Thankyou for all the birthday wishes Haudin her eye is all healed
That’s lovely to hear marmite hope you have a speedy recovery.
OYBK
This one is for you.....

So dd sorted her clothes yesterday. Sorted makeup oit. Come round to packing her suitcase half of it won’t fit. Quilt etc have been sent to her uni from Argos so nothing to worry about there. It is now a game of Tetris trying to fit necessities and makeup (there are piles of palettes) into a suitcase because apparently she might want to do a brown smokey eye or a purple eye look therefore she must have all of her makeup in the case.
We have compromised and some will go in the boxes to be shipped Monday arriving Wednesday.
She’s looked at the prices of a black cab and it’s £35 Shock for a 20 minute journey

UrsulaPandress · 21/09/2018 21:17

Uber should be cheaper maybe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/09/2018 22:36

Is über really easy? It's going to be featuring in our journey too.

I had a huge issue with Uber the only time I tried to use them but don't take my experience as representative

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/09/2018 22:55

might do a cab instead then.

We head up tomorrow to Nottingham, just having an evening of tears!!

When Ds was little before we moved South we lived with my Mum and Dad for 4 months as our house had sold and our house in the south wasn't ready. DS asked my dad if we had the same moon where we were headed. They made a pact to look at the moon as then they would both be looking at the same thing at the same time. I used to have to phone with DS standing in the back garden asking my dad if he was looking at the koan!

Have just reminded him of this! Might have to get a moon tattoo!! 🌓

watfordmummy · 21/09/2018 23:08

DS going to catered and I didn't think we had much to take... until we (I) brought it all together tonight!!

FantasyAndHope · 21/09/2018 23:15

Uber seems 50/50 some people in London have had really bad experiences which puts me off booking one for her

UrsulaPandress · 21/09/2018 23:24

A black cab was the same price as an Uber. And you can pay by card in a lot of them now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2018 00:45

I'm doing black cab then. I can quiz them about The Knowledge. I might revise in advance.

Any other dropper offers who can’t sleep?

Been tossing and turning for a while.

Feels like Christmas morning with a bit of sadness mixed in. Am so excited for him though.

We arrived at the grandparents house last night and are now less than 2 hours from his Uni.

Just wanted to wish all of this weekends dropped offers a happy and stress free day.

Downeyhouse · 22/09/2018 04:35

Marmite so glad to hear the pain is not as bad as feared.

GnomeDePlume · 22/09/2018 07:16

Best wishes to all the droppers off today.

Just to pre-warn, both my DDs once unpacked into their rooms were keen for DH and I to get out of their way so that they could get on with sorting their stuff out without us getting under their feet.

More positive sounding messages from DD2 last night. She had been to a course related event and felt a lot more positive. Also met the other person on her course which was probably a relief for both of them. With only two of them tutorials are going to be cosy.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/09/2018 07:28

Dropping off ds today. Hope things go smoothly as to date have been unimpressed with admin at Warwick.
He has 2 suitcases, an IKEA bag and two medium boxes and will then shop for food when we get to the campus. They have lidl and tescos. There are some events for parents today so plan to have a mooch about when ds is unpacking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2018 07:34

Good luck everyone today. I hope it goes really well.

Good luck to everyone today. Thinking of you all.

On the M1. Have forgotten the MASHER Grin

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/09/2018 08:11

We're leaving shortly. Will pick up DS1's girlfriend on the way. I'm hoping that having her with us will mean that he's less keen to get rid of us immediately after drop-off.

captainoftheshipwreck · 22/09/2018 08:19

We are playing spot the uni car. Apparently it is easy to spot who is going to uni as no one would want to go on holiday with their parents with all that stuff Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 22/09/2018 08:23

Good luck to everyone today.

Hope you continue to improve marmite

DD had a better day yesterday. We did a campus tour of Newcastle university. It had been DD's favourite last year when we looked at medical schools, and she loves Newcastle as a city anyway. We couldn't make the open day last week, but we struck gold yesterday because the admissions tutor was free and was happy to give us as much time as we needed and answered far more questions than he would have been able to if we had been at the open day. The tutor told DD that because she has excellent A level results that they wouldn't even look at her personal statement, and would give her an offer straight away.

While we were on the tour DD got a phone call from out local hospital where she had applied for volunteering inviting her for an interview.

Unless Manchester wows her next weekend Newcastle will be her favourite.

She has also arranged to visit a friend next weekend after the Manchester visit, and her boyfriend the week after. Oh, and she is going to a job fair on Wednesday. So she has lots to look forward to.

Thank you for your suppoort and ideas mumsnetters.

flatmouse · 22/09/2018 08:28

Good luck to all dropping this weekend.
Whilst overjoyed that DS seems to be taking it all in his stride, I'm a bit gutted I'm not hearing about stuff. He will occasionally respond to WhatsApp although trying not to bug him. Will see if he'll FaceTime on Sunday!
@chocolateworshipper not heard much from DD about prom yet, but she did mention (during university drop off) that they were planning horse and Cinderella carriage. We all fell about laughing and DS told her she'd be starring in next series of "big fat gypsy wedding".... not the reaction she was hoping for and i fear I may be sacked from prom dress shopping now! No idea re limo price. DS went to his on a "party bus" about 20 of them - think they paid £15-£20 each, but it might have been subsidised by one generous set of parents.

flatmouse · 22/09/2018 08:29

How are the non-university crowd getting on?

flatmouse · 22/09/2018 08:30

@LoniceraJaponica that sounds so positive. Well done to your DD.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/09/2018 08:32

That sounds so much better Lonicera, I know it's been tough, but it sounds like it's going to be much better hopefully.
