer science?
DC is now out with friends who have been very supportive and nobody seemed overly happy with their results but all have got into their chosen uni so happy 😀.
Well done to all the students collecting results today!

WombatChocolate · 14/08/2025 13:27

I don’t know if it helps but around 80% of predicted grades are historically wrong each year. Most are too generous. So most students have grade(s) below their predicted level.
It seems more and more places will take their Firn candidates who are near misses and over 80% of students got their Firm choice.

I understand disappointment though - it’s a matter of academic pride for many people.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2025 13:57

@mumonthehill sorry to hear of your DS's near miss. Is Nottingham all sorted for him?

@Earlymornyawn I think today is probably the first and last time that A level grades will be scrutinised in any depth. Once they've started university that's the focus for future employers. Glad your DS and friends are all in at their first choices.

mumonthehill · 14/08/2025 14:04

@TheTurn0fTheScrew hopefully. It was his first choice but they declined him first thing but they have now made him a provisional offer so going through the ucas process.

mumonthehill · 14/08/2025 14:08

It is interesting though that he always does well in mocks but struggles in the actual exam, he said he just clams up. It is the same with his sport, fast in training but cracks under the pressure when racing. Some work to do there I think! His coaches despair with him!!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/08/2025 14:16

@mumonthehill Sounds like just administrative hurdles to overcome, which is great. Very pleased for him!

Monstermunchy · 14/08/2025 17:43

Lovely to hear positive news.

DS exceeded his offer for the MPlan at Sheffield which he was a bit surprised about but delighted nonetheless! He got the only A* for geography in his year - not expected!

He’s now out partying 😅

Changes17 · 14/08/2025 17:47

I hope everyone ends up on a course they enjoy - and sleeps better tonight!

jamimmi · 14/08/2025 17:48

Well dd unfortunately as she predicted missed all her grades appart from the A at epq. Even with a big drop at lancaster she still didn't quite make it, but after much thinking today has accepted the alternative offer they made of an integrated foundation year. Hopefully it will all work out, even if it does mean another year at her current collage while living in lancaster! ( they teach foundation there)

I’m exhausted - the heat plus nerves were a nightmare last night!

@jamimmi sounds like a sensible choice, hope it goes well for her

Earlymornyawn · 14/08/2025 22:14

Thank you @TheTurn0fTheScrew , I kind of feel like it’s Groundhog Day as my other DC got exactly the same grades and we had to remark as it was only one point off an A and chosen uni wouldn’t take them. It all worked out in the end though and they will now hopefully one day be well enough to continue with their PHD course.

@jamimmi it sounds like a good choice, I hope they are happy and enjoy their degree.

We all seem to have been through it today. I hope that everyone’s DC’s are celebrating and that you all now manage to relax and enjoy the rest of the summer.
