I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

York is an excellent choice!

Changes17 · 08/03/2025 09:58

DS and DH off to Sheffield offer day today - they have great weather for it!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 08/03/2025 10:41

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky good to have decisions made! The York campus is so lovely.

@Changes17 hope the offer holder day goes well. Sheffield is ace, and feels like a very student-friendly city.

Mocks results back, no disasters, but not a whole lot of wriggle room either. A level recital in three weeks, but also 18th birthday celebrations to fit in before then 😊.

We’re just back from it - uni was fab as was the weather

Changes17 · 08/03/2025 21:01

They had a great day from the sound of it. Glad your visit went well too @Monstermunchy. Just the Durham offer day to go now, then it’s decision time.

Good to hear their day went well too - my dc has decided Sheffield is their first choice now

NCTDN · 08/03/2025 22:10

Think we'll need a Sheffield MN meet up in September Grin

Tiggerspal · 13/03/2025 19:34

DC had an offer from Bath this afternoon (for Economics). Seems totally convinced it's between Nottingham and Leeds so very unlikely to take Bath any further but always nice to be wanted!

mumonthehill · 14/03/2025 09:13

@Tiggerspal that is great to get that offer!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 17/03/2025 17:27

So my daughter has finally had her Edinburgh offer. She is still set on York but didn’t want to withdraw from Edinburgh as she wanted to see if she could get an offer. It was lower than she expected but not enough to tempt her away from York.

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2025 19:15

Lovely to get the offer, even if not taking it. Congrats.
It’s hard to turn a great uni like Edinburgh down when you know it’s so sought after and well thought of. But if your DC is in love with York and totally sure, that makes turning them down or just insuringxeasier.

mumonthehill · 18/03/2025 05:44

Brilliant @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky ! Hoping offers are now in for most .

Changes17 · 18/03/2025 07:40

Great to hear so many offers now received. Just over two months to the first exams now! DS says he’s revising…

PennywisePoundFoolish · 18/03/2025 08:05

Wonderful to read the updates, it's all getting very real now.
DS2 has offers from Durham, York, Loughborough and Exeter and is waiting to hear from Bath. His mind seems to be made up on Durham 1st choice with Exeter as his insurance.

I have some doubts over Durham being the best match for him tbh but it's his choice. And Year 11/beginning of 6th form it was unthinkable he'd be in the position to go to any university, so I just try and remind myself there's far worse worries to have!

Good luck to all our young people over the coming weeks Flowers

mumonthehill · 18/03/2025 12:38

Ds apparently booked accommodation at his insurance choice this morning!!! He dod not put down a deposit so no real idea what he has done. Waiting for Nottingham to open up theirs in a few weeks. Welsh Bacc causing stress here, an additional thing ds really did not need. Biology practical and chemistry practical coming fast, he is not looking forward to that!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 18/03/2025 12:56

Well my daughters school have put her predicted grade for one subject up a grade. It’s only internal but it just gives her another stress.

I know what she’s like - she will think she’s done crap if she doesn’t get it. However she doesn’t need it for her first choice and she was quite content with the lower grade.

My daughter also wants to go to York.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 18/03/2025 15:43

Very exciting to hear of all the offers and decisions. And such a great update from @PennywisePoundFoolish - I remember your DS's difficulties at the start of Y12 and it's so good to hear that things are now on a more even keel.

DC's A level Music recital is in a couple of days - I had mistakenly thought it was further off, but that's a different concert. This is 30% of the final mark which is a bit scary. Hopefully the milder weather continues, as her instrument runs a bit flat when cold!

Pollyanna8234 · 18/03/2025 16:48

@TheTurn0fTheScrew good luck to your DC. DS has his tomorrow morning and has the same issue with his instrument! Their teacher organised a practice recital with audience (for those that were happy with an audience) earlier this month. He played last and struggled with a dry throat, so he knows to drink before the exam at least

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 18/03/2025 17:34

Good luck @Pollyanna8234@TheTurn0fTheScrew

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 18/03/2025 23:26

@Pollyanna8234 good luck to your DS for tomorrow. At least it's a step on the road towards being finished!

Changes17 · 19/03/2025 07:34

All the best to all those doing music recitals!

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 20/03/2025 11:05

Yes it's starting to feel real now. DD has drawn up a revision timetable and started following it yesterday (although TBF they have exams all the time so she's revising all the time really). I think her first exam is the Spanish speaking one sometime in April.

She hasn't confirmed her firm/insurance with UCAS yet because she wanted to do the offer holding days first and has visited Lancaster and definitely wants to firm it but the Bangor date is in April. The Lancaster accommodation hub opens in April and ideally she'd like to register then. But she doesn't want to make Bangor her insurance until she's done the offer day!

Are they allowed to firm one uni but choose an insurance before the deadline in June or do they have to select both at the same time?

mumonthehill · 26/03/2025 10:28

We have biology practical today and ds rather stressed last night!! No revision timetable done yet but I am trying to let him get on with it as questions seem to receive answers in grunt form!!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 26/03/2025 21:22

hope the practical went well @mumonthehill. I don't get much feedback either!
