Question about voting. DD is registered to vote both at home and at University. She intends to come home next Thursday to vote here, but what is to stop her voting in both places - apart from the fact it is illegal of course. I am genuinely confused.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/12/2019 13:01

There is nothing to stop her aside from the illegality. Hypothetically there could be a cross check across both registers as you get ticked off when you pick up your vote, but the reality is it almost certainly won't happen.

Well that's what I thought. Find it very odd, and open to a lot of abuse.

I just didn't want her to have been struck from our local voting sheet because she had registered at University and to have a wasted journey home.

UrsulaPandress · 06/12/2019 13:18

She will hardly be home at all over Christmas as she is continuing to work. She is down to work until 5pm on Christmas Eve and then back in at 9am on Boxing Day. She is trying to get the Boxing Day shift changed as she will have to leave home at ridiculous O'clock to get there for that time. She has dumped the boyfriend as well.

Ginfordinner · 06/12/2019 14:54

I think DD is enjoying not having a BF to worry about. I don't think she has time for romance just now. Concentrating on working and socialising with her new friends is taking up her time.

She went to a winter ball last night and said it was fun.

I hope this Christmas makes up for last year marmite, and that being at home with some TLC works wonders on your DD NoHaudinMaWheest

raspberryrippleicecream · 07/12/2019 17:39

I hope you have a lovely Christmas Marmite. And that you can feed your DD up Haudin.

DD's last exam is in the afternoon of the 20th. I wasn't allowed to go to her concert last night!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/12/2019 17:41

who stopped you Raspberry?

DD Kitten. She didn't want anyone she knew watching her. I was pleased she'd gone back to playing her instrument this year (she started at 8 and played a lot over the years).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/12/2019 00:07

awwww, it's lovely she's gone back to it!

That is lovely to hear Raspberry! DD took her instrument back with her but as far as I can tell she hasn’t been playing. She did ask for a new (different) instrument for her birthday, one that she has been keen to try for a few years. It needs to stay at home till either we visit in the car or she gets a flight case. I’m not sure which is most likely to happen first!

We decorated our tree here yesterday. It feels a bit early, but the school Christmas tree sale was on Saturday, and we always get one from there, so this weekend it GF to be! I’m feeling quite festive now, but need to start menu planning for my very fussy MIL arriving. She basically lives off M&S ready meals of their plainest plainest food and turns her nose up at anything with too many vegetables in it, or any hint of spice. I’m wondering if we should just have turkey every day...

Knotaknitter · 09/12/2019 20:22

Raspberry I do still ask if I can come to concerts, not that there's anything he could really do to stop me seeing as they are public performances that anyone could walk in to. If he said that he didn't want me there then I would stay away, as it is then it's my excuse for an overnight city break and he gets a full english breakfast to sweeten the deal.

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/12/2019 23:20

We are off to DS1's uni concert on Wednesday, and DS2 has many so we aren't deprived on the concert front!

I do tend to sit at DS1's concerts and think of all the £££s invested, it's great they all still use it.

DS1 is writing personal statements for PhD applications and DS2 for Uniq application ...

Bronzegate · 12/12/2019 01:43

DS comes home tomorrow!!

Bronzegate · 12/12/2019 01:44

(Well today really, but after one sleep, anyway)

Knotaknitter · 17/12/2019 22:13

I like having DS around the house but I'm not so much of a fan of his stuff. I know when he's away he has only the one room but I have lots of rooms so I can have a special one for coats and shoes. We don't have to share a sink so all the dirty dishes there are ours and can be washed by anyone who is passing.

Earlier today I thought I was going to have to tell him to not use the washer but at least I've dodged that one.

Bronzegate · 17/12/2019 22:48

Oh yes, the stuff.

He brought back a large bag of dirty laundry (2-3 loads). He has been out three nights in a row (as in getting back between 2-3 am) but has only found time to do one load of laundry.

In general though, he is mostly very good company and is helpful when asked.

starfleet · 17/12/2019 23:41

DS came home at the weekend. I've hardly seen him. He has been either out or asleep.

He rang me at work today to tell me that "there is literally nothing to eat in this house". I laughed and hung up. The fridge is full of food........

Definitelyrandom · 18/12/2019 14:17

DS has been back a couple of days, catching up on sleep - very cheerful and laid back apart from complaining that it's much colder at home than he's been used to. We have had the "no food in the house" comment as well - as I watched him fry 4 eggs and make sandwiches with them.....

UrsulaPandress · 19/12/2019 22:26

Dd always looks disappointed with the fridge.

She’s on her own in that big house now. Can’t believe how brave she is being.

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/12/2019 22:46

Does she leave a light on Ursula?

DD is vegan so most of our fridge is a disappointment to her! She isn't finished yet - Latin exam tomorrow afternoon!

UrsulaPandress · 19/12/2019 22:56

Probably. She is in the attic of big Victorian terrace. I can’t imagine going up to bed and turning the lights off behind me. I’m bad enough on my own at home and I’ve got the dog.

Knotaknitter · 19/12/2019 23:23

DS can never find things in the fridge. Before I go out I tell him what there is that could be eaten for lunch because otherwise he'd open the door and declare that there was nothing to eat despite there being three kinds of sandwich meat sitting on the shelf. I have started playing fridge Tetris so I have slightly more sympathy than usual.

Alexa turns some of the lights on/off for me. When I go upstairs my bedside light will be on and I turn the Christmas lights on before I come downstairs in the morning.

Sunndowne · 20/12/2019 22:46

Enjoy family Christmas everyone. My DD has been home a few days with a cough after skiing. My DS who is now at work is coming home for 2 weeks ! So looking forward to it. Wonder how long it will be just the 4 of us at this time. Christmas day is around 14 of us though. Enjoy

Sunndowne · 21/12/2019 08:13

Oh yes. They bring home loads of washing. And house becomes a mess! Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2019 21:01

dd seems very keen to not bring washing home. She even did it at uni the morning that dh picked her up.
She's barely been home since the hols started.

Did your dd enjoy the ski trip Sunndowne?
