Wow Lonerica that drinking culture sounds toxic . Is it a uni with a party reputation? If your DD can spend her year out becoming more confident and independent and able to resist the pressure to drink like that, it can only be a good thing.

Third I'm sorry to hear your DS is struggling :( We had a sock drama a couple of weeks ago, I ended up sending DD a big packet of socks via amazon prime.

Kitten I don't post much but I do read. It sounds like tough going for you at the moment. I feel the same way tbh - caring role, have been ill myself recently, very demanding job, have no one else to rely on. I also miss DD a lot.*

Knitting* hope your DS is on the road to recovery now. Sickness bugs are horrible when you don't have anyone to look after you :(

My DD had a big wobble a couple of weeks ago (hangover from major MH issues throughout Y13) but I saw her last week and she was doing better. This week she seems to have really got into her stride and she is making more friends. She does socialise but there doesn't seem to be much of a drinking culture. The course is so demanding that they don't really have time - she has 31 contact hours and probably another 20 hours a week of personal work. But she is enjoying it and the quality of the teaching sounds amazing.

LoniceraJaponica · 18/10/2018 20:47

Is your DD doing a science subject Mistigirl?
DD wanst to do biomed, and that has loads of contact hours. DD won't have the time or the energy to do much partying.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2018 20:52

I'm sorry that you are having a tough time too Mistigri. Life can be a right bugger at times.

it's wearying being a worrier Voilets. Poor all of us!

I'm going to make a point to start noticing the nice bits in life again each day, even if they seem to be a bit pale at the moment. Today's nice thing was I saw deer in a field in the mist. It was beautiful.

Anyone else sing this cracker of a song during september/october school assemblies?

Autumn days when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell.
Jetplanes meeting in the air to be refuelled.
All these thing I love so well

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget.
To say a great big
Thank You
I mustn't forget

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And the winters moon with frosted rings.
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget.
To say a great big
Thank You
I mustn't forget

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they're worn out and they're battered
And the taste of apple pie.

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain's been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that's been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.

Thank you for the kind words in support of DS1.

I'm going to spin myself a cocoon now and will emerge anew on the other thread.

PandaG · 18/10/2018 21:37

Yes, we used to sing that Kitten. I think thankfulness is really important, helps you put things into perspective.

For all those posters or dc with fragile mental health, I'm standing alongside you - I came off antidepressants in April. Mostly doing ok, but have to keep a check on myself. Hope the self care you are putting in place makes a difference. X

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2018 21:41

The thankfulness is important for sure.

I remember spending a fair bit of time trying to spot refueling planes. Grin

Well done for coming off them in April. Do take good care as we go into darker nights.

Don't forget vitamin d3 if anyone is prone to winter blues. It can help.

"For all those posters or dc with fragile mental health, I'm standing alongside you"

So am I. DD has reduced her anti-anxiety meds, but is still on them for now.

Knittinganewme · 18/10/2018 21:49

Oooh Vitamin D. I stopped taking it over the summer but I should start again.

Knittinganewme · 18/10/2018 21:57

Is it time for me to start talking about George the worm again? He's a good thread filler. I am lucky that he is still with me because he and all his clones nearly drowned last week. We had a lot of rain and it would appear that the wormery takes on a lot of rainwater, I drained an unreasonable amount of liquid from the tap on the base. The wormery is now sporting a blue plastic bag with a brick on the top in an attempt to stop it happening again.

I am going to bring them into the garage for the winter so that they keep on munching.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2018 21:58

Poor George!!!

OP posts:
Knittinganewme · 18/10/2018 22:06

They usually live in the bottom tray and I'm sure that was flooded, the smarter Georges will have moved to higher ground in the top tray. The instructions do suggest to leave the tap open in wet weather so it can drain freely but I didn't think that it had rained that much. It obviously had.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 18/10/2018 22:44

This was more the sort of thing I associate this time of year with!

Cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green, Strawberries sweeter than any I’ve seen. Beetroot purple and onions white,
All grow steadily day and night.
The apples are ripe, and the plums are red,
The broadbeans are sleeping in their blankety bed.

I wonder what George the worm thinks of that?

marmiteloversunite · 18/10/2018 23:13

Oh I love "Cauliflowers fluffy".

Seems like it has been a tough week for quite a lot of you guys. Let's hope the weekend brings better things for us all!

PandaG · 18/10/2018 23:26

I don't know cauliflowers fluffy, but I do see it mentioned quite often at this time of year.

On another note entirely, I went to hear Val McDermid interviewed tonight, as part of our local literary festival. She was brilliant!

UrsulaPandress · 19/10/2018 00:27

I posted that song on the Royal style and beauty thread.

Knittinganewme · 19/10/2018 08:41

George the worm would eat all of that, although he's not supposed to have too much onion because it's acidic. He gets eggshell in his diet though along with the coffee grounds, teabags and cardboard so a bit of onion now and again won't hurt. Just at the moment he is an ideal pet because I can coo over him and then ignore him for a couple of days.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2018 08:43

I'm giggling over the idea of smart George's. Presumably hoping to evolve them into book worms?

OP posts:
HardwickWhite · 19/10/2018 08:46

We keep an old bit of carpet held down by a brick on the wormery in winter. It helps against frosts later as well as excess rain now. I’m sure it was recommended by the place we got it from.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/10/2018 08:54

let's finish this thread.
