Corona Cohort: Statements Scripted, Grades Predicted

Monkey2001 · 20/09/2021 23:04

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

From OrangeCinnamonCocktail:

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@crazycrofter

A BTEC in esports? What is that about?

Monkey2001 · 08/10/2021 14:17

Haha @BlueMarigold some websites just try to be too clever.

@crazycrofter what a nuisance, but what would the poor DC without parents available for taxi services do?! Can your DD use it for driving practice?

BlueMarigold · 08/10/2021 14:21

@crazycrofter could you go with her on the bus the first time to show her the route so she can go by herself the rest of the week?

stoneysongs · 08/10/2021 14:38

Must share... after months of "shall we get a physics tutor? No, I don't want a tutor", DS - currently predicted C and needs a B, not doing any work, disheartened, won't engage - has just asked for a tutor. 🥳

This is huge, him asking for help instead of just pretending it's all not happening. And it's something that we've been suggesting since January to no avail. So thanks to Also and Monkey for the sound advice. Honestly I feel like skipping around the house but actually need to write a list and go food shopping.

Monkey2001 · 08/10/2021 14:38

@crazycrofter or maybe you could drive her to a point on a single bus route, so a hybrid model of independence!

Fabulous singing, here’s to starting to see his confidence grow once the support kicks in...

Monkey2001 · 08/10/2021 14:46

@singingstones 🎆🎆🎆🎉

Omg he's on the Xbox and singing "With a little help from my friends" to himself 😂😭

crazycrofter · 08/10/2021 15:30

Aw that’s great @singingstones. Extra work is much more bearable when you’ve chosen it yourself and you have a goal in mind! That’s an important milestone for him.

To be honest, I don’t think I could be bothered with a route that involved four buses and took an hour and a half! She’s only had one driving lesson which was entirely in first gear so not at the driving practice stage yet! Never mind..

Alsoplayspiccolo · 08/10/2021 16:06

Ah, singing, that’s made my day! I really hope a tutor inspires him to rise to his full capabilities 🤩 Well done to him for realising that mum knows best Wink

Piggywaspushed · 08/10/2021 16:10

DS has an offer!!!

Decorhate · 08/10/2021 16:19

@Piggywaspushed Fantastic!

Delphigirl · 08/10/2021 16:21

Oooh just catching up on this thread after a super busy week. Piggy I’m so excited! For where/what?

Shimy · 08/10/2021 16:21

Congrats @Piggywaspushed. I came to post DS has an offer too.

Monkey2001 · 08/10/2021 16:28

,🍾🎉 are they offers for top choices?

OP posts:
ealingwestmum · 08/10/2021 16:29

Hitting the gong twice Grin Great news Piggy^ and Shimy*!

estherfrewen · 08/10/2021 16:30

Wow well done on the offers!

Delphigirl · 08/10/2021 16:31

Aurgh Shimy!
How wonderful. Dammit I wish DS could put in his form already. Tell us all!

Piggywaspushed · 08/10/2021 16:32

Oh, we should have an actual gong thing like they have in stock exchanges or places where sales are made!

DS's offer is Birmingham so a top choice. AAB standard offer. ABB with A In EPQ but only if a firm choice. (Blackmail not a good look, UoB)

Piggywaspushed · 08/10/2021 16:39

Congrats shimyjr btw

Shimy · 08/10/2021 16:44

No not his top choice. Doin annual accounts whilst mning at mo!

Horace123 · 08/10/2021 16:47

@Piggywaspushed and @Shimy congrats to your DC! How exciting.

I keep thinking DS has an offer because there are lots of “important information about your application” emails. But then they turn out to be “look at the clubs we have” or “click here if you want more information about your course”. Grrrr.

Was a bit surprised by Durham - had to choose a college on UCAS form but now had email asking DS to rank all college choices (didn’t count but looked like about 15) and statement that the choice noted on UCAS will not be relevant.

Exeter said they have a “gathering” approach so will make a snail number of offers before Jan deadline but most will be dealt with after that. All offers will be made by 19 May! That is AGES away.

BlueMarigold · 08/10/2021 16:50

That’s great @Shimy and @Piggywaspushed!

My DDs top choice is Birmingham too. She hasn’t applied yet. What subject is your DS wanting to do again? Is AAB what they publish as their required grades?

Shimy · 08/10/2021 16:53

Offer was Birmingham with exact same conditions as Piggy's ds.

Shimy · 08/10/2021 16:54

I thought the offer was a bit Hmm to be honest.
