I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

DC1 had their very first A level today - physics - it’s been such a long wait whilst all their friends got started.
Now a break for half term before the rest of the exams take place!

Was it Aqa or ocr? First for ds too.

OCR. DD thought it went OK, but not everyone had the same view!

NCTDN · 23/05/2025 16:40

Ds was also ocr. Lots seemed to hate it here ! He just said the questions were weird.

autumndays13 · 23/05/2025 16:57

Edexcel fm maths yesterday was apparently good, physics AQA today also fine but more questions than usual. DD v tired but upbeat. Keeps saying it feels like exams have finished. If only. Ten more to go after half term. Hope everyone’s DC can recharge a bit over the next week.

Wishing all your teens good luck in the exams
mine has found geography exams hard so far

mumonthehill · 25/05/2025 08:06

@GingerPussInBoots thats interesting as ds said it was ok but they had one question in it that they had no idea about and nor did their teacher. It was phrased in a really odd way and they had no idea what it was asking. I think it threw a few of them.

GingerPussInBoots · 25/05/2025 08:20

Yes it was the wording that threw my teen off

NCTDN · 25/05/2025 08:49

Odd wording seems to be the way from what I’ve read this year. That’s what DS said about physics.

GingerPussInBoots · 25/05/2025 08:53

What are you doing to help them with the odd wording what are they doing ?
dh had a suggestion of asking chat gpt to word questions in 10 different ways

any other ideas

tecnique really does seem such a Big part of it

Why do you think they do this odd wording thing ?

NCTDN · 25/05/2025 09:06

I have no idea why they do it but it’s annoying ! It’s like they want children to fail Confused

That’s exactly what my dh said !
it doenst seem the most genuine way to really test their knowledge or understanding

halloween67 · 25/05/2025 09:22

My DD said the same, it’s knocks their confidence and now doubting she has achieved what she can. Did anyones DD or DS say that the Physics AQA was weird too?

Monstermunchy · 25/05/2025 10:28

Is it AQA geography that they all sat? Odd wording of questions was the exact feedback I got from my dc too

mumonthehill · 25/05/2025 10:36

WJEC here for geography. Ds said it was about government policy on migration related to designated urban areas and it threw them all as they had no idea what the question actually meant or what constituted a designated urban area. I actually think it had not been taught so they had no idea!

GingerPussInBoots · 25/05/2025 14:01

Interesting they all found the wording odd, seriously what's the point, the whole system is bonkers with predicted grades etc

Earlymornyawn · 01/06/2025 13:22

Good luck to everyone and their teens this week!
My DC takes their first exam this week, they are very nervous 🤞🤞.

jamimmi · 01/06/2025 17:19

@Earlymornyawn dd starts this week too. Is he bio, chem , maths by any chance that seems to be all left to start! Not thinking about it is her way of coping, but she has been working hard. Just off for a break with a friend to watch the one dance school show she hasn't done in years!

Earlymornyawn · 01/06/2025 18:11

@jamimmi Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science.
Hope that your DD enjoys the show, mine has stressed so much over Maths, I am a bit worried about the other subjects as they are not even planning to study Maths at uni 🤦🏼‍♀️.

Changes17 · 01/06/2025 19:22

All the best to those starting exams this week.! I think it gets easier once they’ve started.

DS has two papers this week - and in three weeks it will all be over.

SheilaFentiman · 01/06/2025 19:59

Aargh, DS1 is so stressed, the half term break hasn’t been much good for him.

Monstermunchy · 01/06/2025 20:52

Yes good luck to those just starting - only 2 left here, one Wed and last one a week tomorrow - why they don’t spread all subjects out more, I’ll never know.

Only two left ?! DS had them all ! He’s spent every day during half term in college.

Some of ds’s friends haven’t started yet either - but his were very much front loaded - he had 3 the week before half term in the space of 36 hrs!

jamimmi · 01/06/2025 22:17

@Earlymornyawn she did thanks , went for a walk with her friend too. Now back working which is all she has done 1/2 term . I hope maths goes ok for them both its her issue subject, but we found a fab tutor last August who has helped! Just have had to reminded her to give all subjects the same attention.

@Changes17 I hope it does get better, role on Wednesday! Just hope it goes OK for the first one.

@NCTDN I don't envy him that 36 hours. Dd has 4 the last week but at least it's one a day. No idea why they don't spread them a little more , her subjects are a common combo. Even one before the break would have helped!
