DD got home late Friday. She missed her flight but DH managed to sort her another one fairly easily. It was just lovely lying in bed on Friday night knowing we had a house full again. Her last exam did not go well, so we’ve had a discussion about what happens if she fails. I doubt it will come to that though. I think it is all relative and for someone used to being at the top of her classes suddenly now being just ‘good’ is a shock. Fingers crossed I am right!

MIL arrives today for a week. God help me.

Sunndowne · 23/12/2019 18:10

God help you Hardwick! Have to smile at Christmas sometimes through gritted teeth!

My hubby thinks this Christmas will be tense in some families as the election results still divide people!

Hope your DD did okay too. Poor DD's friend has failed a coding module on her eng. Degree 3 times so far! Otherwise a great student.

UrsulaPandress · 28/12/2019 17:03

I'm back!

You hadn't missed me had you?

I was suspended

Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 17:03

Waves to Ursula

Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 17:04

What did you do?

UrsulaPandress · 28/12/2019 17:32

I couldn't possibly tell you. Cause then I'd have to kill you...

Knotaknitter · 28/12/2019 18:05

Was it the doghouse again? How is the PseudoSpaniel doing? Is he any more spaniely?

Not much happpening around here. We managed to start rewebbing the settee this afternoon without needing to bury anyone under the patio so that's something. He's a big strong lad so I can't work out how I ended up doing all the work other than I've done it before.

Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 18:36

Not much happening here either. DD has a horrendous cold virus and is too ill to do anything more than watch Netflix. Her plans for new year have unravelled, and I suspect one of her "friends" is seeing her ex BF.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/12/2019 22:21

Poor dd Gin I hope she feels better soon.

I did wonder where you were Ursula!

No not the doghouse - I'd forgotten about that suspension.

The usual terfy stuff. I thought I was being careful as well.

NotaSpaniel is doing ok thanks. He's lost loads of weight, still very barky in the evenings but seems settled. I wouldn't say he was happy as such but without a tail it is hard to tell. He particularly likes DD and gets very excited when she comes home. Pity she isn't here more often.

DD and her housemates are having a big party on New Year's Eve. I do hope it's a success for them as previous house parties they have organised or been to have been a bit of damp squib. Folk either don't turn up or leave early to go to a club.

Our planned dinner at a friend's house has been cancelled as she has the virus. Fortunately I had not yet started to make the desserts, but I have two punnets of raspberries to do something with.

DD and I are of to see Little Women at teatime. Excited.

starfleet · 01/01/2020 20:39

HNY to each and all.

DS went back to his university city for a party last night. I was asleep before the clock struck. The bastard fireworks woke me up and kept me awake until 5am.

I went to watch Little Women with my DSis a couple of days ago. I cry every single time when Beth dies. This was a particularly good adaptation and although Amy is still a bit of a cow she isn't as awful as she is usually depicted.

UrsulaPandress · 02/01/2020 14:37

We loved Little Women. I was so glad they made a big thing out of Beth's death.

The cinematography was superb. Especially the beach scenes.

Did your DS enjoy the party *Starfleet?

HesMyLobster · 03/01/2020 00:36

Hi and happy new year to you all!
Back from my self imposed social media break.
I'm loving having DD home. We've just had what I think was the first evening since she's been back where it was just the 4 of us with no extra relatives, friends, boyfriends etc.
I enjoy the busyness and social whirl of Christmas but was beginning to feel like I'd barely seen dd.
She went away for a few days over NYE to a uni friend's house party, and is off to visit another friend tomorrow for a couple of days .

Sorry to hear of dcs and others who have been hit by this awful virus - sounds like it's a nasty one, lots of friends have suffered.

Hardwickwhite · 07/01/2020 16:38

Happy New Year All!

MIL has returned home in one piece. We kept her very busy every day she was here, and so she has returned home with lots of nice activities to tell her cronies about. The place we took her for an afternoon tea was an absolute delight, and even had a (real) fake snow storm for a few minutes when they played Christmas music. We had our first ever visit to a professional panto, and I am sure it will be our last. It was well enough done, but I think the rest of us prefer a seasonal theatre or ballet trip. It was good to try something new though! The tour of the lights in town went down surprisingly well, and Carnaby Street in particular blew her mind a little I think. We had seen them in daylight, and been slightly underwhelmed, but in the evening, they were spectacular!

DD1 shocked us on NYE by going out with friends, and returning home rather the worse for wear! The first time ever. She was still throwing up when we were trying to leave for the train for a few days away, next morning. The poor thing felt so bad, she actually thought there was more than 'just' a hangover wrong with her. She got only a little sympathy, but a hand hold on the train, and a link to a list of the various ways too much alcohol can affect your body. She calmed down a little when she realised it was all to be expected! As a good friend said, we all remember the first (or only!) time we did it, and swear never to do it again.

She is heading back to uni on Friday and has realised she will have 20 contact hours again next term, after just 14 last. Her best friend from home has only 4 (she says - is that possible for history?).

Sunndowne · 07/01/2020 20:52

Is that really true? 4 hrs!!!!!

Haha. Funny when our perfect DDs succumb to mistaking how much alcohol to have. My DD did that once by accident too. My DS did it many times and not by accident!Wink

Sunndowne · 07/01/2020 20:53

Happy new year! My DC have gone and I'm back at work!!!!Xmas Sad

Hardwickwhite · 08/01/2020 15:55

Indeed Sunndowne I am taking the four hours comment with a large pinch of salt. The parents of the friend in question have told me she is mainly socialising, so four hours may well refer to how much she is turning up to, rather than what is on offer!

ShanghaiDiva · 09/01/2020 05:33

Happy new year!
Christmas holiday whizzed by and ds went back on 3rd January to a rather chilly house as the last to leave switched off the heating, despite agreeing to keep on 15 degrees over the winter break. After travelling for 20 hours he was pretty pissed off.
I am going back to the UK for a couple of weeks in Feb (need to find somewhere to live) and looking forward to seeing ds.

Ginfordinner · 09/01/2020 06:25

I took DD back on Monday where she was welcomed back with open arms by her friends. Apart from exams I think she was pleased to be going back. Boxing day onwards was rather lacklustre on the socialising front so she was happy to see her friends.

catndogslife · 15/01/2020 16:44

Hope it's not too late to wish people Happy New Year!
My big news is that dds UCAS form has been submitted! She has applied for an HND course and has enough points from her A levels taken in 2018.
Any tips about the next stages would be helpful.

Sunndowne · 15/01/2020 22:00

Wait for the offers! Then hopefully, she'll be able to narrow down her choice. Exciting times. Very best of luck. Smile and happy new year too!

Anyone else got builders or works in house. My house has been thick with dust for 2 weeks as I'm having new kitchen. No DC at home though adding to mess. Bought paint today. Feels real! Diverting thread but life happens when kids go doesn't it?

marmiteloversunite · 23/01/2020 07:52

Happy New Year all!

Just wondering if anyone remembers when we need to apply for third year loans? Having a sudden panic that I should have done it by now?
Thanks.

raspberryrippleicecream · 23/01/2020 18:44

Not yet Marmite I think it might open March time, but its usually May by the time I get round to it (5th time for me this year).

Bronzegate · 23/01/2020 19:49

Sorry, you had dropped off my TIO.

I think student finance opens in late February, although that might just be for initial applicants rather than returners.

catndogslife that's exciting; hopefully she will hear soon.
