new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

dd has both her AS exams today and has set off following a boiled egg breakfast. The exams officially clashed on the timetable (both scheduled for this morning) and so she is being kept in isolation over lunch. The AS exams are Creative Writing AQA and Health & social Care. So there are non Maths exams as well!
Mobile phone has been left at home (there are no lockers at college) so won't hear anything until she arrives home.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 17/05/2017 09:24

Dd has C1 and HIstory (Russia) today.
As usual she is calmer once it is actually happening and she just has to get on with it. She took Harry Potter to read beforehand as a calming influence.

Kitten the traffic for Bath open days is appalling. As you know there is only one route out of the campus so both cars and buses become gridlocked. If you can walk that hill I would. I have mobility problems myself so it wasn't an option and from memory it took well over an hour for the bus to get from the campus to the railway station.

Breakfast here is porridge in the winter and overnight oats and yoghurt in the summer with sausage sandwiches on Sunday. DS has forgotten that GCSE exam days started with a sausage sandwich and I wasn't going to remind him. His friend started her GCSEs yesterday so I am being updated with progress on that front, it's a good reminder for him that his exam load is not all that bad.

TheDrsDocMartens · 17/05/2017 11:43

Dd1 isn't actually looking at maths , she's a similar problem though as she wants languages. Not sure which combo or whether to do linguistics /translation/ straight languages etc.

Cardiff Uni is pretty central , appears to be next to the castle so fairly easy to get to. Not sure she'll like the city aspect though. But it's something to compare with her previous campus experiences. She's been to Warwick, Lancaster and UCLAN before for other things.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2017 14:04

The Edexcel C1 exam looks fairly straightforward if anybody is doing that exam board. Dd doesn't update me on exams until I get home from work, so I don't know how she's found hers, she did AQA which I've seen online people saying it's hard. We'll see.

raspberry that uni choice sounds awkward. Does she have any ideas about how she's going to do that if she hasn't done one of the requisite ALevels? Or are you avoiding that question til she's finished her exams?

eatingtomuch · 17/05/2017 14:08

My DS did OCR C1 he found it hard.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/05/2017 14:28

dd said that c1 went well but that people will have found it harder than usual.

It's so hard for them to make these decisions Doc. But it sounds like your dd wants to do some interesting stuff!

Sorry, should read all the replies before hitting 'send'. NoHaudin, that's a really useful thing to know. I only have very hazy memories. Thanks :)

dd is back and is enjoying post exam cake! There were 8 students in the exam clash room as some Maths students also had a timetable clash too! She said being in one room all day wasn't much fun, the exception being spending all day in your bedroom of course!
I used to work in Bath and traffic is a problem most days kitten. Would recommend public transport i.e. bus or train as parking is a nightmare.

raspberryrippleicecream · 17/05/2017 15:49

I think DD is OCR Maths. No word from her about either exam.

MrsAD she does have a solution, but I'm waiting until after exams to discuss it rationally.

offblackeggshell · 17/05/2017 16:01

DD said maths was hard, but she's happy enough with it. She did make me laugh though with a "it will definitely trend on Twitter".

Icouldbeknitting · 17/05/2017 16:02

I should start a list of the things that I'm putting off discussing until after the exams. I need him to be focused on the thing that really matters and when that's out of the way he can sort out the other stuff. Roll on the holiday.

TheDrsDocMartens · 17/05/2017 16:46

AQA maths hard was the verdict from dd1/friends. Most got to the end in the time but weren't happy with their answers

DS said C1 was harder than expected especially as it is usually classed as the "easier" paper. He doesn't think he has done particularly well and thinks he may struggle now with C2.

He has also said that if his grade is really rubbish he may re-sit next year....I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

He's off on a driving lesson now which will cheer him up.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 17/05/2017 18:37

Dd said that C1 (Edexcel) was ok. History was a marathon. It was a 21/2 hour exam but with dd's extra time and rest breaks she was there for nearly 4hrs. She is reasonably happy with it but is hoping to do better with China next week.

Littledrummergirl · 17/05/2017 19:48

Ds1 said he found the first part of c1 ok, the second was harder. He has been in the student room and still seems happy so I think that's a good thing.
He was in a room by himself as still ill. Sad Nice to see his mates though and he had the chance to see some of his teachers to say hello. Grin

LineysRun · 17/05/2017 20:13

DS retook C1 (edexcel) today to try to improve his mark. (He's doing A levels.) He seems a lot happier than last year, when he found the jump from GCSE quite difficult.

Hopefully 35 quid well spent.
