Morning!
Ds is back on Sunday - yay!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 07:30

Brilliant Shanghai! And well done for being the first to post! I bet you've missed him.

We have, 17 weeks is a long time!

Knotaknitter · 29/08/2019 07:54

The new year beckons, I know it does because the first installment of accommodation fees went out this week. This time last year all the flatmates were chatting in the accommodation app and sorting out the kitchen between them. This year - silence.

UrsulaPandress · 29/08/2019 13:10

Signing in.

HesMyLobster · 29/08/2019 13:52

Thankyou @OhYouBadBadKitten for keeping us going and keeping us together.
Love the thread title - there's a lot of angst this week amongst my friends with high school aged dc about school shoes! I don't miss it Grin
DD2 started back (in yr13 ) yesterday and apparently there were over 100 year 10 and 11 students in isolation for the day due to incorrect footwear Shock

Sunndowne · 29/08/2019 16:40

Haha. Shoes! My DD doesn't think her shoes are quite smart enough for work experience this week! She'll soon be a student again so she's decided to make do and polish them.

marmiteloversunite · 29/08/2019 17:14

Bad kitten have you been reading the Hotter school shoes thread?!Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/08/2019 20:16

I haven't seen that thread Grin Ill have to have a nosy.
Flipping school shoes!

I cracked DD's school shoes very expensively with DM shoes in Y11! However DS2 needs to decide what to wear on his feet in Year 12. Plus he actually needs new decent black shoes for an activity he does, for which school shoes used to do.

Can't believe English schools are back already. I go back next Tuesday and DS2 Wednesday.

DS2 has a coaching activity in DD's university city this weekend, so we are combining taking him with taking DD's stuff.

Hardwickwhite · 30/08/2019 08:58

Hello lovely people. Checking in after a challenging and eventful summer!

Knotaknitter · 30/08/2019 10:45

DS still needs concert dress - white shirt, black shirt, black shoes, black trousers, black jacket. His student accommodation does not come with the magic wardrobe in which concert dress appears washed, ironed and hung up. Those who leave their formal trousers in a crumpled heap are forever condemned to iron them.

TapasForTwo · 30/08/2019 12:48

DD's BF of nearly 4 years has just dumped her. Quite frankly it is the best thing, although she doesn't see it that way. He has turned from being a nice young man into an unspeakably arrogant, selfish a**hole. I'm not convinced that he hasn't cheated on her either.

It is awful when you can what is coming but can't say anything. One of her friends cancelled her plans for this afternoon and came straight away, and another is catching the first train home from the other side of the country to see her. I think she cried even harder when she got this message.

At least she will have a clean break for going to university.

HesMyLobster · 30/08/2019 13:01

Oh @TapasForTwo your poor DD Sad
I know from what you've said about him over the past year or so it's almost definitely for the best (and she probably should have done the dumping!) but it still must be very difficult for her - 4 years is such a long time at their age.
Like you said though, timing wise at least it's before she starts uni. Would have been horrid if he'd waited til she was there all alone.
Sounds like she's got some lovely friends to help her get over him and get ready for her brand new chapter!

TapasForTwo · 30/08/2019 13:05

Yes, I wish she had done the dumping. It has been pretty clear that the relationship was becoming rather one sided for ages, but DD has had her head in the sand. She noticed that my attitude towards him was getting cooler, because I could see what he was doing.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

UrsulaPandress · 30/08/2019 14:25

It’s so hard watching them in emotional pain. At least she can make a fresh start at University.

HesMyLobster · 30/08/2019 19:20

Sorry @Hardwickwhite I missed your post. Challenging summer doesn't sound too good - hope you're all ok?

marmiteloversunite · 30/08/2019 21:46

Oh Tapas. Poor girl. At least she is at home with you and has friends. Would have been worse if he had done it when she was away. Has she got a couple of weeks to get herself together before freshers?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/08/2019 22:51

Your poor lass Tapas It will be hard for her, but it is good timing to have you around. What lovely friends she has.

Sorry to hear about your DD's relationship sadness Tapas

DS and his girlfriend maintained a long distance relationship during his first year and she was planning to move to his university city and move in with him. She has (quite validly) decided she is not ready for this, so he'll have a studio flat to himself.

Bronzegate · 30/08/2019 23:01

They've decided it would be too much to attempt another two years long distance, so are essentially no longer together, although still seem to be friends. I don't like seeing him sad, but It's better that they realise now, rather than move in together when they're not 100% sure.

Bronzegate · 30/08/2019 23:02

HardwickWhite
Sorry to hear that your summer was hard work. Hope everything is OK.

Bronzegate · 30/08/2019 23:06

So DS will be living properly by himself this year. This has its pros (peace and quiet, any mess can only have been made by him) and cons (potential for loneliness).

Ginfordinner · 31/08/2019 00:11

I have had to name change (I like eating plates of Spanish food Grin)

Thank you your kind words everyone. I must admit I was overwhelmed by the kindness of her friends and spent £££on some Dominos pizzas to be delivered for the three of them.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/08/2019 03:32

Gin (great name!) - what great friends your daughter has and although your dd is not feeling great at the moment am sure this is good timing and she will have a fresh start when she starts at university next month.
