Thread 33 - Lovely Jubbly Jubilee Break, then back to Exams

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 27/05/2022 17:10

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board. Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future?

NCTDN · 27/05/2022 18:29

Wow look at all those firm offers Shock

NCTDN · 27/05/2022 18:32

@Hattifatteners what accommodation is your dd hoping for at Bristol?

Oblomov22 · 27/05/2022 18:41

Thanks Orange. And Singing. Cracking job. As always.

And as per the thread title. Here's my Dorset Caravan Bunting. Which made me weirdly extremely happy, I know not why.

Nard75 · 27/05/2022 18:42

Thanks @singingstones and @OrangeCinnamonCroissant scary seeing all those firm choices. I wish DS would make some kind of decision very soon.

Oblomov22 · 27/05/2022 18:45

NCT and Nard, there's no rush, to firm. But what are you DD and DS pondering? Maybe over 1/2 term they could talk to you, clarify, and then make a decision they are happy with?

Oblomov22 · 27/05/2022 18:50

Sorry. Not NCT.

Hattifatteners · 27/05/2022 19:12

@NCTDN I think Goldney is her favourite followed by Riverside. She is not overly keen on Stoke Bishop. What about your DD?

NCTDN · 27/05/2022 19:46

@Hattifatteners she's the opposite. She wants SB, ideally catered. Personally I think it's extortionate for the basic rooms but it's her choice!

Hattifatteners · 27/05/2022 20:02

@NCTDN that's interesting. DD is vegetarian and really dislikes the idea of catered option. Not to mention the cost of it. She doesn't like spending money when she doesn't need to 😊

crazycrofter · 27/05/2022 20:21

Thanks for the new thread! I hope ds chooses soon @Nard75 - not long til the deadline!

Chakraleaf · 27/05/2022 21:06

I'm quite new. Ds is going to Chichester.

Fiddlersgreen · 27/05/2022 21:49

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeCinnamonCroissant
and the new updated list @singingstones

HarrietDVane · 27/05/2022 22:04

Thanks for the new thread and updated list!

Happy half term all - hope those DC with exams today had good questions.

singingstones · 27/05/2022 22:20

Ooh what's his course there, @Chakraleaf?

Wheresthebeach · 27/05/2022 22:59

Thanks orange and singing. Always appreciate those who organise!

Monkey2001 · 28/05/2022 07:26

@NCTDN has she looked at Clifton Hill House? Same price for catered, better location (next to Goldney), nice old bit with modernish annex. Catered is expensive at £8,085.

EspeciallyDistracted · 28/05/2022 08:15

Ah, here you all are, I wondered why the old thread had stopped updating in TIO. Thanks for the new one @OrangeCinnamonCroissant and for the updated list @singingstones

Welcome @Chakraleaf my DS applied to Chichester for History, I really liked it but he has decided to accept elsewhere.

@Oblomov22 is your caravan a static? I saw you mention it on a different thread the other day. We aren't in the market for a second home but I do get tempted by static caravans and we are close enough to the south coast to make it feasible for weekends.

Oblomov22 · 28/05/2022 08:54

No ED. It's a tourer, one you can move/tow. But kind of embarrassingly we've never had it anywhere other than this one Dorset site! 18 Years ago our neighbour who came here for years said that his Caravan was becoming too much for him and did we want to buy his. We did and then have upgraded twice.

They store them down here for a small price and then when you book your pitch you pay for them to pull it out from there storage field onto your pitch for the time that you are there.

But my sil ( I have 6!) had had a static near Norwich for years. And my bil has one in west wittering. And my other bil had just bought one near Portsmouth /Southampton, so if I can help in any way, please ask away.

Chewbecca · 28/05/2022 09:26

Btw, for the above table, DS's firmed offer (Loughborough) is AAA and insured (Strathclyde) is BBB.

Quite an unusually broad gap in required grades but that's just how it panned out. He originally applied aiming for 3 x AAA offers, hoped for AAB from Lboro and AAB from Strathclyde. But Lboro offer came in at AAA (oversubscribed last year) & then he found he really liked it on offer holder days. He needs a good dose of luck to achieve an A in biology but he really likes Strathclyde (& is unsure why it isn't more popular!) so I think he will be fine.

ealingwestmum · 28/05/2022 09:34

thanks for the new thread Orange and keeping us updated on status Singing

NCTDN · 28/05/2022 09:47

Monkey2001 · 28/05/2022 07:26

No for some reason she wants SB. When we did the open day, she heard it was the most social and that's stuck with her.

icanbewhatiwant · 28/05/2022 09:59

I need to comment otherwise the thread doesn't stay in my watch list.

EspeciallyDistracted · 28/05/2022 10:28

That sounds like a good system @Oblomov22, I know people who have kept tourers on site all summer and stored them for winter but not come across a site that moves it on and off. We have no storage space at home and DH isnt keen on towing. We have looked at the seasonal pitches on some sites when we’ve been staying in statics and some have looked very hemmed in, close together. In one a lot had their awnings filled with sofas, TVs etc which put me off a bit as I like peace and quiet. I like a bit of socialising with fellow campers but a bit of space too. We stayed on a lovely site near New Milton that only had 18 statics which was what set me off thinking about it. Hampshire/Dorset coast would be my preference, from about Lymington westwards. I might come back to pick your brains!

Better go, off to London with DS to the football exhibition at the Design Museum, will report back.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 28/05/2022 10:32

Thanks for the new post, orange, and for the very exciting/nerve wracking updated list, singing.

Glorious weather here today, but other than walking the dog, I don’t think I’ll get much chance to enjoy it - DH has performances this afternoon and evening, and both DCs will require constant food/chivvying/ me to listen to them tell me everything they know about geography/history/any other A level/GCSE subject.
