I tried to sing the title... It kind of works...

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Thanks all - cant quite believe it from where we were earlier this year.

@DoggerelBankthat is tough - what is the school's provision for pupils with Covid can you ask? Presumably you would be in the same boat of being able to do them at home if in isolation? or later?

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 20:27

DD just got her offer from Sheffield!! Super happy AAB or ABB with a B in EPQ (especially when not a science one) no cavets around if firm or not, so perfect!

She’s smiley and getting on with her maths while beating me at Only Connect - multitasking 😂😂 !

Now to forget things UCAS for a bit until after Christmas when Durham decides. Mock revision continues …..

ealingwestmum · 29/11/2021 20:31

Good to hear her happy with that offer Fruitygal, yes to a household moving on from UCAS related stuff! Not quite there yet…

Wheresthebeach · 29/11/2021 20:31

I know @Shimy its so odd.

I've always thought the phrase 'well, it's their loss' was a bit petulant. But in this instance I actually think it is! She's Aspie - and very funny, creative etc. Just bizarre.

Monkey2001 · 29/11/2021 20:35

@ChristopherTracy congratulations on the offers. Where are his top choices?

ChristopherTracy · 29/11/2021 20:39

Warwick (not a chance I should think) and Nottingham @Monkey2001

Congrats @Fruitygal!

EwwSprouts · 29/11/2021 20:39

@Fruitygal Great news from Sheffield! DS has progressed to seeing teacher for final review of PS...

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 20:49

@ealingwestmum I know we are lucky but mocks start a week today so having all the offers in bar Durham has given her focus and relaxed her simultaneously.

@EwwSprouts glad you are on the home straight with the form.

Lots of DDs friends with Oxbridge or medic interviews but equal numbers with rejections despite amazing predicted grades etcetc.

3-4% chance of an offer for an Oxford subject degree that DD considered so can see how many don’t get an interview especially if Oxford who interview far less than Cambridge. Think you always need a second favourite if you apply to Oxbridge.

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 20:50

Thanks for the congratulations 🎉

ProggyMat · 29/11/2021 21:06

@ChristopherTracy fabulous news! Well done to your DS! Smile
@Monkey2001 Wow! two medicine interviews and a driving test pass- an extra well done !!!!

Nard75 · 29/11/2021 21:32

@Volterra didn't your DS do the MAT as well maybe he will do better in that one. DS did well in the TMUA he got 3 marks above what Warwick were asking for last year so hopefully that will be enough. Let's hope he will get his application in now

Monkey2001 · 29/11/2021 21:34

@Fruitygal - great news on Sheffield! Totally agree that throwing your heart at Oxbridge ends in tears for many.

@ProggyMat DS has not actually had the invitations to interview yet, we just know that due to the way they select he will get them as his UCAT was over 3000 and he meets all the other requirements.

ealingwestmum · 29/11/2021 21:35

Monkey I seemed to have missed those medical interviews…congratulations to your DS! DD has lots of aspiring medic friends and most are still waiting…

ealingwestmum · 29/11/2021 21:36

Oh scrub that last comment. We wait with baited breath news from you, Sandy and Kingscote.

Volterra · 29/11/2021 21:49

Nard75 that’s great, well done your DS. Got DS’s results, they were ok but not reduced Warwick offer level which is fine as he wasn’t planning on applying there. He did MAT but I doubt he scored highly as he only did one practice paper in the end by the sound of it - 1 more than he did for TMUA though I think !

Luckily he’s fine as has an offer from Bath which is likely to be first choice as after being ill not too far from home is a major consideration . Just needs a lower one for insurance. Where else is your DS thinking of applying to?

crazycrofter · 29/11/2021 21:51

Ooh, lots of good news! Well done to the offspring of @fruitygal, @ChristopherTracy and @Nard75! Must be lovely to have offers/good results back.

Dd handed her PS in! Now she’s trying to pick 5 from Bath, Southampton, Nottingham, York, Lancaster, Manchester, Cardiff, maybe Sheffield (I think!).

ealingwestmum · 29/11/2021 21:53

She’s getting there Crazy!

ProggyMat · 29/11/2021 21:56

@Monkey2001 Mea culpa! I’m skim reading as rushed off my feet at work and my brain is perhaps also addled after waiting nearly 5 hours this morning for the AA roadside assistant truck!
I haven’t a clue about how medicine applicants are selected for interview but fingers crossed for interview invites!
@ealingwestmum I second that!
Fingers crossed for Sandy and @KingscoteStaff DD’s!!!

Nard75 · 29/11/2021 21:56

@Volterra after Warwick he is thinking Manchester, Nottingham and Aston. Not sure about the last one but I am hoping that he will submit in the next couple of weeks.

Wheresthebeach · 29/11/2021 22:22

Lovely news @Fruitygal.

@crazycrofter - sounds like you're getting close!

ealingwestmum · 29/11/2021 22:28

Ah no worries Proggy, we must have one of the fastest moving threads ever Smile

Hope you were stuck somewhere safe waiting for the AA in this weather. The last time I had to wait for breakdown was in the 3rd lane (overtaking one) of M6 Manchester, coned off by police. They put me there because it was safer than the hard shoulder where lorries were dropping like dominos due to the severe winds. Never been so scared that I was going to be shunted at 90mph. Am lucky that London is more protected from the elements compared to most areas!

Monkey2001 · 29/11/2021 22:49

@ProggyMat 5 hours 😮 hope you felt safe and warm. @ealingwestmum that sounds terrifying.

ProggyMat · 30/11/2021 06:28

@ealingwestmum Shock Thankfully not on the outside lane of a motorway!
It was absolutely freezing though as temperatures haven’t got much above freezing these last few days. We’ve had 80 mph winds and snow.
AA chap- when I eventually got through- said he’d never seen it as busy for call outs. Breakdown guy said he’s never stopped over the weekend fishing cars out from under trees or ‘unwrapping’ them from around lampposts.
It’s been a wild weekend.

BlueMarigold · 30/11/2021 06:50

Yay! Congratulations @Fruitygal and anyone else who got more offers. It’s all very exciting. I think our form has not been sent off as DDs teacher is off with a chest infection.

Fruitygal · 30/11/2021 07:15

Thanks @BlueMarigold - frustrating about the teacher being ill but can’t help a chest infection - is there another teacher that could do it?
