I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

Apparently the bio exam after the practical was easy so now they are all worried that the grade boundaries will be high!!

NCTDN · 31/03/2025 18:30

This thread wasn’t on my ‘I’m on’ list any more!
DS has picked his firm and insurance choices now.

mumonthehill · 08/04/2025 06:43

Hope everyone is ok, i am sure some of you on Easter hols but we still have this week to go. Exams heading towards us fast!

Changes17 · 08/04/2025 09:06

Easter holidays here. Theoretically, that means full days of revision. Don’t think that’s actually happening though…

NCTDN · 08/04/2025 09:08

Ds is now on Easter holidays but has gone into college to revise today.

Thethingswedoforlove · 08/04/2025 09:18

My dd2 is doing the IB (state school!) so exams are approaching really fast indeed. She is working far too hard and I am worrying she will burn herself out. In contrast to her at uni sister who needs to be working crazily hard but who isn’t ! This feels like the stressful bit. Plus work is very busy and my parents’ need of me is much higher than it was two years ago when they both had significant exams. But one day at a time is my mantra. We will get through it. All of us and all of our dcs.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 08/04/2025 09:54

Term finishes on Friday for DD. She says all lessons are just revision and practising papers now. They've all had 1-1s with their personal tutors asking what their future plans are, reminding them to look into student finance, Uni accommodation etc. DD is planning her Easter holidays, a couple of get togethers with friends at different colleges but mostly revision.

I can't believe how quickly the two years have gone.

BonjourCrisette · 08/04/2025 11:31

DD has been on holiday for a while already. She's taking it slow and steady with the revision, just a couple of hours on weekdays and having lots of downtime and fun with friends.

DC firmed Nottingham and applied for and confirmed accommodation. Leeds insurance. Definitely relieved that's sorted and can be forgotten, now just need to get the grades.

Seems to be finding a balance between work and play and not too many meltdowns!

mumonthehill · 08/04/2025 18:54

@Tiggerspal ds first choice Notts as well! Its all a bit laid back here.....

DC just said of all the places, that's where they felt they'd be the happiest, which I guess is the most important thing.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 13/04/2025 18:22

DS2 had his last offer arrive from Bath and he's now saying he wants to go there, rather than Durham. Tbh I think this is probably a good ide,a but he'd seemed so set on Durham it's a bit of a curve ball. He's decided on Exeter as his insurance.

His school have put on a couple of lessons in the holidays and he's attended those, apparently a 100% take-up.

Good luck to all our young people

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/04/2025 09:09

Brilliant to hear of all the offers coming in and plans being made. DC1 spent last week having a break from college work and doing a couple of days' paid work. We're back from a weekend away visiting family and watching DC2 perform, and this week she plans to knuckle down a bit. I'm off work so will have a go at motivating her, or at least chucking brews and toast at her at regular intervals. DC1 is still waiting for a offer/rejection from one of her university choices so no decisions yet, but if rejected she has offers on the table that she's happy with.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/04/2025 20:33

We have now applied for accommodation. It’s a lottery though so who knows if we will get any of our (7) choices. Prices have gone up a fair bit since I looked at last years prices.

Changes17 · 14/04/2025 20:38

At Sheffield @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky? I noticed that when DS went for the offer day.

Changes17 · 14/04/2025 20:39

Though it just brings it up to what others in the region charge…

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/04/2025 20:42

@Changes17 York. 9.5k for some of the non catered a year!

NCTDN · 14/04/2025 20:46

@Changes17sheffield accommodation you choose your exact flat.

Changes17 · 14/04/2025 21:03

Ah, yes. That makes sense. Thanks both.

mumonthehill · 15/04/2025 06:49

When ds went to Nottingham Trent he got to pick his exact room but ds with uni of Nottingham has put in 3 choices and i think will hear before results day where he is. Not much revision here and I am not doing that well at biting my tongue!!!

DS2 had his visit to Bath yesterday and really liked it. Durham is on Saturday but they're travelling up tomorrow as it's over 300 miles away from us. I think Bath still has the edge for him but we'll see.

Unfortunately my lovely MIL is very unwell and expected to pass at any time now. DS2 is really close to her and it was unexpected (from seemingly fit and well 7 weeks ago), so it's all a bit difficult. My mum passed just before he started secondary school and it's all just so sad.

I hope all our young people are doing well, and good luck to them (and us!) In the weeks ahead CakeBrewFlowers

Changes17 · 24/04/2025 14:54

I'm very sorry to hear that @PennywisePoundFoolish. Wishing you all the best at what must be a difficult time.

Changes17 · 24/04/2025 14:56

Also heading to Durham this weekend for the last of DS' offer days. Hopefully it will help to clarify his feelings on which uni/course to choose.
