Meant to say catndogslife how nice your DD is finding what she wants. Hopefully more education will open even more doors for her. The world is their oyster.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2019 21:37

I think reminding your dd that if the lecture is being given by someone who isn't in the union then it isn't breaking the strike Lobster.

Empty nest is hitting me too, so its reassuring that it's others too. I think last year it felt a bit like Id imagine boarding school would. But now it's hitting me that dd is gradually moving away and one day will have a totally independent life.

She seems so much more adult all of a sudden.

All dds lectures cancelled today. Sigh.

She came home on Saturday evening as she had dumped the boyfriend and was in need of some home comforts. Went back Sunday to work 3-11 and I then had to pay for an Uber back to her house as no bus at that time of night. So that’s two hours wages gone on getting home 🙄

Nettleskeins · 25/11/2019 23:28

Lobster I would tell her to attend her lecture if it is being given by someone who isn't striking!. She isn't crossing a line in the Miners' Strike. She is losing out on other teaching anyway, surely that is enough.

Not heard from ds1, except to send me his detailed address so his godmother can send him a chocolate advent calendar as usual! I wonder whether in maturity he will now eat them day by day rather than gobbling them all up on the first of Dec (as he has done in previous years) I realise I never send him anything by post, it is rather shaming.

However, I am sure we will get a call about the strikes.

Sunndowne · 26/11/2019 17:28

Grin remember those advent calendars!

Hope lobsters DD managed her situation.

FlowersFlowers kitten. It's tough isn't it.SadSmile

I met quite a few people whose children have moved back home after uni [hopeful] it seems to be quite common to have them living semi independently at home for several years after....and then in fact far from feeling empty nest you feel quite at peace with them moving out -as it is all a bit cramped

Sunndowne · 26/11/2019 19:49

Haha. My two seem quite determined to live away from home. Hope it is not a comment on my parenting!!!GrinGrin expensive choice though that may curtail their freedom long term.

UrsulaPandress · 26/11/2019 20:28

Bought dd a paper chase advent calendar

Looking forward to daily updates on stationery heaven.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2019 20:49

Id love a paper chase calendar!

I was giddy whe it arrived. It’s huge.

Knotaknitter · 27/11/2019 21:35

There is a video of one being opened, yes it is huge. I only stayed as far as day two but if you had 14 minutes to give to it you could see all 24 days right now.

UrsulaPandress · 27/11/2019 23:11

What sort of person do you think I am? I have self control. Dd is going to text me a photo every morning 😛

Definitelyrandom · 28/11/2019 23:53

Having thought I’d produced a grounded, practical, self sufficient young chap, DS2 stunned me today by asking “Do they sell stamps at the Post Office?”.

I don’t think it’s just me as DS1 found it amusing when I told him.

Knotaknitter · 29/11/2019 09:00

Last year I had "how do I find a post box?".

raspberryrippleicecream · 03/12/2019 08:35

I seem to have one of those too. She is coming back to vote next week as her postal ballot form never left her room! Luckily her exams are the week after

As it happens it is very useful as I was making arrangements for DS2 and an activity that DD bring there solves nicely.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2019 13:00

Oops Raspberry! Good for her though.

DS has one more exam this week and finishes on Friday. Looking forward to having him home on Monday with my delivery of Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and some (probably crushed! ) mince pies.

Hardwickwhite · 04/12/2019 15:01

DD has been home for a few days revising, and will head back at the weekend for exams. She won’t finish till the 19th - which is later than her sisters finish school! One of her friends is home already, but will have to do exams after Christmas. I think DD is fairly happy with that trade off!

Sunndowne · 04/12/2019 18:07

My DD has just handed in last essay of term!! Off dancing now!

She has a dissertation due in January though.

Will be nice to have them home- but perhaps that is boring for them now!!
Those Christmas goodies sound nice shanghaidiva. All the way from here to China?
Crown WinkXmas Wink happy build up to Christmas all.

Ginfordinner · 04/12/2019 22:54

DD won two huge lifesized elves last night while she was out, and messaged me about how on earth she was going to get them home on the train!
I suggested that she bought a seat for them Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2019 11:22

That's hilarious! Grin elf on a shelf on steroids.

DD is home. She managed to submit all the course work for module she is continuing this term so can now relax.
She has lost a lot of weight and isn't eating very much. I hope we can build up her appetite over the break.

hardwick they do finish so late. If dd had been doing exams, she wouldn't have been finished until the 20th.

marmiteloversunite · 06/12/2019 07:50

Picking my DD up on the 19th after watching her chamber choir Christmas concert.

We am going for it this Christmas as last year was so tough. We have pantomime and a national trust house visit booked. Then on the 28th we are going to Switzerland for some snow. Yay!!!!

Off to London today for afternoon tea and winter wonderland with family tomorrow. DD1 joining us too.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/12/2019 11:22

I'm so so pleased Marmite :)
I bet you will explode with pride on the 19th. Have a lovely couple of days. Enjoy London!

I hope your dds appetite improved with some rest and tlc NoHaudin. It's a worry when they come back like that.

dd is home tomorrow for a couple of days, then she's off on her travels. If I'm totally honest I'm a bit sad that she won't be around much before Christmas, but I am really really happy for her that she's spreading her wings.

Can't wait to give her a quick squeezy hug tomorrow and listen to her talk to dh at a million miles an hour about some obscure bit of work that she's enjoying. (He has enough knowledge to recognise the words and make some vague understanding noises at least Grin )
