I tried to sing the title... It kind of works...

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

That’s brilliant news @PaddingtonPaddington! I had to look up the initials to see which one that is! She must have really impressed them.

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail phew! She’s got a good grasp of negotiation really - it’s always a good idea to reference a more senior person and make out that you may be reasonable but they definitely won’t be! Takes the heat off you but scares them into doing what you want them to do!

Dd decided to look at virtual tours of Manchester yesterday - might have been a good idea to do before she applied there, but fortunately she really likes the look of it! I think she’s feeling totally unmotivated for next week’s extra mocks. The SENCO said she won’t be getting extra time but she might ‘go on a list of people to be assessed’ which sounds like she’s fobbing me off. I’m so annoyed she got extra time in the mocks before half term as it made her realise she needed it. I don’t think she feels very confident about getting her predicted grades without it. Hopefully she will get some contextual offers.

EwwSprouts · 03/12/2021 13:20

@singingstones So pleased you have a plan B in hand!

@PaddingtonPaddington Congratulations!

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail Well done your DD. I love that she weaponised you.

Big sigh of relief that DS's application has now gone off. Physics teacher upped the predicted grade at the 11th hour and 59th minute.

20newnames · 03/12/2021 13:32

My Mum is very involved and would not be satisfied with that answer

I love it Grin

Fruitygal · 03/12/2021 13:43

@PaddingtonPaddington congratulations 🎉!!!

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail great it’s finally off !!

Monkey2001 · 03/12/2021 13:45

Loving the feel-good Friday news, keep it coming!

Well done DC of @PaddingtonPaddington, @OrangeCinnamonCocktail and @EwwSprouts

ealingwestmum · 03/12/2021 13:46

Another result EwwSprouts, this community’s on fire!

Wheresthebeach · 03/12/2021 13:58

paddington - fab! Glad it's gone off Orange - like her style.

Ewwsprouts - good news on the grade!

ChristopherTracy · 03/12/2021 14:48

This is marvellous stuff all round!

singingstones · 03/12/2021 14:51

Lovely news Orange and Eww, sit back, relax and wait for those offers and auditions to roll in.
Relax - ha!

Volterra · 03/12/2021 14:55

All really good news, so lovely to see !

Had report for DS. Apparently he can now cook independently for his many flatmates and does so with enthusiasm and great results. I have a feeling DS will disagree about the enthusiasm, he’ll say that’s a cut and paste job that he writes for everyone 😂

Fruitygal · 03/12/2021 15:10

DDs friend who had a disrupted BMAT experience which led to a less than stellar result plus a couple of rejections and was feeling super glum and looking at reapplying next year just got an interview for Nottingham for medicine!! DD texted me from school and I did a happy dance. She is a fab girl, an outstanding student and will make a great doctor (She took charge and looked after DD so well when she was taken very unwell earlier this year while at school). It's so tough for them all at the moment - lovely to hear good news xx

Zebracat · 03/12/2021 16:26

Lots of good news here. How did it go@Alsoplayspiccolo?
Ours finally got sent off yesterday. Just bursting with excitement now, have to keep reminding myself how many applications they probably got yesterday.

Shimy · 03/12/2021 17:04

Fruity I'm so happy for your DD's friend. Wish her all the best with the interview.

To those who have just sent off their UCAS forms, that's a load of your minds now. Let the offers roll in! good luck. Wine

Singing That was canny of you Smile. Fantastic result, I'm so pleased for you.

My only update is I've been in Ikea all afternoon. First time since the pandemic hit. I should've known better! hips have flared up (burisitis) and can barely walk. I did think wryly that Ikea was ahead of it's time with its one way traffic system in store. Just as I felt my legs were going to buckle I spotted the 'meatballs' and limped over to grab a bag. I'm now icing both sides whilst mning..but at least I got the meatballs.Hmm

Nard75 · 03/12/2021 17:40

The good news is that the school internal deadline is 10 December so DS will have to submit this week. Apparently it has been checked by school and just needs paying for so will see what happens this weekend. He has been muttering at getting me to pay for it but I said I will need to check as well to make sure all ok.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 03/12/2021 17:54

Argh! Sorry to have been AWOL this afternoon - had to have an extended glaucoma eye check, with scans etc and my pupils have been too dilated to be able to look at a screen until now.

Paddington, that is brilliant news about RWCMD - brava to your DD! Not sure if you remember but DS is on the advanced course at the junior college and DH went to the senior college, and we have lots of friends who teach there (including the director, Tim). singing, I was at conservatoire in London with Rachel Podger - she hasn’t changed a bit!

Well done to everyone whose DC has finally managed to press the submit button on their ucas form, and Orange, I think we all need to take lessons from your DD on how to deal with tricky situations!!

Our meeting with the head was really positive. Without having to mention the bursar, we were able to give her a very full and frank picture of our financial situation pre/during/ post Covid and just how difficult life is and what that means for future plans.
She had no idea and was hugely sympathetic and kind, saying that they didn’t want to lose DS and that it was extremely helpful to know the full story and she would go away and see what the school could do to help us.
So, I feel better for having the chance to offload and I’m hopeful that she’ll talk to the bursar and ask him to at least cut us a bit of slack in his dealings with us, knowing the stress we’re under.
I was fully prepared to rant about him but she was so empathetic when we told her what our position is, I didn’t need to.

EwwSprouts · 03/12/2021 18:05

Piccolo Another positive outcome! Lovely to hear the head appreciates your DS's contribution to the school community.

Shimy · 03/12/2021 18:09

@PaddingtonPaddington I missed you off my previous post. Congratulations, that sounds awesome. I just googled RWCMD, (as I didn't know what it was), you must be chuffed to bits!

Oblomov21 · 03/12/2021 18:10

Hoorah for piccolo and sprouts too.

Shimy · 03/12/2021 18:11

@Oblomov21

Hoorah for piccolo and sprouts too.
Hurrrah!Hurrah!
Monkey2001 · 03/12/2021 18:29

What a successful Friday!

PaddingtonPaddington · 03/12/2021 18:37

Well done on the ucas applications going off today @OrangeCinnamonCocktail, @EwwSprouts and @Zebracat

@Alsoplayspiccolo glad all went well with the school today and thanks for the info

Thanks for all the lovely comments. As both offers are in that’s it for DD, acceptance is done by 3 January (according to ucas conservatoire process). DD just wants to do the offer holder day then press the button. Annoyingly ucas hasn’t updated with the offer yet despite the emails but probably worrying over nothing!

crazycrofter · 03/12/2021 18:40

Well done everybody! @Nard75 good plan about needing to check it! @Alsoplayspiccolo the head sounds lovely and it’s great that they really appreciate your ds.

AnneOfCleavage · 03/12/2021 19:03

Brilliant news Paddington well done to your DD.

Very impressed with your DD Orange and her carefully worded nonchalant reply to her teacher. Glad her form has gone off ✅

I'd follow that line up crazycrofter and see if you can get extra time. Just a nudge here and and reminder there especially if she had extra time before.

Whoop whoop on upgraded UCAS prediction for your DS EwwSprouts and lovely the form has got sent off Zebra - great start to the weekend.

Lovely news for your DD's friend Fruitygal and great to hear your DS is good at the cooking Volterra - can he do a dish for Christmas lunch this year for you?

Mmmm we had meatballs for dinner tonight too Shimy but I didn't have to go round IKEA for hours for them. Hope your hips are resting now.

That is brilliant news on the meeting with the head Alsoplays and you were very restraint not throwing the beastly bursar under the bus where he deserved to go. Will you stay on do you think or will you see how the audition goes at the other place and make a decision then?

singingstones · 03/12/2021 19:14

So who is still left to submit the form? Also, @BlueMarigold I think, @NCTDN maybe? And me of course. @Heifer?

ealingwestmum · 03/12/2021 19:17

I think ican’s son also not quite there yet?
