Noticed the current thread is almost full so thought I better start a new one for discussing results day and our DC’s plans for uni/gap years or anything else!

@PumpkinKnitter thats great shes got chatting online. DD is doing the same with zoo biology students :) The eldest. Freshers was kind of like a holiday for her lots to do, having fun, seeing the new city. Then first week the work starts and it hit her then that she was actually doing a degree. 4 years later and shes on a break now between her exams back in may, then graduating in July and phd 1st of october. She does miss the learning though.

Rollergirl11 · 21/08/2024 08:40

DD is still awaiting her accommodation allocation for Exeter and she’s driving me potty! I’m hoping she hears today for my own sanity.

We have DS’s GCSE results tomorrow and he (and me) is pretty anxious about them. Just hoping he gets what he needs to stay on at his schools sixth form.

We have GCSE results tomorrow too but we did hear about Exeter accommodation yesterday although got one that wasn’t a preference. Looks nice though so happy here. Hope you hear today and fingers crossed for tomorrow !

Good luck for tomorrow @Tealfish and @Tulipvase! 🤞

Do you mind me asking what accommodation you got yesterday @Tealfish?

Moberly. It’s a bit further out than was wanted but looks very nice and has a bigger bed which at 6’2 is a positive … cardiac hill will do them good!!

Rollergirl11 · 21/08/2024 10:20

DD really liked the look of Moberly @Tealfish as nice and new and modern and yes the big bed a bonus! It was one of her choices. She’s just heard and has got one of her choices so she’s happy now.

Glad your Dd has got one of her choices @Rollergirl11 😊

We had fhe double A Level and GCSE results combo 2 years ago - was a very stressful time. Glad there was only one of them getting results this year!

LouisCatorze · 21/08/2024 15:55

Good that your young people got accommodation they're happy with @Tealfish @Rollergirl11 and @Tulipvase .

Good luck with GCSE results to all those waiting to get them tomorrow.

DD reckons that after a year's break from academic study (and working for nine of the next 12 months), she'll be more than ready to challenge her grey cells again. We shall see.

Having kept her school folders of A Level work just in case she needed them (had resits been necessary), all materials have now been consigned to paper recycling. Good to get rid of some of the clutter in her room.

Tulipvase · 21/08/2024 15:58

Oh that’s a good idea @LouisCatorze I shall get my daughter onto that!

WombatChocolate · 21/08/2024 16:03

DC going to Durham had their college confirmed on results day - same as provisional allocation. I’d heard that this has been v slow in past, so seems better so far. Then had offer of room and contract with request for £200 payment within the next week to secure accommodation. All fine. It’s a college where almost all rooms are shared bathroom with single bed, so knew that’s what they’d be getting.
Is working through uni registration, setting up IT account etc. it’s quite complicated but seems to be moving forward.
Has also got a list of college events during Freshers Week which looks like a good mix of clubbing and things like board game nights and more low key stuff, as well as uni wide events and fresher’s fair. Academic stuff is still to come for freshers. But seems there will be plenty to do.,which is a good thing.
Start weekend is 28th so seems a bit later than some unis, but not as late as Oxbridge. I’m looking forward to some trips to the shops with DC.

ShanghaiDiva · 21/08/2024 16:28

Accommodation not yet confirmed for Bath. University is aware of her health condition so hopefully she will get her preferred choice.
Think she needs to move in on 21st September.

aramox1 · 21/08/2024 17:06

We're all irritating eachother here! Ds seems to have v little to do so is lolling in his room; needs money but has failed to get a job, not keen on my helpful suggestions of gym/ voluntary work. Really want to have a nice last few weeks !

Jaxx · 21/08/2024 18:31

Best of luck for those with GCSE results tomorrow!

Great to heats lots of accommodation details coming through and people are happy on the whole. We’ve got college confirmation and should get room type in the next week.

@WombatChocolate The Durham IT was a bit of a pain. It would have saved so much time if they had included in the initial email that you need to wait for the system to update overnight before trying to log on to Banner to register/enrol. If you look on blackboard.durham.ac.uk there is some induction/transition stuff he might find useful.

QueenMabby · 21/08/2024 21:27

We're still waiting for Lancaster accommodation. DS was a clearing applicant so just hoping and crossing fingers he gets something on campus.

Penguinsa · 21/08/2024 21:48

Hope you get accommodation on campus QueenMabby and good luck to those awaiting GCSE results or accommodation.

DD is finally clearing her room and 9 sacks of rubbish have been created which council will collect later this week.

She leaves for university we think on 7th October so pretty late. She has just received a reading list but just has a few books on it. Hopefully she will read some as she's not got Economics A level, Management should be fine as there's some crossover with her Business A level. She's managed to find all the others on her course at her college, she's the only state one and one of the others she chats to quite a lot. I don't think she finds out room until day of arrival but think they are all single and its either in college or 5 mins walk, some ensuite, some not and very little price difference so doesn't matter much.

She's meeting friends from primary on Friday who are also off to university this year from our old area. In a week or so she's off to Venice with another friend. Then goes with boyfriend's family to Bristol Uni to drop him off. Also been going to social events with his family and working a bit.

legosnowqueen · 21/08/2024 22:11

Good luck for the GCSE results @Tulipvase @Rollergirl11 @Tealfish - remember that day well!

Tulipvase · 21/08/2024 22:17

Thank you @legosnowqueen

I genuinely don’t know what to expect tomorrow but I’m crossing everything! I feel it’s harder when his sister has just done so well too…..

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 21/08/2024 22:20

Gosh yes it seems so recent - how can it be 2 years ago DS got his GCSE results?!?! All the best to those getting them tomorrow!

sammyjoanne · 21/08/2024 23:16

@QueenMabby Daughter had it as first choice, picked her accommodation when the portal opened in June, and im pretty sure it was the 24th or around that time as we was in a caravan for a week in Wales we found out which college accommodation she was in. She was in a Grizedale townhouse and graduated with her college :) Theres plenty of accommodation on campus.

stoneysongs · 22/08/2024 06:36

Good luck for GCSE results this morning, I hope they all get what they need 🤞

QueenMabby · 22/08/2024 09:25

Good luck for all GCSE results. DD took one this year (a year early) and got a 9 so was thrilled.

MrsAvocet · 22/08/2024 11:37

Hope there's been good news for all those getting GCSE results today. It must be incredibly stressful for those with both in the same year. Hope you can all really enjoy the last few weeks of the holidays now.
Nothing much to report here. DS seems to have everything in control and I am feeling slightly redundant, but I guess I'd better get used to that. He's working a lot at the moment, trying to swell the coffers before he leaves, so we're barely seeing him.
