Marmite all the very best. WIll be thinking of you.

Nettle thank you for asking about DD. She has cheered up a lot this week. Necessary preparations today were belly button piercing and the purchase of a teapot. Finding her bedroom floor and sorting out her clothes seem to be less of a priority. She tried to enrol this evening, one of her choices appears to be full which is a bit disappointing.

A colleague at work's DC is upset to have missed out on his first choice, which turns out to be DD's clearing option. Thankfully different courses.

Chocolate congratulations to your DD. What a boost going into Y11. I will take a deep breath and post on the GCSE thread next week when DD is away

raspberryrippleicecream · 05/09/2018 23:10

Sorry choices and courses got confusing there. DD's were related to her options within her uni course. Colleague's DC unfortunately didn't get into that uni.

FantasyAndHope · 05/09/2018 23:30

Big hugs marmite wishing you a speedy recovery
We have done the whole list making for uni
Train ticket collected
Feels real now! Plus she got a free freshers band simply for being a September baby! So she was pleased with that as it’s saved her £35

Bekabeech · 05/09/2018 23:41

Checking in!
Been on holiday.

MH still a problem, but we know of a part time job which might help with giving time to make decisions.

Little DD got her result from the one GCSE she did this year and got a MN approved grade, but even as a "high achiever" I'm not sure we want to join that group.

I wish UK unis gave a true "cost of University" like US ones do - adding in typical accommodation and book costs etc. It does give a much better reflection of costs.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/09/2018 00:24

Marmite - hope all goes well with your operation.

Ds has his accommodation for Warwick and got his first choice so he is pleased and I am relieved that some progress has been made.

Bekabeech
Dh has created massive spreadsheet with all university costs - from insurance to books so we will have some idea of the true cost. Agree would be useful to have some information upfront.

marmiteloversunite · 06/09/2018 00:32

Bekabeech some of us have joined the GCSE thread so come on over!

Really pleased that Warwick have given your DS his first choice accommodation Shanghai. Less to worry about!

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/09/2018 00:52

@Bekabeech have you seen this ?

GnomeDePlume · 06/09/2018 06:16

Best wishes to you Marmite Flowers

Well done Chocolate's DD

Preparations here are nearly done. I still feel like I am pushing the rock up hill. Undoubtedly DD2 will step in just as we reach the summit.

Slightly worryingly it looks like Sheffield wont be offering DD2's course after this year. It was a very small course (Chemical Physics) so probably not the demand for it. Just hoping it wont cause problems.

DD1 is still prevaricating about next steps, DS is still prevaricating about getting fast enough to apply to the RAF.

Plus ca change as they say in Wales.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/09/2018 09:09

Well done to your younger dd Beka :)

Gnome are they going to offer something similar instead in the future? Maybe they are just changing the direction of it a bit?

Is anyone else's pile of stuff getting a bit ridiculous? It all looked under control, but I seem to be preparing dd for the apocalypse. Though I'm not sure what sort of apocalypse requires her to have the requirement of a gift pack of 8 different spice blend. Confused

OP posts:
flatmouse · 06/09/2018 09:36

Pile of stuff? Er not got that far 😁 Bedding sorted and in a bag, but apart from that nothing piled, with he would start to do that, but as he got in at 4:45am today, I won't be holding my breath for progress today!
Those who went Santander for bank account, is the rail card physical or can you have online (like wi5 proper rail card)?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/09/2018 10:11

It will be a physical railcard if it's like the one dd already has.

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 06/09/2018 10:19

OhYouBadBadKitten no, the combination of chemistry with physics seems to have gone. Perhaps there was some sort of border dispute between the chemistry & physics departments and now they arent talking, just leaving PA postit notes and communicating via the students. DD2 is unworried.

Yes to the wobbly heaps of 'stuff'. We look like a displaced persons centre. Which is possibly close to the truth!

Knittinganewme · 06/09/2018 10:52

DS is fully equipped except for a second duvet cover, a waste bin and most of the kitchen. The kitchen is being organised between them, it seems that they will have the most basics of basics and that's all. Actual consumables - they're not on the master list. I have now officially given up and will give him some cash and point him at the closest Tesco Express.

I have a staging post in the garage.

Banquosghost · 06/09/2018 11:30

Lol @ staging post, our garage is a mish mash of disorganised ikea bags and mismatched bed linen.

FantasyAndHope · 06/09/2018 12:06

Welcome done to chocolates dd
And to beka
flat dd was wondering about the rail card
Dd has had a mad panic about how she will take notes in lectures compared to school

HardwickWhite · 06/09/2018 12:15

When DD got her railcard there was an option in the form filling out bit to say if you wanted it digitally on your phone, or an actual card.

DD has finally realised she has today and tomorrow to get sorted. She is out of her pit, and doing stuff. She has also just emptied the dishwasher without being asked, and is smiling, which has left DH and I a bit stunned...

Nettleskeins · 06/09/2018 12:46

raspberry ouch!
I decluttered a good many teapots last year, I hope some lovely student snapped them up in a charity shop...there was one with a Welsh Dragon on it just big enough for two people..surplus to requirements though, as ds doesn't drink tea and we have two Brown Betties, an irridescent Christmas teapot and a Royal Denmark blue and white one. Clearly university was the trouble started on the teapot collecting front!

Shanghai exciting to have first choice!

Marmite ds1 is starting to rev up on the music side again, and is trying to write a film script to compose a soundtrack too otherwise seemingly unengaged with anything has your dd tackled any reading lists or suchlike? I'm a bit worried about whether there is any preparation required, bookwise, music is so hands-on and much less reading I suppose. Hope you have some more beautiful Sept walks before the operation, and there will be plenty after too, I'm sure. B is such a beautiful city to visit as well.

I'm still trying not to panic about the house. It is really awful. Ds's stuff is stowed in a large suitcase so I cannot really blame that. It is just the grime showing up in bright sunlight, scuzzy carpets, paintwork, children who are now so busy doing other things or refusing to do other things that all possibility of helping with "chores" for funds has departed.

Dd had just an hour of school today, she has come back and gone back to bed!!!

She is on the warpath about the toothpaste again, just come in to harangue me..

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/09/2018 16:05

marmite hope everything goes well with op & recovery. DS1 is surprisingly calm at the moment, and is pleasant and polite, so long as I don't ask him to do more than one admin / uni prep task a day.

flatmouse · 06/09/2018 17:56

My question re railcard is moot point at moment (although thanks for the replies). Nearly 2 weeks after upgrading his Santander account to a student one, he's still not received the code.
20 mins on phone to bank, with guy who really wasn't getting what DS told him, and DS now has a request number ... may take 7-10 days for request to be resolved!
Good job he doesn't need railcard to buy tickets to get to university!

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/09/2018 18:05

flatmouse
DS1's railcard code was not obvious at all. He had to log in to online banking then check under messages. He would not have known where to find it if I hadn't looked with him.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/09/2018 18:24

dd still hasn't managed to get a replacement password for her forgotten one from santander. So she can't check her messages. They aren't the easiest bank.

OP posts:
flatmouse · 06/09/2018 18:29

It's frustrating! He's had no messages since May. Wondering if issue is that it was an upgrade to existing account and he already had online banking..

Nettleskeins · 06/09/2018 18:55

ds can get a return ticket for £10 from uni to our local cinema. Coach. I don't somehow think he will use the train so much, although that is convenient too. His railcard is still valid till end of Sept, he has actually used it loads last year, going to Cardiff, Glasgow, and Hull, Dundee. But ended up round the corner, so to speak.

Nettleskeins · 06/09/2018 19:09

I've ordered party dress for myself and a bright yellow Hemnes wardrobe for the clutter. I think there now needs to be a wardrobe downstairs as well as in bedrooms, just to throw things into, in absence of a garage. The storage bunker I rented recently isn't solving the shoes and the coats and post. My sister is giving a big anniversary party and she mentioned her fear that I will turn up in long dowdy cotton skirt from Boden as per usual. So I have ordered a bright blue metallic gown with sweeping folds. It is like the horrors of the Prom all over again, except for 50 year olds Hmm

FantasyAndHope · 06/09/2018 19:10

People who’s kids are joining with Santander
Dd got notified her account was open yesterday
She had one email to say she would get a password letter and then another letter with with a security password on. Haven’t received one today
How long does it take to come? As dd is hoping to have her rail card before the 22nd otherwise I’ll have to purchase one for the year which is a waste of money
